Character Info[]

Hailing from the city of Zaphias, Yuri is an orphan who reluctantly joined the Imperial Knights alongside his best friend Flynn Scifo before an altercation caused him to leave the knights. Still, Yuri vowed to fight for the people and to do it in his own way. This led Yuri to chase a thief across the world gaining new allies along the way as well as getting themselves mixed up into all kinds of trouble. Eventually Yuri and his new companions would found the guild Brave Vesperia named after the brightest star in the sky.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

With the sheath of his sword held in his hand, Yuri will walk onto the stage and throw his sheathe back as he grabs his sword by the hilt in a smooth motion and readies himself for the fight.

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby gets Yuri’s long flowing hair.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Yuri will hold his blade over his shoulder and tap it against himself a couple times saying, “I’m getting bored here.”

Down Taunt: Yuri will plant his sword into the ground, lean forwards against it, and say “Don’t just stand there.”

Side Taunt: Yuri will pull his sword back and spin it in one hand a couple times before pointing it forward and saying “C’mon, bring it!”.

Victory Poses[]

  1. Yuri will drop his sword and perform a somersault. As his sword falls he will end up kicking it back up into the air with his feet and catch it back in his hand when completing the somersault. As he does this he will say “You picked the wrong person to fight with.”
  2. Yuri will be seen sitting on a stump looking down at the camera which has been positioned on the ground and say, “I beat you into next week,” and laugh at the camera as a follow up.
  3. Yuri will sit on the ground with his dog pal Repede curled up next to him as Yuri gives his friend a good scratch behind the ears.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Azure Edge: Yuri will swing his sword upwards damaging anyone who is right there in front of him. As he does this he will create a blue energy projectile that flies across the screen with great speed. This projectile can travel all across Final Destination before hitting an opponent and knocking them into the sky. Yuri is capable of using this attack twice in succession, essentially turning it into Azure Storm, and sending a second projectile flying forwards the same as the first. However, Yuri cannot have more than two Azure Edge projectiles out on the stage at a time.

Side Special[]

Ghost Wolf: Yuri will crouch down a bit with his side facing forwards before dashing with extreme speed a medium distance. Any enemies or objects that are in Yuri’s path will be passed through taking a small amount of damage to each. However Yuri is not capable of passing through walls. Caution is also advised as if Yuri uses this move while in the air, he can fly right past the edges of a platform. Thankfully if Yuri was on the ground when using this move he’ll stop before flying off. After Yuri has dashed forward he’ll quickly spin around and perform a sword slash damaging anything immediately behind him. While the initial dash is a weaker attack, it does cause opponents to flinch which makes them sitting ducks for Yuri’s follow up attack if they’re in range. Alternatively, Yuri players can quickly flick the control stick back the opposite direction before he does his added slash. This will cause Yuri to dash back in the opposite direction. Following this second dash Yuri will do his slash. Yuri cannot follow up with a third dash unfortunately and must wait until after the sword slash at the end before he can use this move again.

Up Special[]

Severing Fang: Yuri will jump up into the air, raising a knee as he does which if it connects with an opponent it will damage them a minor amount and bring them up into the air with him. As Yuri is approaching the height of his jump he will spin around himself twice in the air, slashing the opponent each time. As the second slash hits the opponent the force of it will knock them away diagonally downwards away from Yuri and potentially past the blast zones.

Down Special[]

Destruction Field: Yuri will leap and spin around himself in the air as he moves forward before slamming his blade into the ground. When the sword makes impact with the ground it will create a small AoE fire attack in the surrounding area which can damage multiple opponents. If an opponent is on the ground and directly in the way of the sword when it slams into the ground, they will be grounded into the stage and stuck for a short time. If Yuri uses this move in the air and hits an aerial opponent on his way down, then they will be meteor spiked.

Final Smash[]

Savage Wolf Fury: Yuri will channel the power of his Mystic Arte and shout, “This ends now!” before taking his sword and running forwards in a straight line. If his attack connects with an opponent he will drag them into a cinematic where he will unleash a strong series of strikes with his sword from all sides of the opponent hitting them in different ways. In total Yuri will hit the opponent 19 times with the final strike having him dash right through them with his blade ending with Yuri up close in front of the camera as an explosion occurs in the background knocking the opponent to the skies and out of the cinematic. As this Final Smash plays out Yuri will shout, “O brilliant blade of coldest steel, rend the infinite darkness and crush my enemies to nothing! Savage Wolf Fury!”

Extra Skill[]

Over Limit: As Yuri Lowell fights he’s also passively filling up a meter which can be seen next to his character portrait. This meter can only be filled up either by Yuri damaging opponents with his attacks or by performing Taunts. This meter can be charged up to three levels and is consumed by pressive the Extra Skill input. Once consumed the entirety of the meter that Yuri has built up will be consumed even if he was in between levels. When Over Limit has been activated Yuri’s four special moves will all be changed out for a different set. The time limit for this is determined by how many levels of Over Limit Yuri was able to fill with 10 seconds of Over Limit per level up to a maximum of 30 seconds. Yuri’s new moves and which Special button they are mapped to are as follows:

  • Standard: Shining Eagle: Yuri will turn and spin around himself on the ground and swing his blade along the ground before swinging it up into the air as he returns back to facing the direction he started at. If this move hits an opponent then they’ll be knocked a fair distance up and away from Yuri. This move is also rather effective at knocking away thrown items such as rolling Barrels or Gooey Bombs. Instead of outright destroying them it deflects them away.
  • Side: Dragon Swarm: Yuri Lowell will perform a cartwheel-like maneuver twisting his body around as he moves forward performing a seven hit combo alternating with a sword slash and a kick. Opponents who are hit by this attack find themselves caught in it and are carried with Yuri as he moves forward taking the full brunt of the rest of his attacks. Only one opponent can technically be caught in the attack though and any others who are hit by it just get knocked forward a bit where they have a chance to escape. The seventh slash has a bit more oomph to it as Yuri swings sword one final time in an overhead arc and knocks the opponents away.
  • Up: Pyre Havoc: Yuri will leap up into the air with an uppercut punch as a small blast of flame appears to propel him upwards. Yuri will then spin around and follow up the punch with a flaming kick that knocks the opponent further up into the air as he continues to spin about and finishes off the attack with a flaming slash of his sword that knocks the opponent diagonally down away from him. The exact angle of trajectory is more horizontal than vertical however so don’t expect it to just send opponents flying straight down to their deaths.
  • Down: Guardian Field: Twin rings of holy energy will harmlessly fly off of Yuri in an x-pattern as he stabs his sword into the ground and creates a blue circle of magical energy that displays the arte’s magical formula on the ground. When this appears a faint blue field of energy can be seen rising slightly above the ground. So long as Yuri holds this move then he will be healed a small amount of damage every second. If Yuri is taking place in a team battle and an ally is within the field then they will be healed a greater amount of damage each second. If an opponent stands in this field then they will instead take a minor amount of damage each second. Yuri is locked in when using this move and as soon as he does anything else it will vanish. He can also be attacked and knocked out of using it so use Guardian Field wisely.

Unique Traits[]

Yuri is capable of Wall Jumping as well as using a unique mechanic called “Fatal Strikes”. When Yuri hits an opponent with one of his Special Moves there is a chance a translucent circle with an arrow pointing in it will appear transposed over that character. The odds of this happening increase the higher the damage that the opponent has taken. This circle can be one of three colors with an arrow pointing in one of three different directions. There is a very short window to do this, but if Yuri hits the directional arrow on his controller when it appears on the opponent he can perform a follow up attack for extra damage.

A green circle with an arrow pointing left or right (the opposite direction from Yuri) will have Yuri quickly dash forward at an insane speed to slash at them from the side and even run past them if there is enough room on the platform to do so. A blue circle with an arrow pointing up will have Yuri swing his sword upwards and leap up into the air to quickly slash the opponent. A red circle with an arrow pointing down will have Yuri jump slightly into the air and spin around himself like he was a little ball before slamming his blade downwards into the opponent. The type of Fatal Strike that Yuri can use isn’t random and is determined both by what attack he used and how far away from the opponent he is.
