Character Info[]
Yugi Muto is a normal high school student with a penchant for playing games… who also happens to house the spirit of an ancient pharaoh inside of him. This spirit, known as the Pharaoh or Yami Yugi, is incredibly skilled in the card game Duel Monsters partially because the game is based on magical duels that took place in ancient Egypt. Yugi and Yami work together in their duels and eventually win the title of King of Games after defeating Maximillion Pegasus at Duelist Kingdom. Many duels, tournaments, and threats to the world later, Yugi and his friends helped the Pharaoh to regain his lost memories and held one final duel between Yugi and Yami so that the latter could finally move on and rest in the afterlife with his friends and family.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Yugi Muto will stand on the stage as the Millennium Puzzle around his neck glows with a golden light as it shakes and rattles before the light completely consumes Yugi. When the light fades Yugi will be replaced by Yami Yugi, the spirit of the Millennium Puzzle.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will have Yugi’s distinct spiky-hair atop his head in all of its glory. Additionally, Kirby will wear a miniature version of Yugi’s duel disk on his left arm.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Yugi will place his hand on his deck briefly before saying, “Heart of the Cards… guide me” and quickly drawing a card and holding it up high above him. What card he drew is hard to tell at first, but by pausing the game and zooming in with the camera you will be able to see one of several of Yugi’s most powerful cards. Some possible options include, “Magician of Black Chaos”, “Valkyrion the Magna Warrior”, “Black Luster Soldier”, “Polymerization”, and “Slifer the Sky Dragon”.
Down Taunt: The Millennium Puzzle will shake and rattle around Yugi’s neck as his jacket whips around as if there was a strong wind.
Side Taunt: Yugi will quickly grab a card from his deck and point forwards with it as he shouts, “It’s time to duel!” This taunt also has a unique property where if you double-click its input Yugi will instead say “It’s time to d-d-d-d-d-duel!”
Victory Poses[]
- Yugi will draw the Dark Magician from his deck and slap its card down on his duel disk. As the Dark Magician appears at Yugi’s side, Yugi will throw out his hand as a command to attack. The Dark Magician will hold out its staff to cast a spell as the entire area they are standing in for the victory screen inverts its colors from the spell.
- Yugi will hold out his hand revealing the friendship drawing that was made on it long ago as spectral versions of his friends Joey Wheeler, Tea Gardner, and Tristan Taylor appear next to him with their hands held out completing the drawing.
- The Millennium Puzzle will shake and shine around Yami Yugi’s neck before the light consumes him. When the light fades little Yugi Muto will be standing in Yami Yugi’s place looking slightly exhausted, but proud of his victory.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Draw Card: With just a press of the input, Yugi will quickly draw a card from his deck and hold it in front of him as the card takes effect. Depending on the card drawn this could either summon a Monster to perform some kind of attack or possibly cause a Spell or Trap to take effect instead. If you hold down the special input then a small menu will appear next to your damage with the names and images of three random cards out of the pool of ten associated with this move. Yugi can then select which of these cards he wants to summon, or press the shield or jump inputs to cancel out of the menu. If Yugi has used up all of the cards associated with this input then the next time he tries to use this move he will instead spend a short amount of time shuffling all ten cards back into his deck. Following that, he can draw cards and play them as per usual. The ten cards that Yugi can draw for this special move and their effects are as follows:
- Ancient Rules - A scroll with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs will appear in front of Yugi before it burns up and vanishes. In its place a randomly selected card from any of Yugi’s cards will appear and immediately perform its attack or activate its effect. Whatever card is activated via Ancient Rules will not count as being drawn by Yugi and won’t be removed from his deck. Additionally, Ancient Rules can cause a card that has already been drawn to be played.
- Blackland Fire Dragon - The Blackland Fire Dragon will appear just behind Yugi before it bellows out a fire breath attack which stretches past Yugi and forwards a couple character lengths. After a couple seconds the fire will begin to peter out and the Blackland Fire Dragon will disappear.
- Book of Secret Arts - A fancy looking spellbook filled with secrets will appear next to Yugi who will snatch it and hold it in one hand. The Book of Secret Arts will now act as a passive item for Yugi that he holds onto for the next 12 seconds or so. So long as Yugi can hold onto this book, his attacks will get a small boost and deal 1.3x their normal amount of damage.
- Dark Magician - Yugi’s signature Dark Magician will appear next to him as it swings its staff and points it forward. The Dark Magician will charge up a dark magic attack with its staff before firing out a beam of dark electrical energy that stretches as far as Battlefield and dealing heavy damage to fighters.
- Feral Imp - The Feral Imp will appear next to Yugi and leap forward a short distance swinging its claws. If the Feral Imp makes contact with an opponent it will latch onto them and scratch their face a couple times dealing multiple hits of damage before knocking them away.
- Gamma the Magnet Warrior - Gamma the Magnet Warrior will appear next to Yugi and draw back its bow with a magnet-tipped arrow on it. Gamma will then fire three slow arrows one after the other and if an arrow hits it will very briefly root an opponent to the spot allowing for a quick follow up.
- Giant Soldier of Stone - The Giant Soldier of Stone will appear in front of Yugi. The Giant Soldier of Stone will grab its stone sword and draw it back for a long windup before it swings forward with a wide arc. This attack is deadly, but the longer drawback telegraphs it well as a warning to opposing fighters.
- Marshmallon - The Marshmallon will leap onto Yugi’s back with joy and serve as a bit of a deterrent for a short time. If Yugi is hit by a melee attack in the next 5 seconds, the Marshmallon will automatically counterattack and leap at the triggering fighter and bite them to deal damage and knockback.
- Monster Reborn - The symbol for Monster Reborn will appear before Yugi with a glittering light before sadly fading away. In its place, the Monster card that Yugi most recently played (from any special input) will appear and perform whatever attack or action it normally would.
- Silent Swordsman LV3 - Silent Swordsman LV3 will appear next to Yugi and perform a lightning-fast swing of its blade in front of itself. If the attack hits then the Silent Swordsman will level up to LV5. Silent Swordsman LV5 will now lunge forward to make an additional sword strike and if it connects then Silent Swordsman will level up to LV7. If Silent Swordsman has made it to this point it will make a final attack and spin around in place, similarly to Link’s Spin Attack, to hit opponents next to it multiple times before they get knocked away.
Side Special[]
- Beaver Warrior - The Beaver Warrior will appear in front of Yugi and leap forwards with its sword drawn to try as it tries to hit an opponent mid-jump. The Beaver Warrior isn’t too terribly strong, but it does leap out rather fast making it slightly more difficult to avoid.
- Beta the Magnet Warrior - Beta the Magnet Warrior will appear next to Yugi and hold out its magnetic hand. Beta’s hand will shake as magnetic waves roll off of it as opposing fighters and items in front of it get pulled closer to Beta. If an opponent gets pulled all the way to Beta then they will be hit with an electric shock by Beta’s hand.
- Brain Control - A brain with disembodied harms will appear in front of Yugi. The arms will grasp forward at whatever is in front of them. If the hands can grab an opponent the brain will spark and zap them with psychic energy. This only deals a small amount of damage and no knockback, but it does scramble that fighter’s controls and reverse their left and right inputs for the next 8 or so seconds.
- Buster Blader - The tall and powerful Buster Blader will appear just behind Yugi before it raises its blade up into the air. The Buster Blade will swing its sword down and create a shockwave which travels along the ground up until the end of the platform. The shockwave doesn’t carry fighters with it, but the knockback is mostly horizontal so its possible for them to get knocked forward in a way that they get hit again by the shockwave later. The initial sword swing is actually more dangerous than the shockwave itself and deals significantly more damage if an opponent is hit by it.
- Dark Magician Girl - The Dark Magician Girl will twirl into existence next to Yugi before pointing her staff forwards. After a brief couple seconds, a large dark energy sphere will materialize at the tip of Dark Magician Girl’s staff before she flicks her staff and sends the orb flying. The orb will explode on contact with anything it touches and burst out into a dark aoe hitting anything around it.
- Gaia the Fierce Knight - Gaia the Fierce Knight will appear next to Yugi. Gaia will quickly extend a hand to Yugi and pull him up to sit behind Gaia on his horse before Gaia commands his sword to quickly charge forward in a straight line. Gaia will deal heavy damage to anyone in front of him and at the end of his charge, or at the end of the platform, will disappear and drop Yugi back down onto the platform.
- Lightforce Sword - A small dagger made of light will appear in Yugi’s hand before he tosses it forward at lightning fast speed. If the sword makes contact with an opponent a symbol will appear above them associated with one of the four different special inputs. Whatever symbol appears, that special input will be temporarily sealed and unable to be used by the opponent for the next 5 seconds.
- Premature Burial - A ghostly hand will rise out of the ground below the opponent who is closest to Yugi in a straight line from him. This only includes opponents in the direction Yugi is facing and has a maximum range of 3 Bowsers. Additionally, this card will only activate if Yugi is standing on a platform. If an opponent gets grabbed by this spectral hand it will pull them down into the ground and bury the fighter in place as well as dealing a small amount of damage to them.
- Silver Fang - The small wolf Silver Fang will snarl next to Yugi before it charges forwards in a straight line. This monster is considerably weaker than Gaia the Fierce Knight as it moves slower and deals less damage on top of not being able to carry Yugi with it.
- Thousand Knives - A multitude of knives will materialize in the air next to Yugi and hang there for a moment before launching themselves forward as a group. These knives compose a single hitbox together and will deal damage and disappear on contact. The Thousand Knives are also very effective at shield killing and can take an Opponent’s Shield from full to near zero.
Up Special[]
- Berfomet - Berformet appears next to Yugi as he quickly climbs up onto its back. Berformet will claw its way into the air diagonally and barrel through anything in its way. Berformet doesn’t climb too high up into the air, but it makes up for it for the higher damage it deals to opponents on contact.
- Catapult Turtle - The Catapult Turtle will appear next to Yugi as Yugi gets onto its launcher. The player will have a few moments to tilt the control stick to change the angle of Catapult Turtle’s launcher before it fires Yugi off into the air. While Yugi flies through the air he can hurt opponents on contact as he effectively makes himself a human cannonball.
- Celtic Guardian - The Celtic Guardian will stand next to Yugi before leaping with a flash up into the air with his sword drawn. This attack is rather similar to Marth’s Dolphin Slash attack however Yugi remains on the ground during it.
- Curse of Dragon - The Curse of Dragon will appear next to Yugi as Yugi quickly gets on its back. Curse of Dragon will then flap its wings and propel itself up into the air as it spins around itself in the process making it a wide hitbox. Tapping the up special input a second time while on Curse of Dragon will cause it to spin around a second time and propel itself slightly higher up into the air.
- Dust Tornado - A narrow tornado filled with dust and feathers will surround itself around Yugi. Yugi will slowly be carried up into the air by this tornado, but he can walk out of it at any height that he wants. Additionally, any traps that are in the range of the tornado such as a Pitfall will be destroyed by this attack.
- Jack’s Knight - Jack’s Knight will appear next to Yugi before it throws its shield up into the air, mostly diagonally but with some slight homing capability. If Jack’s Knight’s shield makes contact with something then Jack will follow up by leaping up towards his target and slash at them once with his sword and knocking them away.
- Magical Hats - A magical top hat will appear over Yugi and conceal him inside of it. By default, an identical top hat will appear a far distance above Yugi and will reveal Yugi hiding below it a moment later. Like other similar teleport moves however, by tilting the control stick you can make the magical hat appear in another direction and teleport Yugi there instead.
- Mystical Elf - The Mystical Elf will appear behind Yugi and stand in place as she utters a mystical chant. As long as the Mystical Elf remains on the field then Yugi will heal 4% damage every second for the next 10 seconds. This effect can be made early if the Mystical Elf is damaged by attacks and KO’d. It’s not too difficult either as the Mystical Elf will stand in place and not defend herself, plus she only has 25% health. Mystical Elf’s only defense lies in her complete immunity to knockback and all types of status effects.
- Pot of Greed - The legendary Pot of Greed will appear before Yugi and chuckle as Yugi reaches inside of it and grabs two cards before putting them away. The next time Yugi presses the input (not holds) for any of his special moves, he will draw two cards at once instead of just the one with the second card activating a second after the first one is resolved.
- Summoned Skull - The Summoned Skull stands menacingly in front of Yugi before it fires several bolts of lightning in one large blast straight above it until they go past the blast zone. This lightning is middling in terms of damage, but will knock opponents way with a large amount of force horizontally.
Down Special[]
- Big Shield Gardna - Big Shield Gardna, with his big shield, will appear in front of Yugi to protect him from attacks! Big Shield Gardna will only hang around on the second for a couple seconds, but in that time he’s able to defend Yugi from all but the most powerful of attacks. Final Smashes will pierce through his defenses, but he’s able to defend from any other normal attack as well as items such as the Daybreak!
- Burning Land - A small meteor will appear next to Yugi’s head before it flies at a downwards diagonal angle. If the meteor makes contact with an opponent it will just knock them back with some fire damage, but if it hits the stage instead then it will leave behind a fire trap which burns in place on the stage for about 8 seconds. This trap is about as wide as Kirby and will deal damage to any opposing fighter the moment they step in it and for every second they remain in the flames.
- Ground Erosion - A section of the ground will cave in, roughly the size of Kirby and one Bowser away, in front of Yugi. This hazard will cause any opposing fighters who run over the ground to trip over it and take a small amount of damage.
- Kuriboh - A Kuriboh will appear in front of Yugi looking cheerful as always as its determined to protect its master. Kuriboh will stay with Yugi and fly by Yugi’s side for the next 6 seconds. If Yugi is hit by an attack in that time frame, then the Kuriboh will multiply and the small army of Kuribohs will fly forwards in a straight line to hurt anything in their way. The Kuribohs don’t actually protect Yugi from the attack and will only fly about as far as Battlefield.
- Lengard - This mystical bracelet-looking monster will wrap itself around Yugi’s arm and stay there for the next 10 seconds. The next attack that would hit Yugi, no matter the damage, will be absorbed by Lengard leaving Yugi unharmed as the Lengard crumbles into dust. Like Big Shield Gardna, this does not protect Yugi from Final Smashes.
- Light of Intervention - An oppressive ray of light will shine down from seemingly nowhere over a section of the stage, roughly as wide as Ridley. This light will continue to shine for about 6 seconds and will deal damage to any opposing fighter that enters its field as well as additional damage for every second they remain in it. Unlike Burning Land which can only create a trap on the ground, Light of Intervention actually targets a point in the air and can be activated with greater flexibility.
- Magic Cylinder - Two magical cylinders will appear in front of Yugi, both facing forwards for a quick couple of moments. If a projectile attack strikes one of these cylinders it will be absorbed by them before a laser blast is fired out of the opposite cylinder in a straight line. The laser stretches past the screen and deals damage roughly equal to 10% + 1.5x the strength of the initial attack with powerful knockback.
- Mirror Force - Mirror Force is a counter attack similar to Magic Cylinder except that it only works against melee attacks. If a melee attack hits Yugi in the time that Mirror Force is activated, a translucent barrier will flash in front of Yugi before it blasts out an energy wave immediately in front of Yugi. The damage from this counter technique is roughly equal to 5% + 2x the strength of the initial attack with equivalent knockback.
- Spellbinding Circle - A circle with various spellbinding sigils will appear on the ground in front of Yugi. If no opponent is standing on the Spellbinding Circle within a second of its activation then it will fade away with no effect. However if a fighter does stand on the circle then they will be ensorcelled by it and forced to stay in place without making any kind of movements for 2 seconds. This allows Yugi a chance to either retreat from the opponent or lay into them with attacks. Any knockback that they would take from attacks is frozen until they are released by the Spellbinding Circle. At that time the fighter will take all of the combined knockback at once, no matter how much of it there was.
- Swords of Revealing Light - A massive sword made purely out of light will appear in front of Yugi, taller than he is and act as a barrier. No attacks, be they melee or ranged, can get past the sword. Additionally, Fighters, Poke Ball Pokemon, and Assist Trophies cannot move through it either and will need to either jump over it or go below it to get to the other side. This sword will disappear after 5 seconds.
Final Smash[]
The Forbidden One: Yugi’s Millennium Puzzle will shake violently as he holds out his hand and causes the golden Eye of Anubis to appear a short distance in front of him. Any opponent who makes contact with the Eye of Anubis in the next couple seconds will become trapped in it before they are pulled inside of it and land themselves in a cinematic. The trapped fighters will find themselves inside of the Shadow Realm which in this case is designed to look similar to Yami Yugi’s soul room with its labyrinth of doors, stairways, and ancient Egyptian symbols. Once inside the camera will pan to Yugi who will immediately draw five cards from his deck and smirk at them. Following this, Yugi will fan out the cards and hold them above his head for all to see as they are revealed to be the five piece of Exodia. Golden light will shine from the cards as the towering form of Exodia, the Forbidden One appears in the background. Yugi will shout, “Exodia… OBLITERATE!” before Exodia charges up a golden ball of energy between its hands and throws it forward creating a massive laser. This laser will rip through the Shadow Realm and destroy everything in its path, including Yugi’s opponents, who are sent flying out of the cinematic to their relative safety as they return to the battle and fly through the air thanks to the Final Smash’s knockback. However, if an opponent had reached 100% damage after Exodia’s attack then they will instead be immediately obliterated and KO’d.
Extra Skill[]
Shuffle Deck: Yugi’s Extra Skill will allow him to shuffle all of his played cards back into his deck so that they can be used again. The length of time this requires is determined by the amount of cards that need to be shuffled. When Yugi is doing this you will see him take all of the cards from the deck and discard sections of his Duel Disk and shuffle them together before sliding the refreshed deck back into the deck zone. Yugi is vulnerable during this extra skill and if it gets interrupted then he will have to try shuffling his deck again to get his cards back. Thankfully he can also cancel out of it himself by shielding or dodging if necessary.
Unique Traits[]
Yugi has a special mechanic for his attacks which is similar in nature to MegaMan.EXE’s gimmick. Each time Yugi presses the input for one of his special moves he will randomly draw 1 of 10 cards from his deck which will instantly activate some kind of effect, usually summoning a Monster to perform an attack. However if you hold down the input then a small menu will appear next to Yugi as he places his hand over his deck. This menu will list 3 of the cards that could be used for that special move and allow the player to select which one they want to activate.
Once a card has been activated it is considered discarded and cannot be drawn again until Yugi’s cards have been shuffled. Yugi’s cards can be shuffled in one of two ways. The first is by using his Extra Skill “Shuffle Deck” which will shuffle the cards for all of his special moves at once and will take a short bit of time to complete. This essentially refreshes all of Yugi’s attacks. The other way Yugi can shuffle his cards is pretty much just to use up all 10 cards for a particular special move. For example if Yugi uses his Standard Special 10 times and plays all of the cards for that move, then the next time he tries to use his Standard Special he will instead shuffle just those 10 cards back into his deck. Additionally when Yugi is KO’d, he will respawn with all of his cards reshuffled back into his deck.
