Stage Info[]

Despite this stage being classified as part of the Yoshi series, this stage is actually based off of the Yoshi’s Island levels in Super Mario World. In Super Mario World, Yoshi’s Island serves as the first world of the game and is located in the southwest area of Dinosaur Land. Yoshi’s House and the Yellow Switch Palace can be found here and Mario must first defeat the Koopaling Iggy if he wants to move on to the Donut Plains.

Stage Layout[]

Yoshi’s Island has a bit of an interesting layout to it. The middle of it is a small flat grounded area with three Rotating Blocks in the middle of the ground. When these Rotating Blocks are hit, or jumped into from below, the blocks will spin for a brief time creating a hole in the ground. These blocks don’t do any damage, they just serve to create a temporary hole while spinning. On the left is a slanted Warp Pipe which fighters can battle on before it leads to the edge of the platform and over on the right is a large slanted hill that leads to a walk-off. Near the middle and floating in the air are two small platforms made up of three Rotating Blocks each. These Rotating Blocks work just like the ones in the stage’s ground and can be stood on as a platform.

Soundtrack[]

  • Super Mario World
    • Athletic Theme - A banjo-based remix which includes a woodblock beat later in the track much like the sound used when Mario rides on Yoshi. [SSBM]
    • Bonus Game

    • Ground Theme
    • Super Mario World Medley - A medley of various themes from Super Mario World beginning with the Overworld theme before transitioning into an interlude with percussion that plays when riding on Yoshi. The entire track’s style is very similar to the original chiptune soundfont but with a prominent electronic beat. [SSB4]
    • Title/Ending - A medley mix of the Title Theme and Ending Theme which features a mix of orchestral and drum-and-bass instrumentation. [SSBB]
