Character Info[]
In Yoshi’s Woolly World the entire world is made up of yarn and other crafting supplies, including Yoshi himself! Instead of chasing after Kamek who has stolen Baby Mario, this Yoshi is instead chasing after Yarn Kamek who has dismantled all their other Yoshi friends into bundles of yarn! Yarn Yoshi has to travel through Craft Island and collect the yarn bundles in each stage so that they can be used to reconstruct all of Yarn Yoshi’s lost friends before they can be used to build a bigger castle for Yarn Baby Bowser!
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Starting from the ground, strands of yarn will weave themselves around as Yarn Yoshi’s form is put together there on the stage.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will wear a cap identical to the one he wears for Yoshi’s Kirby Hat, but this one is made out of yarn!
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Yarn Yoshi will sneeze before rubbing his nose in slight embarrassment.
Down Taunt: Facing the camera, Yarn Yoshi will excitedly wave one of his hands towards the screen as he says, “Yoooooshi!”
Side Taunt: Yarn Yoshi will fall onto his woolly ass before saying “Yoshi!” and jumping back up to his feet. A small number of beads will fall from Yoshi as a little particle effect when he falls.
Victory Poses[]
- Yarn Yoshi will jump up through the air towards a Flower as he snatches it out of the sky. After he lands back on the ground, Yarn Yoshi will hold the Flower aloft in his hand.
- Yarn Yoshi will stick out his tongue towards the left then the right before holding up a peace sign towards the camera.
- The victory screen will be covered by a large fabric curtain. The curtains will begin to scrunch up and be pushed from the left as Yarn Yoshi makes his appearance by pushing away the bundled up fabric.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Yarn Toss: While Yoshi’s equivalent move is assigned to the Up Special, Yarn Yoshi will instead toss his projectile attacks on the Standard Special. If the special button is merely tapped, Yarn Yoshi will throw out a small ball of yarn that travels along a set arc. If this yarn ball hits an opponent they’ll take a small amount of damage and will have a chance of being bound by the yarn for a short time. The chance of this happening and the length of how long they’ll be trapped increases with the amount of damage the opponent has already taken. This effect is similar to being stunned or frozen where it leaves an opponent a sitting duck for a short time unless they can wiggle themselves out of it.
If Yarn Yoshi instead holds down the special button a reticle will appear that can be moved along a curved line that’s roughly a half circle in front of Yoshi with the control stick. When the special button is let go at this point Yarn Yoshi will throw the yarn ball in the direction of the reticle where it will travel in a straight line for a short distance before beginning to fall back down to the ground.
While most yarn balls will immediately break upon hitting something, there is a 5% chance that the yarn balls will be much larger than usual. These bigger yarn balls deal more damage and come with a higher chance to bound an opponent in yarn. These yarn balls will even continue to move after hitting something by either continuing to travel in a straight line if they hit an opponent, or bouncing off in a different direction if they hit a wall or the floor. When the big yarn ball hits something and continues moving, they will shrink to the size of a normal yarn ball to show they can’t bounce off of anything else. Yarn balls can appear in a variety of colors chosen randomly each time they are thrown. These colors include: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, Purple, Orange, Brown, Black, and White.
Side Special[]
Sky Pop Yoshi: Yarn Yoshi’s yarn will swirl and shift around to re-sew Yarn Yoshi’s body into the form of a small plane. As “Sky Pop” Yoshi, Yarn Yoshi will fly in a line about 1/3rd of Battlefield and is controllable to a degree by tilting the control stick merely by ramming into them. In this form, Yarn Yoshi is capable of damaging opponents they come into contact with. Pressing the special button while in the middle of the attack will cause Yarn Yoshi to spin in place to deal some extra damage to nearby opponents.
Up Special[]
Umbrella Yoshi: Yarn Yoshi’s yarn will swirl and shift around to re-sew Yarn Yoshi’s body into the form of an umbrella. As “Umbrella” Yoshi, Yarn Yoshi will be quickly propelled straight up by the power of the wind before his umbrella body opens up allowing Yarn Yoshi to start slowly drifting downwards. In this state Yarn Yoshi has strong command over his ability to drift through the air in a similar manner to when Peach uses her own Parasol. Unlike Peach, Yarn Yoshi is not capable of dealing damage to opponents by running into them, however if they are in Yarn Yoshi’s path as he is being carried up into the sky at the start of this move then they will take a small amount of damage. By tilting down on the control stick, Yarn Yoshi will close his umbrella allowing him to fall downwards at an increased speed. Tilting the controls tick back up will cause Yarn Yoshi to re-open the umbrella and resume his gentle drift through the air.
Down Special[]
Mole Yoshi: Yarn Yoshi’s yarn will swirl and shift around to re-sew Yarn Yoshi’s body into the form of a mole tank. As “Mole” Yoshi, Yarn Yoshi will take a few precious seconds to pull back one of his newly-clawed arms before striking hard with a swiping motion that digs downward into the ground in front of Yarn Yoshi. This move deals heavy damage to walls, platforms, and other obstacles on the field. This includes obstacles that are placed by other characters such as Villager’s Tree, The Trapper’s Hex Totem, and Solid Snake’s C4. In the case of explosive obstacles Yarn Yoshi will take half the damage that the explosive was meant to cause.
Final Smash[]
Mega Yarn Rush: 5 bundles of Wonder Wool matching Yarn Yoshi’s color scheme will appear and quickly spin around Yarn Yoshi before entering his body. Yarn Yoshi will grow to about the size of Giga Bowser and yell out a slightly distorted and threatening “Yooooshi!” before charging forwards in a straight line. Any opponent who is hit by Mega Yarn Yoshi will take a high amount of damage and knockback and be sent flying upon impact. When Mega Yarn Yoshi has reached the blast zones of the stage he’ll return to his starting position back to his normal size and slightly exhausted.
Extra Skill[]
Yarn Count By pressing the Extra Skill input as well as tapping the control stick up or down, Yarn Yoshi can actually alter the amount of yarn that makes up his body. By tilting the control stick up Yarn Yoshi will increase the amount of yarn in his body making him slower, but taking less damage for about 8 seconds. By tilting the control stick down Yarn Yoshi will decrease the amount of yarn in his body making him faster, but taking more damage for about 8 seconds. This effect can be canceled by just tapping the Extra Skill input again. Either way this effect ends Yarn Yoshi won’t be able to immediately use it again and must wait 10 seconds. If Yarn Yoshi is KO’d while under either effect he will be back to normal after respawning.
Unique Traits[]
Yarn Yoshi is capable of crawling against the stage. When he jumps in the air Yarn Yoshi can also utilize his flutter jump technique which allows him to hang in the air for just a couple moments longer.
