Character Info[]
With a name literally meaning “Bad Luigi”, is it any wonder that Waluigi fashions himself as Luigi’s rival and Wario’s partner? Waluigi is known for being rude and a trickster who has no qualms about cheating. Thus far he has only appeared in spinoff titles originating in Mario Tennis where he was created to be Wario’s partner for Doubles matches. Since then he’s appeared in many more tennis titles, Mario Karts, Golf, Baseball, Hoops, Strikers, the Olympics, and even served a truly villainous role in Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
As a parallel to Wario’s entrance, Waluigi will crash onto the stage riding the Standard Bike from Mario Kart Wii.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will wear Waluigi’s purple plumber cap
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Waluigi will display the classic sign for “Loser” atop his forehead by using his right hand to form an L and hold it right on his forehead. As he does this, Waluigi will utter one of two voicelines. Either “Loser!” or “You’re lousy!”
Down Taunt: Taunting his opponent in one of the most humiliating ways possible, Waluigi will perform his classic Crotch Chop animation swinging his arms three times towards his crotch.
Side Taunt: Waluigi will lean forward on one knee ever so slightly as he swings both arms up into the sky in the same direction and ducks his face into the arm in front of it performing the dab.
Victory Poses[]
- The gangly ally of Wario will pirouette onto the screen from the side before ending with a flourish and pumping his fist towards the sky as he says, “Waluigi numbuh one!”
- Using one of his more strange abilities Waluigi will “swim” through the air from off screen and swim all the way across and back offscreen before returning and swimming to the center of the camera with a Smash-style Olympic medal around his neck.
- With a rose clenched between his teeth, Waluigi will moonwalk up towards the camera coming in from far in the victory screen’s background. As he gets closer to the screen he’ll turn towards the camera and give the players a saucy look.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Bob-Omb Lob: With a tennis racket in one hand and a Bob-Omb in the other, Waluigi sports a dastardly grin. With just a press of the special button Waluigi will smack the Bob-Omb with his tennis racket and send it flying forwards in an arc. Upon contact the Bob-Omb will create a small explosion damaging anyone in range and knock them back. Generally this range is only large enough to hit one character. However, from the moment this special move was started the Bob-Omb in question has had it’s fuse light up. If the Bob-Omb is allowed to fly forwards until it’s fuse is fully gone (roughly just short of the length of Battlefield) then it will explode with a greater explosion and damage potentially affecting multiple opponents.
Where this move gets interesting is Waluigi’s ability to hold down the special button before hitting the Bob-Omb. As this move is held, the Bob-Omb’s fuse continues to burn away so Waluigi can use that to try and time just how far away the Bob-Omb will be when it’s fuse is fully burnt and it’s larger explosion gets triggered. Where Waluigi players will have to be careful though is that if you hold the button down too long you risk Waluigi himself being affected by this explosion. He is holding a Bob-Omb in his hand afterall!
Side Special[]
Wall-Luigi!: This move will see Waluigi running forward at a fast speed and the distance depends on how long you hold down the special button. This move is similar to Ike’s Quick Draw, however Waluigi will move at a slower speed. When he runs forward however Waluigi will generate a patch of thick purple thorns that will sprout out of the ground behind him. These vile thorns will be just a bit taller than Kirby and damage any opponents on impact. They only stay on the field for a brief 1-2 seconds after sprouting, but if an opponent tries to run towards Waluigi from behind or they fall onto the thorns from above they’re going to take a bit of damage and give Waluigi just enough time to get away. Or so he hopes.
Up Special[]
Twist Dunk: Grabbing a basketball, Waluigi will spin in place as whirling winds surround him and propel him upwards. These winds can damage opponents who are right next to Waluigi for a small amount of damage. The point of these winds however isn’t to damage opponents though they are a nice deterrent. Instead Waluigi is carried upwards into the air roughly the same height that his fellow plumbers can reach with their up specials. To cap it off, when he reaches the height of this move a basketball hoop will appear in front of him which Waluigi will slam dunk the basketball he’d been carrying into the basket. This basketball is a fast projectile that goes straight downwards and will spike opponents who are hit head on by it.
Down Special[]
Waluigi Dice: For this move Waluigi will pull out one of his personal dice blocks from Super Mario Party and give it a toss landing a short distance ahead of him. Waluigi’s Dice Block however isn’t your typical dice block! This Dice Block faces read as follows: -3 Coins, 1, 3, 5, 5, and 7. The result rolled on the Dice Block will determine what happens with this move.
If the result is -3 Coins, then two things will happen. First, any item that Waluigi was carrying will be dropped. Additionally, he will be momentarily stunned as if he was hit by a Deku Nut. If the result is a 1, then he will take a small amount of damage, but will not be stunned. A result of 3 will cause a very small AOE to occur centered around the Dice Block which is accompanied by an electrical effect.
Either of the two 5 results will see the Dice Block open up to reveal a Bob-Omb which explodes with a larger AOE than the 3 effect. Meanwhile a result of 7 will see the Dice Block open up to see 7 Bob-Ombs are tightly packed together and upon being unveiled they all blow up causing a large explosion.
A couple things to keep in mind are that when the Dice Block is thrown it can deal a small amount of damage just by hitting another player. Additionally, whenever it is rolled it’s effects do not immediately take place. The result on the die will flash for a couple seconds before the result actually occurs. This would give anyone who is in the result’s range a chance to get out of the way. Only one Waluigi Die can be on the field at a time.
Final Smash[]
Waluigi Pinball: Upon activation of this Final Smash, Waluigi will quickly swim through the air across the screen. Any opponents that Waluigi ran into with this swim will be pulled into a cinematic where they will find themselves inside of the Waluigi Pinball pinball machine. Multiple pinballs will be let loose inside the machine as the pinballs and bumpers send the players around in the machine before they all finally fall out of the bottom of the machine bruised and beaten. The Final Smash will end with a chuckle from Waluigi as the camera zooms out to reveal that it was Waluigi who was operating the pinball machine they were all trapped inside of.
Extra Skill[]
Playing Dirty: For this Extra Skill Waluigi will ball up a fist before delivering a sucker punch to his opponent’s gut. If the move connects, then his opponent will fall down into a crumpled state. Additionally, Waluigi will steal an Attribute from that fighter. Some characters may give the same attribute as another. For example Waluigi could get an extra jump from Kirby, electrical attacks from Pikachu or Pichu, Arsene’s stat buffs from Joker, floaty floating in the air from Jigglypuff, faster running speed from Sonic or Captain Falcon. This attribute theft doesn’t rob the initial character of their attributes, it just gifts them to Waluigi temporarily. These effects last on Waluigi for about 10 seconds and are followed by a 20 second cooldown. While Waluigi can use this move during that timeframe, he can’t steal another attribute until the cooldown is up.
Unique Traits[]
Somehow, Waluigi is able to Wall Cling and crawl across the stage.
