Stage Info[]
What if I told you that there were actually 25 hours in the day? That when the clock strikes midnight most of the world is locked away in suspended animation as a massive, looming, and eternally shifting tower takes form atop Gekkoukan High School at Tatsumi Port Island? This tower is known as Tartarus. A small team of high schoolers known as SEES has made it their mission to explore and understand Tartarus which is no simple task when it shifts its own layout every night as well as having malevolent entities known as Shadows that patrol its halls. With each Full Moon and the destruction of an elite Shadow more floors of the tower become available for SEES to explore until they manage to reach the very top where only Death awaits them.
Stage Design[]
Stage Layout[]
This stage will always start out at the floor level of Tartarus which just features a flat ground with walk-offs and no additional platforms. Roughly 15-20 seconds after the fight begins Tartarus will transform as the players are transported to a higher floor of Tartarus. The floor number is for the most part arbitrary and can jump up anywhere between 5 and 20 floors. This number will be displayed in the top left hand corner of the screen. Each floor from hereon is randomized in its selection and while they are all Mid-Air, their size may vary. While the floors are randomized, they are actually picked from a predetermined set of layouts. The only thing that’s random is in what order the layouts are encountered when fighting. It’s even possible to encounter the same layout more than once in a match! If a match goes on long enough that Tartarus has reached (or gone above) the top floor of 264, then the stage will loop back to the beginning at the 1st Floor with the featureless grounded layout.
Hazards[]
Shadows: Occasionally when Tartarus shifts to a new layout and floor, a Shadow enemy can spawn and will serve as a minor enemy to disrupt the battle. These Shadows are called Cowardly Mayas and will normally appear alone, but will rarely spawn with a partner. Cowardly Mayas are pretty slow and will just slug around on their platform if no fighters are nearby. If a fighter does get close to a Maya however they’ll strike out at them with their hands for some weak damage. The range of a Cowardly Maya’s attacks is deceptive however. As a being made up of shadows they are able to elongate their limbs to attack from a farther distance. Luckily for the fighters, Cowardly Mayas are easy to kill and if you just run away from their little area of the field they’ll leave you alone.
