Stage Info[]
Imagine if you will a version of Hyrule with train tracks all of it. Seems crazy right? Well tell that to Link and his Spirit Train as they ride across New Hyrule in order to restore the Spirit Tracks and defeat Chancellor Cole’s Demon Train. Anjean, one of the Lokomos, is the one who grants the Spirit Train to Link and Zelda so that they can accomplish this quest saying that the Spirit Train normally can’t be used by normal people, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Stage Layout[]
This stage has the players fighting on a three-part train which is constantly speeding down the Spirit Tracks towards the left. Due to this, the ground below the train is treacherous. If you land on the ground to the right of the stage you will most likely be left behind as the train zooms past you and you fall behind the blast zones. If you land on the ground in front of the train then when the ground makes you hit the front of the train you’ll take damage and be knocked up into the air. Additionally, any items that touch the tracks (with exception to the Soccer Ball, Smash Ball, Fake Smash Ball, and Sandbag) will be instantly deleted. This includes Assist Trophy characters and Poke Ball Pokemon.
By default, the train has (from left to right) an engine, a roofed compartment, and a carriage. Players can fight on all parts of the train, including the top of the engine and the cabin’s roof which acts as a soft platform. Sometimes a pair of birds will fly above the train carrying a small soft platform between them which can be temporarily fought on top of.
If none of the fighters in the battle are any variation of Link, then Conductor Link will appear with the train’s engine as he drives the train along the tracks. However if any incarnation of Link is part of the battle, then Alfonzo will drive the train instead. Leave it to him!
Hazards[]
Carriage Change:[]
If you see the Spirit Train backing up towards the right side of the screen and you’re on the carriage… you should probably move as that carriage is about to go past the blast zones. The train will remain in this position for a few seconds before it begins to pull back forwards with a completely different carriage being pulled behind it. There are five different kinds of carriage that the Spirit Train can hold.
- Basic Carriage - This is the standard flatbed carriage that the Spirit Train is pulling by default.
- Broken Carriage - This carriage has a broken roof over it (that you can’t fight on) as well as a hole in it middle of its floor. Be careful with this carriage as falling through that hole will have you land on the tracks and likely saying goodbye.
- Multi-platform Carriage - This carriage features a structure with four different short platforms which all stand at varying heights.
- Coal Carriage - This carriage has a mound of coal sitting in it. This makes this carriage a rather uneven platform to fight on.
- House Carriage - This carriage has Linebeck’s Trading Company sitting on top of it which you can fight on top of.
Dark Train:[]
Sometimes during the fight a Dark Train may appear in front of the Spirit Train before it leaps (somehow) off of the tracks and lands on top of one of the three sections of the Spirit Train. The Dark Train will instantly KO any fighter that it lands on directly, and deal heavy damage to them if it's an indirect hit. The Dark Train will stay there for a couple seconds and either explode, dealing damage to all surrounding fighters, or more rarely just sit there for an extra couple seconds as a dud. Dark Trains can be attacked however and made to explode early or at all in the case of a dud.
Armored Train:[]
Sometimes during the fight an Armored Train may appear in front of the Spirit Train before it rams towards the front of the train with gusto. This causes the train to be pushed backwards and sends its third carriage back towards the blast line instantly KOing any fighters who were unable to escape from the carriage in time. As a trade-off, the Armored Train can be fought on top of however if fighters stand where the Armored Train is impacting against the Spirit Train they will take damage and be knocked up into the air.
