Character Info[]

Spidops is a Pokemon native to the forests and plains of the Paldea Region, along with their preevolution form Tarountula. Spidops are known to hide amongst tree branches or on ceilings and can climb on their threads without making a sound. Spidops also tend to cover their territory in traps with sticky threads which can both entrap their prey and alert Spidops when the trap has been sprung. Trainers with arachnophobia are advised to steer clear of areas covered in these threads or else they may find themselves face to face with their greatest fear.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

A Nest Ball is tossed onto the stage from the background which Spidops emerges out of before settling into a squat battle pose.

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby will wear a skintight cap designed to look like the upper half of Spidops’ head.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Spidops will pull out an Ultra Variety Sandwich it stole from a picnicking trainer and quickly devour it in three quick bites.

Down Taunt: Spidops will quickly string together some web and spread its arms out to create a webbed up cat’s cradle, mimicking its pose in its official Pokemon art.

Side Taunt: Spidops will quickly strike a pose mimicking the one that Spider-Man makes when he leaps from above and lands down on the ground, leaning forwards with one hand outstretched ahead of him on the ground.

Victory Poses[]

  1. With its legs paired up, Spidops will slowly descend from a strand of webbing as it climbs down from the top of the screen, pausing in the middle, its eyes glinting at the camera like a threat.
  2. At first there will appear to be nothing on the screen, but then suddenly a piece of the ground of the stage will lift up to reveal Spidops hiding below it. Spidops will look around the area before leaping out of the trapdoor and squinting at the camera as he strikes a combat pose.
  3. Spidops will be spied in the very far back of the results screen before it quickly skitters closer and closer in a zig-zag pattern. Once Spidops has gotten close to the screen it will aim one of its arms at the camera and blast it with a Silk Trap, covering the camera in webs.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Silk Trap: Spidops will point a pair of its spidery limbs forward before quickly firing out a string of spider silk forwards through the air. If this silk hits an opponent it will inflict a minimal amount of damage. Spidops though can continue to quickly fire out these silk strings and if an opponent is hit by multiple silken strings bits of webbing will start to appear on their body. If the opponent is hit by enough of these webs then both their movement speed and jump height will be lowered a bit as the webbing makes it difficult for them to move. If Spidops continues to hit that same opponent with webs then the opponent will end up wrapped into a silken cocoon and be unable to move for a few seconds. The cocoon will break automatically after a few seconds, if they are hit by a strong enough attack, or by mashing the control stick around. If Spidops does not keep up the pressure with this attack then it won’t be difficult for opponents to brush the webbing off of them before it starts to become a problem as it wears off faster than Inkling’s ink does.

Side Special[]

Leech Life: Spidops will crouch down low to the ground before launching himself through the air with a mostly horizontal trajectory. If Spidops makes contact with an opponent while he’s mid-air he will launch on them and bite down on them a couple times, dealing damage with each bite. Spidops can be shaken off in between bites to lessen the damage taken, which players should really do as not only will it lower the amount of damage they take from Spidops, but also because each bite that Spidops is able to make on an opponent with this move will end up healing Spidops of small portion of that damage.

Up Special[]

String Shot: Spidops will point a pair of its limbs diagonally upward before firing out a long string of webbing in that direction. This webbing acts as a tether recovery for Spidops which means that the webbing will automatically home in on tether points such as the edges of a platform. Spidops will then have two options. By tilting the control stick up Spidops will automatically and quickly climb up the webbing and stand where it was tethered too. Alternatively, by tilting the control stick forwards Spidops will instead use this tether as an anchor point allowing him to swing forwards in an arc in a manner similar to Spider-Man. If Spidops makes contact with an opponent while swinging he will inflict damage and knockback to them on contact. Additionally, if an opponent was in the way of Spidops’ webbing when this move was first used, they will take a minor amount of damage and be covered in a small amount of webbing similarly to if they had been hit by the Silk Trap special.

Down Special[]

Sticky Web: Spidops will aim a pair of its arms down at the ground ahead of it before firing out a blast of webbing. This webbing stretches out into a Kirby-sized web that sticks to the ground of the stage. Opponents who run over the web will trigger the trap as the web snaps up to deal a small amount of damage to them. Additionally, triggering this trap will cause the opponent to be immediately covered in enough webbing that their movement speed and jump height are affected, much like with Spidops’ Silk Trap special. Spidops can only place one Sticky Web trap on the field and if it tries to place a second then the first trap will be immediately destroyed.

Final Smash[]

Along Came a Spider: Spidops will spit out a large Ridley-sized web that quickly flies forward for a short distance and traps any fighters it touches on the web. Once the web has flown its full distance, and if an opponent is stuck to it, all fighters stuck to the web will be pulled into a cinematic. In this cinematic the fighters will all be shown scared as they try to wiggle off of the spider web. The camera then pans away to show Spidops slowly climbing up the web. Just as Spidops gets close enough to bite, the camera will fade to black as a bite sound effect and a scream are heard before the cinematic ends and Spidops ‘prey are sent blasting away.

Extra Skill[]

Throat Chop: Spidops will sing one of its sets of arms ahead of it in a chopping motion with blinding fast speed. By default, this move will inflict a minimal amount of damage. However if an opponent was in the middle of using an attack then Throat Chop will not only interrupt the attack but will deal a significantly increased amount of damage. Throat Chop can even interrupt attacks that have Super Armor properties to them such as Captain Falcon’s Falcon Punch!

Unique Traits[]

Spidops is capable of both wall jumping and wall clinging.
