Stage Info[]

Sootopolis City hosts the Hoenn region’s Water-type gym and is only accessible by flying over it or diving under it due to the high walls that fully surround the city. These walls are the remnants of a massive crater which once struck the region. Deep below the city lies the Cave of Origin which is where a young Pokemon Trainer once did battle with Groudon. Or was it Kyogre? Maybe we should ask the Gym Leader Wallace. Or was it Juan? Hm.

Stage Layout[]

Sootopolis City has a wide grounded floor serving as the base of the city. The left and right sides of the stage are walled off by tall walls which (mostly) prevent the fighters from leaving the city. In the middle of the city sits the Sootopolis City Gym which fighters can battle both in front of and on top of.

It’s possible for some fighters to make it over the walls, either with their superior jumping capabilities or by being launched over them with enough knockback. Not much awaits them on the other side however as water covers the bottom of the stage outside of the walls. If a fighter is lucky, a Wailord may emerge out of the water on either side of the stage and serve as a temporary platform allowing for the fighter to try and make their way back inside the city. However if a fighter is still on Wailord when Wailord decides to return underwater they’ll be left to fend for themselves.

Standing in the background watching the fight will stand a few different characters who are famous in the Hoenn region. These background cameos will always include Archie and Maxie, as well as at least two of Steven Stone, Wallace, Juan, and Zinnia. Also in the background, way way back behind the walled off city of Sootopolis you can find Groudon and Kyogre fighting in the background of the stage. Due to this, the Groudon and Kyogre Poke Balls cannot spawn on this stage.

Hazards[]

Groudon:[]

The battle waging in the background will take a turn as Groudon undergoes Primal Reversion and begins to turn its stalemate against Kyogre into a beatdown. As a side effect, Maxie will begin to look nervous and frightened. While Primal Groudon is in the background its ability Desolate Land will be in effect creating extremely harsh sunlight to appear on the stage from above. This sunlight can not only make things difficult to see, but the intense heat of the sun will make all fighters take constant hits of fire damage every second making the entire field dangerous for everything. As a secondary effect, this harsh sunlight will weaken the damage and knockback output of all water and ice-based attacks. After a short time, Primal Groudon will revert to its normal form, its battle against Kyogre will return to a stalemate, Maxie will look relieved, and the harsh sunlight will fade away.

Kyogre:[]

The battle waging in the background will take a turn as Kyogre undergoes Primal Reversion and begins to turn its stalemate against Groudon into a beatdown. As a side effect, Archie will begin to look nervous and frightened. While Primal Kyogre is in the background its ability Primordial Sea will be in effect creating a deluge of rainfall to hit the stage. This rainfall can not only obscure a fighter’s vision, but it also makes the stage rather slippery and adds a chance for fighters to trip as they try to run around over the stage. As a secondary effect, this heavy rainfall will weaken the damage and knockback output of all fire and explosion-based attacks. After a short time, Primal Kyogre will revert to its normal form, its battle against Groudon will return to a stalemate, Archie will look relieved, and the heavy rainfall will fade away.

Rayquaza:[]

The battle waging in the background will take a turn as both Groudon and Kyogre seem to cower from an unseen foe. As a side effect, any characters other than Maxie and Archie will look excited at the new arrival. Rayquaza will appear from the skies in its Mega Rayquaza form as it gives Groudon and Kyogre an unheard tongue lashing for their respective temper tantrums. While Mega Rayquaza is in the ground its ability Delta Stream will be in effect creating harsh winds to whip around the stage. This will cause heavy winds to push everything on the stage towards either the left or the right and that direction can change at any point. As a secondary effect, the gravity on the stage will be lowered allowing all fighters to jump up higher into the air than normal and fall back down to the ground at a reduced speed. This has a nice little side effect of making it easier to get over the wall of Sootopolis City. After a short time, Mega Rayquaza will fly back up into the sky, Groudon and Kyogre will resume their fight, the characters in the background will look disappointed, and the heavy winds will fade away.
