Boss Info[]
When a young girl nearly became possessed by a Shadow Synergy Stone, it was Mewtwo that swept in and saved the day. Unfortunately for Mewtwo however the Shadow Synergy Stone changed tactics and embedded itself in Mewtwo’s body so that it could possess Mewtwo instead. Mewtwo’s body changed to a dark black and while it was under the Shadow Synergy Stone’s influence it flew across the Ferrum region and sought to increase its power by draining the Gaia energy from as many normal Synergy Stones as possible. Eventually Shadow Mewtwo was defeated by a skilled Pokemon Trainer participating in the Ferrum League. In its defeat, Shadow Mewtwo found itself being saved by the same young girl it previously saved who used her own Synergy Stone to separate the Shadow Synergy Stone from Mewtwo’s body and restore Mewtwo to normal.
Boss Fight Details[]
Shadow Mewtwo operates in a similar manner to Giga Bowser. Shadow Mewtwo is a larger and more powerful version of the Mewtwo character and as such has similar properties and a similar moveset. Shadow Mewtwo is capable of running around the battlefield much like Mewtwo, but has a slower movement speed with an increased size. Shadow Mewtwo also has access to the majority of Mewtwo’s moveset with some moves getting buffed accordingly or having some minor properties altered. Thankfully however Shadow Mewtwo does not have access to Mewtwo’s Grabs or their Final Smash.
Attacks[]
Swift[]
A spinning star will materialize around Shadow Mewtwo and quickly fire towards the player. This attack isn’t one of Shadow Mewtwo’s strongest, but it does have light homing abilities and will curve its flight path to try and hit the player. When Shadow Mewtwo is on lower health, they can throw out two or even three spinning stars at once.
Psycho Cut[]
A dark arrow will materialize around Shadow Mewtwo and hang in the area for a brief 2 seconds. Once this time has passed the arrow will quickly zoom in a straight line, pointed right where the player was at the time, in an attempt to strike them. This is a stronger, but more easily dodgeable version of Swift. When Shadow Mewtwo is on lower health, they can throw out two or even three of these arrows at once.
Psychic[]
With a wave of their hand, Shadow Mewtwo will create a pillar of dark light on the ground. This pillar will slowly move towards the player for up to 5 seconds before it dissipates. This attack deals no knockback to the player, but will instead deal multiple hits of damage to the player for every second they are in the light’s field.
Psywave[]
A powerful twister of dark psychic energy will surround Shadow Mewtwo protecting them from all attacks. If the player touches the twister they’ll be sucked in and take several hits of damage before the attack launches them far away at its conclusion.
Zen Headbutt[]
Shadow Mewtwo will rise up into the air before diving headfirst at the player. While Shadow Mewtwo’s entire body is a hitbox at this point, the player will take more damage if they are hit by its head than the rest of its body. When Shadow Mewtwo dives for the player they’ll have some windup at the start, but the actual attack moves quickly.
Flamethrower[]
A gout of flame will erupt from Shadow Mewtwo’s outstretched hand which fans out in a thin cone aoe. Multiple hits of damage await players who make contact with the fire, but the knockback isn’t too extreme.
Earthquake[]
Shadow Mewtwo will rise up into the air as it creates a psychic barrier above itself. Shadow Mewtwo will suddenly flip through the air and slam downwards into the ground which deals heavy damage to the player if they are directly underneath Shadow Mewtwo. Additionally, this attack sends out a quaking wave of psychic energy along the stage which travels all the way to the edge of the platform.
Thunder[]
Shadow Mewtwo will conjure a powerful bolt of lightning which will quickly strike down in front of them. This attack is heavily damaging and has a chance to stun players for a short time instead of doing knockback to them.
Dark Nova[]
Dark Nova is the equivalent of a Final Smash for Shadow Mewtwo. Shadow Mewtwo will float up a short distance into the air as they begin to charge up a sphere of dark psychic energy above them. This sphere will increase in size over time and damage anyone that touches it much like Shadow Ball. Once 15 seconds have passed Shadow Mewtwo will hurl the now massive sphere towards the player in an attempt to destroy them. It is possible to dodge or shield through this attack with precise timing or by baiting Shadow Mewtwo into throwing it an area and then making a mad dash away from it.
There is however a way you can stop the attack entirely. While Shadow Mewtwo is charging this attack they will be locked into the animation and cannot do any other attack. If the player attacks Shadow Mewtwo during this time and deals enough damage (more difficult to do on higher difficulties) they can break Shadow Mewtwo out of the attack. This will cause Shadow Mewtwo to fall down to the stage and be stunned for a few seconds before they regain themselves and begin to battle once more.
