Boss Info[]

Reznor is the collective name for a group of four rhino-triceratops like dinosaur creatures who seem to be affiliated with Bowser’s Army. In the past they’ve been charged with protecting some of Bowser’s fortresses and towers with similar levels of responsibility to that of Boom Boom and Pom Pom. As a soldier in Bowser’s army, Reznor likes to fight on top of a set of rotating platforms mostly in groups of four, but occasionally in groups of 2, as they rain down fireballs against Mario and Luigi.

Boss Fight Details[]

Reznor is treated less as a true Boss encounter and more of a mini-boss or special encounter similar to that of Bossgrock or Bonus Car. Fights against Reznor always take place with four of the little dinos on a rotating platform which is constantly rotating either clockwise or counter-clockwise. Additionally this fight always takes place with the Reznors up above a perilous bridge.

About 15-20 seconds after the battle begins the bridge will begin to fall apart piece by piece just as it does in Super Mario World which will eventually leave just the Reznor’s platform as a place where the fighter can safely stand. All four dinos which make up Reznor must be defeated (and each has their own smaller health bar) in order to beat this boss.

If a player hits the platforms that a Reznor is standing on top of from below they can deal up to 25% damage to the Reznor’s health (depending on difficulty) as well as spawn an item which falls from the block.

Attacks[]

Fireball[]

Reznor’s signature attack, these fireballs are spit out from a Reznor’s mouth and travel forwards in a straight line wherever they were fired. Reznors will fire these fireballs in the direction that the player was at the time though there is no tracking beyond that. These fireballs aren’t super damaging and are about the size of Mario’s fireballs. However they are numerous and each Reznor can fire off their own fireballs individually.

Gold Fireball[]

This attack will only be used after one of the four Reznors have been defeated. This attack is telegraphed by a Reznor pausing to take a longer breath before breathing out a golden fireball which is considerably larger than their normal ones. These fireballs travel in a straight line like the normal ones do, however they are more damaging and are slower to move which makes it more difficult to navigate the screen with fireballs of different speeds coming at the player.

Flamethrower[]

This attack will only be used after two of the four Reznors have been defeated. When a Reznor uses this attack it will breath out a stream of flames instead of fireballs in a similar manner to Bowser’s firebreath. The fire moves as the Reznor does and doesn’t stay static in the air. This gives the Reznors a bit of a front-facing defense against attacks.

Soundtrack[]

  • Super Mario World
    • Fortress Boss - A Spanish flamenco-themed remix of the boss theme featuring trumpet, accordion, and acoustic guitar, in addition to some vocals singing something similar to a Cuban rumba. [SSB4]
