Character Info[]
Once a young salvager who made his living diving for treasures in the Cloud Sea, Rex’s world was turned upside down when he met Pyra and became the Driver of the Aegis. Rex went on an adventure all across Alrest in order to reach Elysium and meet with the Architect and getting into all kinds of trouble along the way. The years that followed are a bit of a mystery, but when the worlds of the Bionis and Alrest were fused into Aionios, Rex took up his swords once again. In this new world Rex teamed up with Shulk, a hero from the Bionis who could be said to be Rex’s counterpart, to form the Liberators and fight back against Alpha who sought to destroy all life on Aionios.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
A grappling hook will attach itself to a platform from below as Rex uses it to hoist himself up to the stage. Rex will leap into position once he’s pulled himself up part way to reference his salvager days when he was young.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will have Rex’s hair atop his head as well as the same eye scar that Rex has over Kirby’s left eye.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Rex will pull out a photograph of his friends and family and stare at it for a moment before sighing, clearly missing them all deeply. This photograph is the same that Nia has at the end of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Down Taunt: Rex will spin both of the firelight blades around in his hands as he looks forward confidently and says, “I’ll show you a thing or three.”
Side Taunt: Rex will wind up an arm a bit before punching a fist into his hand and saying “Don’t hold back.”
Victory Poses[]
- Rex will slowly clap for his opponents, acknowledging their hard work as he says, “Maybe next time kiddos.”
- Rex will let out a deep laugh as he leaps through the air spinning his blades before landing with a heavy thud and posing with a very similar stance to his official art in Future Redeemed.
- Rex will swing both of the firelight blades in front of him in an x pattern, shouting as he does, before plunging both blades into the ground. This causes twin bursts of fire and light to pulse through the ground around each sword.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Anchor Shot: Rex will hold his left arm forwards as he fires off a small anchor forwards like a grappling hook. This anchor has some good range to it as it can reach about as far as Simon Belmont is able to swing his whip. If the grappling hook makes contact with an opponent it will deal light damage and minimal knockback to them. However, by tilting the control stick towards the opponent after they are struck by the grappling hook, Rex will grapple himself towards the opponent. Alternatively by tilting the control stick back towards Rex, the grappling hook will instead pull the opponent towards Rex. Rex/the opponent will be pulled up to half the maximum range that the grappling hook can fire so depending on how far away Rex is front he opponent he can pull himself all the way to his opponent, or them towards him. Additionally, if this grappling hook hits the edge of a platform it will latch onto it and allow Rex to pull himself up to the platform.
Side Special[]
Rolling Smash: Rex will perform a forward frontal flip as he swings his firelight swords with him through the air before landing forwards a decent distance and slamming his blades into the ground. Unlike when Shulk uses his Back Slash attack, this move will not inflict additional damage when attacking an opponent from behind. Instead, this attack hits with two attacks that are weaker comparatively with one light-based attack and one fire. This allows each part of this attack to be individually affected by Spirits that affect light and fire attacks.
Up Special[]
Dual Blast: Rex will leap into the air as he swings both of his firelight swords upwards with him. This attack can catch another fighter on the blades as they inflict twin hits of light and fire damage. Opposing fighters won’t be carried all the way up with Rex if they are hit by this attack, but they will be knocked up into the air a short distance while Rex continues his leap up higher.
Down Special[]
Double Spinning Edge: With an attack not too dissimilar to Link’s classic Spin Attack, Rex will leap up into the air as he spins through the air swinging his firelight swords around him as he does. Rex will only spin around himself twice as he damages enemies up to four times with his two swords. The first and third slashes of Rex’s swords will inflict no knockback which all but guarantees that the second and fourth slash will follow up on that same opponent for an additional hit before knocking them away from Rex. Unless an opposing fighter has taken minimal damage or is considered heavy/tanky they are unlikely to be hit by all four attacks.
Final Smash[]
Future Redeemed: Rex will swing his two firelight swords in front of him in an x-pattern as he deals damage to any and all fighters who are right in front of him before knocking them into a cinematic. Once in the cinematic, Rex will smirk as he unleashes a series of attacks using his two firelight swords against the opponents. Suddenly Rex will leap backwards and stand next to his daughter Glimmer who looks surprised to see him. Rex will pass Glimmer his fire sword as he says to her, “C’mon kid, let’s show ‘em a thing or three.” After this both Rex and Glimmer will leap into the fray as the two swing their swords with coordinated strikes against the opponents. When it's time for their final attack, Rex and Glimmer will dash forwards and swing their blades in an x-pattern causing an explosion of light and fire that sends their opponents flying away.
Extra Skill[]
Infinity Blade: Rex will take his two firelight swords in his hands and hold them against each other as the two blades are merged into the sword that Rex swung in his younger years when he had awakened Pyra and Mythra’s third form, Pneuma. While Rex is wielding this emerald blade, all of his sword attacks will change to accommodate the fact that he is now wielding just one larger sword instead of two. While Rex is wielding Pneuma’s blade his single sword swings will inflict damage and knockback that’s more than what just one of his firelight swords could inflict on its own, but less than the two of them together. This trade-off makes some of Rex’s attacks weaker overall with the trade-off that he doesn’t need to hit with both blades at once in order to be effective. Rex is able to freely swap between attacking with his firelight swords and Pneuma’s blade at will during battle.
