Assist Trophy Info[]
Pikmin are a sentient plant species found on PNF-404, created by spaceship-like structures called Onions who first produce them as seeds. Rallied by the likes of Olimar, Alph, and others as their leader, these intrepid spacefaring captains learn to live and work with the Pikmin on their explorative quests. One Pikmin may not be strong on its own, but together, they can achieve great feats—like retrieving appropriate rations to survive the day, building (and breaking) bridges and other impressive structures, and even defeating formidable foes several times their size!
Mode of Assistance[]
An Onion will come hurriedly, wobblily pacing from orbit, as they do, and settle on the stage directly where the Assist Trophy was used. The Onion can come in a multitude of colors, ranging between red, blue, yellow, and purple. Although, this isn't much more than an aesthetic choice. Pikmin of all sorts come marching out from the Onion, and not a split moment later are in perfect circle formation, surrounding their ship. 50 Pikmin arrive, split in type between Red Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, Purple Pikmin, Rock Pikmin, White Pikmin, and Winged Pikmin. The exact makeup of how many of each type are present varies per each summon, with each Pikmin capable of carrying out the task at-hand a little better or worse than their compadres; Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin are the all-around guys, Purple and Rock Pikmin are heavy-lifters, and White and Winged Pikmin might be a little on the weaker side. Next, several flagstone rocks are dumped by the Onion directly behind the Pikmin. The Onion flies back from whence it came and the Pikmin get to work.
The Pikmin will begin their march, picking up pieces of the flagstone. They will move towards the center of the stage, building a large structure with the stone. It will take upwards of eight seconds, but they will have ultimately built a giant sculpture in the center of the stage! The Onion returns and immediately gulps all of the Pikmin back up inside of its mass, tarrying skywards to bring them back from whence they came. The sculpture can take on a multitude of forms and stands roughly three or four Ridleys tall, depending on the exact structure. These structures include: a Bulborb, the Hocotate Ship, a Burrowing Snagret, a Thwomp or Whomp, the Triforce, Stonjourner, Gordo, a Chozo, the Fire Emblem (from Shadow Dragon), and a giant Jinjo.
The sculpture will remain on-stage so long as it remains untouched. It can be used as an additional platform without worry, for the most part. Although, some designs are friendlier for platforming than others, and the Gordo and parts of the Triforce will flat-out hurt those trying to board them. If it is hit, however, it will slowly begin to degrade. Roughly three fully-charged Smash attacks can totally dispatch of it. It'll want to tip over in dramatic fashion, giving fighters a split moment of time to escape before being dealt a bunch of damage, crumbling beneath the weight of the fallen sculpture. If the sculpture is attacked from the left or right, it will fall in the opposite direction of where it was hit; from below, parts of it could jettison straight upwards, and the exact opposite is true for a fatal blow from above. Parts of the sculpture could degrade faster than others, too. Specifically attack the head of the Jinjo sculpture, for instance, and it'll go rolling off and collide with opponents before the remainder of its body will.
The Pikmin can also be stopped in their quest to build the sculpture. If they are all KO'd before they can complete it, the sculpture will stand unfinished and can have whatever is built of it destroyed with ease. Some Pikmin carry the flagstone more easily than others; namely, the Purple and Rock Pikmin. Dispatch of these, and the remaining Pikmin will take a while longer to build the sculpture successfully—especially lightweight White or Winged Pikmin. It is still possible for even one remaining Pikmin to finish the sculpture, but naturally it would take much, much longer than usual.
If a Pikmin is hit and they drop their flagstone, the stone will break and the Pikmin will opt to attack their assailant, instead, latching onto them and incorporating their appropriate element in each hit as they would as part of Olimar or Alph's moveset.
The Pikmin will not be summoned again so long as even a portion of their structure remains in-tact.
