Character Info[]

Phoenix is a member of the Time Patrol, a police organization that travels through time and space to maintain their natural order. He enters a 27th Century F-Zero Grand Prix of the AX and GX era with the Rainbow Phoenix, a state of the art 29th century vehicle given to him by the Time Patrol. The reason for entering? He's in hot pursuit of a villain from the future! Phoenix himself hails from the 29th century and was selected by the Time Patrol as a representative of this period. His partner is QQQ, who he built the Rolling Turtle for from out of a military satellite. F-Zero fans speculate that Phoenix may be a descendant of Captain Falcon.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

Phoenix zooms onto stage on his machine, the Rainbow Phoenix. He leaps out and floats gently onto his feet.

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby dons Phoenix's righteous helmet.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Phoenix turns towards the camera and puts a hand on his hip as he performs a salute, just as he does in his official AX and GX artwork.

Down Taunt: Phoenix smirks at his opponents and makes a motion towards his wrist like he's checking for time. He cheekily says, "You're running out!"

Side Taunt: Phoenix grabs his Time Patrol communicator and holds it over his shoulder. He speaks into it, "I see them."

Victory Poses[]

  1. The camera pans in towards Phoenix with dynamic cuts as he performs the Phoenix Fist. We freeze frame on a close-up of Phoenix's finishing stance, with the wind phoenix having been sent off somewhere.
  2. Phoenix, Time Gun held in both hands beside his head, walks towards the camera. Once he gets towards center-screen, he points it at the screen, saying, "Hands up."
  3. The Rainbow Phoenix zooms into view, and Phoenix leaps out of it, floating to the ground with his arms crossed as he chuckles.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Time Shot: Phoenix whips out with a Time Patrol-certified space gun. The gun is shaped similarly to a Wii Zapper, but it's colored black and white like his police uniform and doesn't bear any usual controller parts; it is an actual weapon, just loosely in the shape of a Nintendo controller as a callback. He takes a shot a moment later, and a blue, pulsing, spherical laser ejects from it. It travels about as quickly as Fox's Laser, scurrying forward in a cyclical arc before it hits an opponent. A weapon of this caliber comes with a special trick from the 29th century. Once the laser makes impact, it'll suddenly materialize from behind the opponent, as well, before traveling forward and smacking them again. When it rematerializes, laser will appear a couple of feet above where the hit first landed, giving Phoenix's foes an opportunity to potentially evade the second blow. The move is chargeable. At full capacity, the bullet becomes roughly the size of Gengar's Shadow Ball, and travels just as quickly as the smaller laser would. It deals a heftier blow, naturally, and is capable of altering the speed of opponents that its return hit connects with for a limited time. They may become faster or slower to a 1.2x, 1.5x, or 2.0x degree.

Side Special[]

Phoenix Fist: Phoenix readies into position with one leg outstretched behind the other, kneeling with his left arm charging up over his right. Just as he's at about full charge, he shouts, "Phoenix... Fist!" He bursts forward, backhanding those in his path as he barrels ahead several feet (about four Kirbys in length). A wind-based attack, a flurry in the shape of a phoenix encapsulates him as he initially rides forward, then departs from Phoenix and barrels ahead a couple of more feet itself before dissipating. Those above or below its hitbox will be carried with it for a bit, in a gust, while those who do connect with it once it leaves Phoenix's purview will be dealt some decent cutting damage. Like Captain Falcon's legendary Falcon Punch, the element phoenix makes a screech of its own as it materializes beside the time detective.

Up Special[]

Rising Phoenix: Phoenix throws his fists into the sky and is carried upwards by a gust of wind that twirls around him as he soars. He looks akin to a drill while in this position, and surely enough the move can be tilted left or right at its apex to move him slightly in one direction or another in a similar fashion to drilling sections in vintage platformers. Get caught at the center of this move and you'll enable a tipper that's worthy of breaking shields. After traveling about half as far as Snake's Cypher would take him, the wind dissipates and Phoenix will freefall back to the ground. Whereas Captain Falcon shouts "YES!" when his Falcon Dive connects, Phoenix will shout the name of his move as it activates: "Rising Phoenix!"

Down Special[]

Future Sense: Phoenix presses a button on a small white and black device that summons a luminous, silver, phoenix-shaped aura around him for a split second. If an opponent attacks Phoenix while he is encapsulated in the aura, he will suddenly float back a few feet, cape billowing and all. Meanwhile, the aura phoenix will penetrate the attacker, causing a swirl of light to encapsulate them. The aura drastically slows down the attacker, as well as any other opponents that appear within its grasp. The move can be activated by projectiles, too, although it won't slow down the opponent if they are too far away. Due to the variables at play in Time Patrol technology, their speed can be reduced to 1/10th, 1/8th, or even 1/6th of their standard. This can make the move occasionally more potent than both the Timer and Bayonetta's Witch Time.

Final Smash[]

Rainbow Phoenix: The Rainbow Phoenix zooms back over to Phoenix, and he hops back into his trademark vehicle. Phoenix will then dash forward, completely across the stage in whatever direction he was facing. He will then come speeding back in at the opposite direction a few feet higher. This cycle continues until Phoenix has zoomed completely up the stage with his zigs and zags. Any character caught in the Rainbow Phoenix's path will be dished out some serious damage. At the end of his roadrun, the Rainbow Phoenix will drive back to where it was summoned. Then, Phoenix will jump out of its hatch, perform a thumbs up towards the screen, and shout "There we go!" as the Final Smash ends.

Extra Skill[]

QQQ: Phoenix's trusty partner, QQQ, swaps out with him. Like with Pyra and Mythra in Ultimate, the change is nearly instantaneous and occurs with a single flash of light.

Unique Traits[]

Phoenix can float as other characters would if they were using a Super Leaf. He can also wall jump.
