Orochi is an ancient demon who resides in the Moon Cave. Once every year, the eight-headed serpent would select a young woman from Kamiki Village to act as his ritualistic sacrifice. That was until the fabled Shiranui and Nagi slayed the beast and sealed him away! 100 years later, Amaterasu is called down from the Celestial Plain to defeat Orochi once more. Alongside the fearful but spirited Susano, somehow, they manage to do just that. This doesn't stop Orochi from returning yet again at the Ark of Yamato, and again in Okamiden! It's hard to keep a serpentine demon god down for long, it seems.

Representing Orochi's eight heads are eight of Ridley. Each one is colored appropriately, as based off of the elements that Orochi's heads represent—fire, earth, poison, light, lightning, water, wind, and darkness. They're also encapsulated in a see-through mist that pulses with this color, and are given tinges to their attacks to further represent these elements. For instance, all of the fire Ridley's attacks will appropriately bear flame effects; all of the lightning Ridley's attacks will bear lightning effects, and so on. These auras also represent a line of defense—super armor that makes the Ridleys completely impenetrable to attack. In order to break through this armor, the player must first douse the Ridleys in water. For a brief period of time, any doused Ridleys will lose all status effects, leaving them open to a pummeling. All eight Ridleys must be defeated within the time limit. Water Barrels will frequently spawn on the stage to help the cause.
