Stage Info[]

Murasame Castle is a prominent castle in Edo-period Japan—well, at least in Takamaru's world. It houses the titular gold Murasame statue, which is later given life by a mysterious alien entity that crashes through the castle's roof on one fateful stormy night—hence the name The Mysterious Murasame Castle. Samurai Takamaru is tasked by the Shogun, Ietsuna Tokugawa, of liberating the five castles taken over by this alien force, including Murasame itself.

Stage Design[]

Murasame Castle Layout

Stage Layout[]

It's a looming castle typical of its time period, and its complicated upwards design reflects this. Several roofs and trellises make up the majority of the ground that can be fought upon, with a thick patch of earth at the very bottom and the pronounced curves of an Edo-era roof atop.

Hazards[]

Weather[]

The weather will change from clear to stormy, much as the time cycles between day and night. As it storms, lightning may diagonally strike the stage. The exact location that the lightning will hit flashes a bright circular yellow within a few seconds of the strike, offering room for players to evade the bolt without much consequence. If it lands, however, it'll dish out some hefty damage and knockback! Besides lightning, the storm will also create puddles that characters might slip on.

Fire Demon[]

Fire Demons will occasionally filter in from either side of the screen. Capable of jumping and gradually walking forward and back, they are about as formidable as they were in their 8-bit heyday. They are capable of two projectile attacks. One is shooting a standard fireball that slowly travels from one end of the stage to another, much like they do on the Mario Bros. stage. The other is to throw a much faster-moving rainbow-colored shuriken that can be struck down with a well-timed counterattack. Effectively Murasame Castle's Goomba, Fire Demons can be whacked off pretty quickly with a decent hit or a pop on the head.

Bridge Guard[]

Drawbridge-shaped alien guardians that are capable of crunching their bodies down to result in an upwards leap, they also function in Smash as they do in The Mysterious Murasame Castle. Appearing at the very bottom ground floor of the stage, the Bridge Guard will gradually make its way up, throwing eight shuriken out in an omnidirectional pattern each time that it does. It takes some beating up to get it knocked out, too; it's a real damage sponge. The saving grace here are its very slow-moving and predictable movements.

Bomb Thrower[]

Bomb Throwers will appear near the edge of a platform, tossing green bombs from a comfortable distance. The bombs dish out some generous damage and knockback, as one would come to expect. They're glass cannons, though; a few hits will take care of them.

Flame Thrower[]

Flame Throwers operate similarly to Bomb Throwers, except they spit large, unassailable fireballs out at surprisingly efficient speeds.

Sword Samurai[]

Rival samurai of a defending castle, these roguish noblemen dash forward with their swords held outwards, jabbing whoever lands in their path. A few hits should do the job.
