Character Info[]

Monokuma is a stuffed robotic bear who claims to be the Headmaster of Hope’s Peak Academy. When the 78th Class of Hope’s Peak arrived at the school they were met by Monokuma who explained to them that they were now trapped and would be forced to live there for the rest of their lives. The only way to escape was to murder one of their fellow students and escape being caught at the resulting trial. Following the end of that killing game, Monokuma would be spotted again on Jabberwock Island where another class of students was meant to be on a fun school trip. Once again, Monokuma would force another class of Ultimate students to kill if they wanted to survive. In another timeline Monokuma, along with his children the Monokubs, held a killing game for a completely different cast of students at the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles. No matter where he goes or what the situation is, Monokuma’s number one purpose is to bring Despair wherever he can.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

A puff of smoke will be on the stage which quickly dissipates to reveal Monokuma behind it.

Kirby Hat[]

The left side of Kirby’s body will become jet black with the left side of his face having a wide toothy grin. Kirby’s left eye will also be replaced by a replica of Monokuma’s jagged red eye.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Monokuma will throw up his hands above his head and gleefully shout, “Despair!”

Down Taunt: Monokuma will hold up one paw in front of his mouth as he lets out his soft trademark laughter, “Pupupu!”

Side Taunt: Monokuma will grab his belly and let out a loud “AHAHAHAHAHA” laugh.

Victory Poses[]

  1. A conspicuous red button will be on the ground in front of Monokuma. Monokuma will leap up into the air performing a front flip as he slams the button with a mallet.
  2. Monokuma will leap up from below the screen with a pair of angelic wings on his back. As he begins to descend the wings will fall off as he falls to the ground.
  3. Monokuma will dance like the Monokuma units do in Ultra Despair Girls as he shakes his body while alternating between waving his arms above his head with him rolling his arms around themselves like the Cabbage Patch dance.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Spears of Gungnir: This move will start with a fair bit of startup lag as Monokuma bends over slightly and then rises back up with his claws held straight up in the air. At this moment several spears will pierce up through the platform in front of Monokuma attempting to pierce anyone that was standing there. Each spear does it’s own separate small amount of damage so if you only knick someone with a couple this won’t be too damaging, but if someone was standing right in front of Monokuma they will take the full force of the attack. Against aerial opponents this move is pretty weak as it will just bounce them up slightly in the air. However if an opponent is on the ground in front of Monokuma when this is used they’ll find themselves in a crumple state after the spears retract allowing Monokuma to follow up with another attack. Fortunately Monokuma is unable to effectively chain this move over and over again thanks to the startup lag. That being said, Monokuma is capable of charging this move up and when he does the range of the move will be extended further similar in nature to Ike’s Eruption attack. This move can only be used when Monokuma is on the ground and therefore spikes cannot be created that would extend past whatever platform Monokuma is standing on.

Side Special[]

Wild West Insecticide: With a tap, Monokuma will take out a small Wild West-styled pistol and fire out a small robotic wasp from it. This wasp will fly quickly in a straight line and will sting an opponent on contact dealing a small amount of damage. Monokuma is capable of quickly firing two wasps one after the other, but must wait until one wasp has been destroyed before he can fire a third. The wasps will also explode if they fly too far without making contact with anything. For an alternate attack, Monokuma can hold down the special button to instead fire a much larger wasp from the pistol. This wasp flies much slower making it easier to avoid however it does a greater amount of damage. When this large wasp gets near an opponent it will swing one of its scythe-like blades forwards for a high amount of knockback.

Up Special[]

Blast Off!: At the start of this move Monokuma will seal himself inside of a small iron maiden-inspired rocket ship. At this point the rocket ship will blast off a decent distance into the air damaging anyone that comes into contact with it, but without carrying any opponents into the sky as it goes. When the ship has reached the height of its journey it will comically flip around until it is pointing upside down where it will then plummet straight down. The player is able to exert some influence over the rocket falling slightly to the left or right of its initial trajectory at this point and once the rocket makes contact with the stage it will explode damaging anyone who is nearby. Monokuma however pops out of the rocket completely unscathed. This move comes out quickly and is powerful, however Monokuma is incapable of canceling out of the attack once it begins.

Down Special[]

Self-Destruct: This special move is a counter that doesn’t require precise timing. When activated, Monokuma will self-destruct and will be seen visibly being destroyed as an explosion rocks out from his body. This damages anyone near Monokuma and sends them flying away with force. The more damage Monokuma has currently taken, the more powerful the explosion will be. The downside to this is that Monokuma ends up damaging himself in the attack as the explosion literally destroys his body. This doesn’t end up in a KO for Monokuma however as a new Monokuma will instantly replace the old one in the battle with the same damage percent that the previous Monokuma had.

Final Smash[]

A Smashing Good Time: Monokuma will yell out, “It’s punishment time!” as a chain with a metal collar is fired out from him. If this metal collar makes contact with another fighter it will latch on to them and drag them into a cinematic cutscene. The screen will then transition to the fighter trapped in what looks like an empty hallway. At the end of this hallway will be a door with a sign on it marked “SAFE”. The fighter will be seen attempting to run through the hallway to safety however their journey won’t be easy. As the fighter begins to move all manner of traps and dangerous weapons will spring out in an attempt to kill them. Super Scope shots will be fired out from the falls, fire pits will open up beneath their feet, Killing Edges will swing at them from the ceiling, and other such monstrous traps. Though scratched and burned, the fighter will appear to have made it to safety as they make their way to the opposite end of the hallway. However, just as they reach for the “SAFE” door, a trio of Bob-ombs will fall from the ceiling and explode right in their face, knocking them out of the cinematic and back into the battle.

Extra Skill[]

Monokuma File: Monokuma keeps on him three murder weapons from past Danganronpa titles almost like a trophy. When using this Extra Skill, pictures of these three weapons will appear around Monokuma with an arrow that you can direct with the control stick. Let go of the extra skill button when the arrow is over one of these items and Monokuma will pull it out of the ether and equip himself with the items to use in the fight. Each of these weapons can only be equipped once per stock so use them wisely.

  • Kitchen Knife - The kitchen knife is good for slow heavy attacks that involve swinging the knife in a horizontal slash.
  • Iron Skewer - The iron skewer is good for quick attacks that cover more range than Monokuma’s other normal attacks which involve thrusting the iron skewer forwards in a stabbing motion.
  • Shotput Ball - The shotput ball is a heavy throwable weapon. It is thrown in an arc and doesn’t travel very far, however if it hits an opponent from above it will end up meteor smashing them downwards.
