Stage Info[]

The Metaverse is another side to reality where people’s cognition can shape the world around them. Some people whose desires are distorted enough are able to form their own palaces where they serve as rulers representing a location in reality that they consider to be distinctly under their control. Mementos however is considered “everyone’s palace”, and is where those with distorted desires that aren’t strong enough to form their own palace all reside. Mementos is based around the underground subway system in Tokyo and is a massive series of twisting subway tunnels where the path is constantly changing. Mementos has a multitude of floors which the Phantom Thieves must traverse throughout their journey as they seek to help the people of Tokyo and change the hearts of the masses.

Stage Design[]

Stage Layout[]

Mementos has a large primary platform that’s a bit lopsided as the left side is higher in elevation than the right with the middle being a slope that connects the two. There are two soft platforms that float above the stage with one close to the main platform floating above the left and one in the center that floats higher than that. A third platform will appear from time to time floating above the right section of the stage. This platform is in between the other height-wise and is a solid platform that fighters cannot pass through. This third platforms seems to have a tv screen of sorts in it which is filled with static. Occasionally Morgana will be seen running through this screen like in the intro movie for Persona 5.

This stage has a lot going on with it aesthetically as well. When fighters run along the platforms they will leave behind pink splashes instead of the normal dust effects referencing the effects for when running around in the Metaverse in Persona 5. Morgana, in his bus form, can drive in from the background to watch the battle play out for a while. When Morgana arrives some of the other Phantom Thieves may appear with him and stand in various places on the stage. The Phantom Thieves that can appear are Skull, Panther, Fox, Queen, Oracle, Noir, Crow, and Violet. When a fighter is KO’d the Phantom Thieves may cheer out in celebration depending on how they’re feeling.

This stage can also change its aesthetics based on what music is playing on it. While this stage primarily is designed around Persona 5 and plays primarily Persona 5 music, if music is being played from one of the other Persona games then the aesthetics will change.

When music from Revelations: Persona plays (other than Aria of the Soul), the color scheme of the stage will change from red to a light purple. The platforms on the stage will incorporate butterflies and diagonal lines into their designs and the backdrop of the stage will include a piano.

When music from Persona 2 plays, the color scheme of the stage will change from red to orange. The platforms on the stage will incorporate Xs and hearts into their designs and the background will become wreathed in barbed wire.

When music from Persona 3 plays, the color scheme of the stage will change from red to blue. The platforms on the stage will incorporate clocks and triangular patterns into their designs and the backdrop of the stage will include a full moon.

When music from Persona 4 players, the color scheme of the stage will change from red to yellow. The platforms on the stage will incorporate flowers and checkerboard patterns into their designs and the backdrop of the stage will include some rainbow-like streaks.

When Aria of the Soul plays, the stage will gradually transition between each of the stage’s aesthetics. It will always start with the Persona 5 aesthetics but will gradually morph from Persona 5 to another game as it shifts repeatedly throughout the match.

If Joker wins a match on Mementos while the stage is using one of its alternate aesthetics, then his victory pose screen and music will change to match the current color scheme of Mementos. Additionally, his Rebellion Gauge will change its color to match that of Mementos as well.

Hazards[]

Train[]

If you hear a low ringing sound while smashing it out on Mementos you should take care to avoid going below the main Mementos platform, or perhaps try to throw an opponent down there! Shortly after this alarm has whistled, the subway train in Mementos will come rushing through below the platform and inflict a heavy amount of damage and knockback to any fighters that it makes contact with. This will likely lead to the fighters getting KO’d if they aren’t lucky.

Walls[]

Sometimes while the fight is happening, a large jaggedy-looking wall will come in from either the side or top of the stage, or even from a diagonal. This wall acts as a solid obstacle and any fighters or objects that run into it will bounce off. This will prevent fighters from being KO’d past the blast zones in that direction for a time. After some time has passed, the wall will begin to recede back off screen allowing fighters past the blast zones once again.
