Character Info[]

Melia Antiqua is the daughter of the High Entia Emperor Sorean Antiqua and princess of the High Entia people. Shulk first encountered Melia in Makna Forest suffering from ether depletion after failing to kill a Telethia with her guards. Melia didn’t initially trust Shulk, not until he helped her to avenge her guards and defeat the Telethia. Melia would continue to travel with them and only reveal her royal status once they had arrived at Alcamoth, the royal city of the High Entia. Melia was chosen as the successor to the Emperor, a decision not everyone was happy about, and was sent to complete a dangerous trial to prove her worth. She succeeded, only for Mechons to attack Alcamoth and lead her to join Shulk through the rest of his journey to Prison Island and stop the Mechon threat.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

Melia will warp onto the stage using an Alcamoth transporter.

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby will wear Melia’s hat on his head and have her wings sticking out from behind it.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Melia will turn around and cross her arms with an annoyed expression on her face. Once she’s turned around Melia will say, “How rude” before turning back around and continuing to fight.

Down Taunt: Melia will clutch her staff close to her and lean her head down towards it with her eyes closed and say, “I must not lose focus!”

Side Taunt: Melia will twirl her staff in her hands a couple times before thrusting it forwards saying, “En garde!”

Victory Poses[]

  1. Melia will slam her staff into the ground as she summons one of each element around her. After a moment each element will fire off in a direction and burst which creates a colorful display of destructive elemental magic all around Melia.
  2. Melia will collapse her staff and place it against her hip before reaching up to one of her wings and gently stroking its feathers. Melia will say, “Is this all you’re capable of?” If Shulk was in the match she’ll follow up the quote by adding his name to it in exasperation.
  3. Melia will jump, twirl, and dance with her staff as she gracefully moves about the victory screen before ending in a pose with her staff held out towards the camera.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Elemental Discharge: If Melia has no elements floating about her, then she is unable to use this attack. If Melia does have elements available to use, then she will channel the leftmost element and use it for an attack. This attack will depend on what element is being channeled and none of the attacks are chargeable. If Kirby currently has a Kirby Hat from Melia absorbed, then he will gain three random elements after acquiring the hat. Kirby will then lose this Kirby Hat once all three elements have been used up. The attacks and their outcomes are as follows:

  • Bolt Discharge - A spark will hang in the air for a moment about a character’s distance away from Melia before a sphere of electrical energy bursts out from it to damage any opponent in its range. When Melia discharges the Bolt element, she will also gain a boost to the knockback of her attacks for the next few seconds.
  • Flare Discharge - A bolt of flame will zip forwards from Melia’s staff and travel down at the ground diagonally. When the flame hits the ground it will cause a short tower of flame to rise up from its spot and damage opponents who make contact with it. The flame tower will persist for a couple seconds before dying down. When Melia discharges the Flare element, she will also gain a boost to the damage of her attacks for the next few seconds.
  • Aqua Discharge - A tidal wave will wash up in front of Melia dealing a small amount of damage to enemies in melee range of Melia while also pushing them away a fair distance. When Melia discharges the Aqua element, she will also gain a Regeneration status effect which restores to her 8% health over the next 4 seconds.
  • Wind Discharge - Tornadic winds will surround Melia and deal multiple hits of damage to any opponents caught in its zone. This wind will extend to both sides of Melia as well as above her, but will not damage anyone who is below her. When Melia discharges the Wind element, she will also gain a boost to her movement speed for the next few seconds.
  • Earth Discharge - A spire of earth will immediately erupt in front of Melia dealing a high amount of damage to opponents as well as knocking them up into the air. When Melia discharges the Earth element, she will also gain a boost to her defense against damage taken from any attack over the next few seconds.
  • Ice Discharge - A wave of ice will appear from the ground in front of Melia and travel forwards a medium distance as icicles just out from the ground. The wave and icicles each can damage opponents and if a fighter is caught by the initial wave there will be a chance of being frozen and tossed up into the air. That chance will increase with each additional hit taken from the ice. When Melia discharges the Ice element, she will also gain a boost to her defense against knockback taken from any attack over the next few seconds.

Side Special[]

Starlight Kick: When Melia uses Starlight Kick she will attempt to make a flying kick forwards before unfortunately falling on her ass and sliding forwards. Despite appearing to be a failed attack, the initial kick will actually connect with opponents and can deal a fairly significant amount of damage. Opponents who are hit dead on with the kick as it strikes will actually find themselves tripping in place on the ground. This can be significant as when Melia falls and slides forward, she will deal a couple extra hits of small damage as she slides across the ground. Tripped opponents will find themselves unable to avoid these attacks as they are carried forward with the slide. Naturally, Melia will end this attack with a brief “Ow” as she bemoans her hurting foot.

Up Special[]

Spear Break: Melia will take her staff in hand and jump up into the air at a slight diagonal as she holds her staff up like a spear. This attack can hit multiple times if an opponent is in Melia’s way and if they were caught in the sweet spot just at the start of the move they will be forcibly carried with her all the way. Additionally, if an enemy was caught at the start not only will they take the full brunt of the attack, but they will also have a slight delay when the attack ends before the knockback kicks in and sends them flying. This allows a chance for a follow up strike to increase the knockback further and simulate the Slow effect that Spear Break can inflict in Xenoblade Chronicles.

Down Special[]

Shadow Stitch: Darkness will surround the ground beneath Melia’s feet and extend beyond her about 1 Bowser to either side of her. Dark tendrils will quickly sprout out from the ground to deal damage to any opponents in its range. Any opponent on the ground in that radius will be targeted as well as opponents who are just slightly above. Opponents who are struck by Shadow Stitch will also have a chance of becoming Stunned and unable to move for a few seconds with that chance increasing if they’re at a high damage amount. Otherwise, opponents will be knocked away horizontally from Melia a short distance.

Final Smash[]

Heavenly Starlight Kick: Melia will start off her Final Smash by activating Mind Blast and sending out a wave of what seems to be psychic energy in an area in front of her. Any opponent hit by Mind Blast will then be pulled into a cinematic. During this cinematic, Melia will leap up into the air and dive downwards at her opponent with a kick as her leg is surrounded in the Bolt element. Just as Melia is leaping up into the air she will say, “Witness, my true power!” Melia will slam into the opponent with an elementally charged Starlight Kick as she says, “Heavenly Starlight Kick!” before leaping back into the air and repeating the process until she’s kicked the opponent once for each element starting with Bolt and continuing in the order of Flare, Aqua, Wind, Earth, and Ice.  After the final kick the opponent will be sent flying away and the camera will pan back to Melia who will be seen massaging her aching foot and saying “Ow…”

Extra Skill[]

Summon Element: Melia will tap her staff against the ground as three elements appear floating above her. The elements look like wisps of smoke with bits of what their element is mixed into the middle. It is randomly determined what elements Melia will get when using this move out of Bolt, Flare, Aqua, Wind, Earth, and Ice. Melia could get completely different elements or all three could be the same element. If uses this extra skill when she already has elements then the old elements will be replaced by the new elements. This extra skill is to be used in conjunction with her Standard Special, Elemental Discharge. When starting a match, or after reviving from being KO’d, Melia will always start out with three random elements. This Extra Skill is used for getting more elements after those three have been used, or to replace Melia’s existing elements with ones the player would rather use.
