Stage Info[]

Deep in the capital of the Gestahlian Empire lies the Magitek Research Facility, a place where experiments on Espers are carried out and where the empire’s Magitek technology is produced. Terra Branford and the Returners infiltrate the Magitek Research Facility in an attempt to free the Espers being tortured there. Unfortunately the Espers have been so drained of their powers, that all they can do is grant their Magicite to the Returners to use against the Empire. With the Espers no more the Empire was cut off from their magic and the Magitek Research Facility was dismantled.

Stage Layout[]

This stage features a long solid platform in the middle with two much smaller solid platforms off to the left and right and below the stage. Two additional soft platforms are above the main platform as well. Spread out across these platforms are 6 glass tubes which hold a different Esper, looking weak and drained, inside of them. There is one glass tube on each of the four smaller platforms and two on the main platform.

Throughout the fight one of the Espers in these glass tubes will glow and flash with light until it fades away leaving a Magicite stone floating in front of the glass tubes. These Magicite stones function similarly to the Summon Materia on the Midgar stage. Whichever fighter is first to make contact with the Magicite will summon the Esper to assist them in battle. The Espers can appear in different tubes each time a match is started, but will stay in that tube for the whole match. After an Esper has been Summoned it’s tube will remain empty for 15-20 seconds before it will reappear. The different Espers and their effects can be found in the Hazards section.

Stage Hazards[]

Esper Magicite - Bismarck[]

When Bismarck is summoned bubbles of varying size will appear over the screen one after the other. After a bubble has been on the screen for a few moments it will suddenly burst dealing water aoe damage to any opponents in its area. As one might expect, smaller bubbles do less damage and knockback than larger bubbles. Bubbles will continue to appear and explode 6 seconds or so before the attack ends.

Esper Magicite - Carbuncle[]

When Carbuncle is summoned their summoned will be surrounded by a transparent barrier made of ruby light which will grant them the Reflect status. For the next 15 seconds any and all projectile attacks that hit the fighter will be reflected back in the direction they came from with increased speed and damage.

Esper Magicite - Maduin[]

When Maduin is summoned the screen will be covered in a dark purple aura as chaotic waves of energy will wash out from Maduin in chunks. Maduin is the equivalent to Midgar’s Bahamut and as such each Chaos Wave is highly damaging and can easily KO fighters. This attack will continue for about 6 seconds or so before it comes to an end.

Esper Magicite - Phantom[]

When Phantom is summoned their summoner will be surrounded by a ghostly fog which obscures them entirely until it fades away leaving the fighter invisible. The fighter will be wholly invisible for the next 15 seconds.

Esper Magicite - Catoblepas[]

When Catoblepas is summoned it will focus its stony gaze on the fighter who summoned it. After a couple seconds a lightly damaging aoe will blast out from that fighter with a high chance to cause paralysis on nearby foes. This paralysis is more dangerous on weakened opponents as it will take longer for them to break out of it, making them sitting ducks for attacks.

Esper Magicite - Unicorn[]

When Unicorn is summoned the player that snagged their Magicite will be surrounded in a pearlescent aura. This aura will remove any negative status effects such as having their controls scrambled and will shield that fighter from being affected by any new negative status effects for 15 seconds.
