Stage Info[]
A place that seems both real and unreal. Throughout their journeys, Ninten and Ness both visit a place called Magicant. When Ninten was there he met with Queen Mary and healed her amnesia with the power of the Eight Melodies. This act revealed that the Magicant they were in was actually created by Mary’s subconscious. Meanwhile for Ness, Magicant was a place that could only be accessed once one had obtained the Eight Melodies and only he could enter it. This Magicant seemed to be created by Ness’ consciousness and was populated by his memories as he encountered characters he’d met along his journey. It’s not clear what connection these two Magicaznts have. Perhaps it is simply a term for a while that can be created inside one’s mind for others to visit. Or maybe it’s just the friends we made along the way.
Stage Layout[]
Magicant features four fluffy pink clouds platforms for fighting on and all of them are considered semisoft platforms meaning that fighters and objects can pass through them by going up, but cannot fall down through them. These platforms are also not symmetrical to the stage. A smaller platform exists up and to the left of the main platform, while a second smaller platform sits further up and to the right of the main platform with both platforms having differing degrees of how much of them overlap hanging above the main platform allowing fighters to just jump straight up to reach them. The fourth platform is below the main platform and is by far the smallest of the four and just large enough for Ridley to sit comfortably on it. This platform skews to the left of the main platform.
Magicant also features a few non-damaging obstacles that come and go as the battle progresses which can affect the platforms.
- A simple tree which acts as a barrier preventing anyone from moving through it, but can be attacked through.
- A Mobile Sprout which walks back and forth on a single platform. Like the tree, this cannot be walked through, but can be attacked through. Additionally the top of it can be stood on like a platform.
- The Sky Runner which can fly in from the top of the screen and will find a place in the air to hang in place acting as a solid obstacle. Like the Mobile Sprout it can be stood on no problem, but when it starts to fly away it can bring fighters past the blast zones so be careful. The Sky Runner can be forced to leave early if it is kicked upwards by a Flying Man.
- Dungeon Man will sometimes appear along the bottom of the screen as it slowly walks from one side of the screen to the other. The top of Dungeon Man’s head can be used as an obstacle and when Dungeon Man appears the lower platform on the stage will temporarily disappear.
As the battle fights on, tears in space-time can appear in Magicant’s background showing off a few scenes from Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings. Some of these scenes are:
- Ninten standing outside of his house with his dog Mick.
- Ninten standing on top of Twinkle Elementary School’s roof alongside Lloyd.
- Ness and Paula traveling through Threed with regular citizens and zombies roaming the streets.
- Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo at the Lumine Hall sanctuary with scrolling text on the wall reading, “I’m Ness…”
- Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo walking near the Phase Distorter 2 in Saturn Valley.
Stage Hazards[]
Giant Tomato:[]
A giant tomato is another obstacle that can appear on the stage to throw a wrench in the fight. This tomato is shorter and wider than Bowser and can just materialize on any of the four stage platforms. This tomato will slowly sink through the clouds over time and when it falls it can deal roughly 20% damage if it hits a fighter. If the tomato falls on another platform it will continue slowly sinking through it. If the tomato lands on top of Dungeon Man it will break apart with a splash of tomato juice. The tomato can also be attacked and if it receives enough damage it will break without having to fall.
Octopus Statue:[]
The Octopus Statue is similar to the tomato with the same behavior of it materializing on a platform and slowly sinking through it. The differences between the tomato and Octopus Statues begin with its size as its much narrower than the tomato and is roughly as tall as Ganondorf. Additionally the Octopus Statue will not break if it lands on Dungeon Man and will instead just vanish in a puff of smoke. If the Octopus Statue is attacked it will speed up the sinking process instead of breaking.
Flying Man:[]
On the right most platform, there is a house. At a random, but generally early, point in the battle a Flying Man displayed in SNES glory will be seen standing outside of the house. If a fighter gets up next to the Flying Man they will have recruited them into fighting for their team. This essentially makes the Flying Man an Assist Trophy that exists solely on this stage. From this point on the Flying Man will run and jump around as it attacks the other fighters and any KO that the Flying Man gets will be rewarded to whoever recruited them. The Flying Man in turn can be attacked and killed. When this happens a small gravestone will appear in front of the house. Sometime later, another Flying Man can appear outside of the house ready to be recruited. This process can be repeated until five Flying Men have been recruited and killed. Once the fifth Flying Man has been defeated no more will appear through the rest of the match.
