Character Info[]
One half of the Mario Bros, and unlike his brother he’s rather cowardly. Luigi would prefer a nice quiet day in with a book instead of dealing with the likes of Bowser and King Boo. There have even been times where Luigi tried to get out of going on an adventure, but was dragged along anyways such as when he and Mario had to take a trip to the Beanbean Kingdom. Did you know he’s trained as a Doctor? Well, he certainly claims to be at least.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
A green warp pipe will sprout up out of the ground just in time for Luigi to awkwardly jump through it. Unlike Mario who leaps out of his warp pipe full of confidence, Luigi will nervously say, “Let’s-a go!” almost as if he doesn’t want to be there with his expression mimicking his scared look on the cover of Luigi’s Mansion.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will wear Luigi’s iconic green cap.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Luigi will strike a series of five poses rapidly as he says, “Hoh, hah, hee, heh, hoo!”. These poses are in order: Flashes a V for Victory sign towards the camera, pointing off the side he was facing with finger guns, looking towards the camera while holding his finger up to his nose, almost like he was thinking, crouching down with his back to the camera as if he were examining something on the ground, and finally facing the camera with a horrified expression on his face similarly to the painting Scream and the cover of Luigi’s Mansion.
Down Taunt: Luigi will awkwardly kick at the ground in a bit of an “aw shucks” manner. This causes a small puff of air to be kicked up, though this is purely aesthetic. What’s not aesthetic however is that this kick can actually damage the opponent. If it makes contact it will deal 1% damage and can meteor smash an opponent if it's well-placed over an edge.
Side Taunt: Luigi will fall face forward in a diagonal manner and lie down on his stomach almost as if he were planking. As he does this he’ll say, “Lu-igi!”
Victory Poses[]
- Luigi will childishly swing both his fists in the air with his eyes closed as if he were trying to fight off an opponent he was scared of. After a quick bit of this, Luigi will open his eyes and lean forward, resting his hands on his knees, as he gasps in exhaustion.
- Luigi will start off facing the back of the screen before quickly turning around and giving an uncharacteristic sly look as he does a finger guns motion saying, “Bang! Bang!”
- Using the Poltergust G-00, Luigi will be seen in the process of sucking up a Goob ghost into the vacuum. Once Luigi has succeeded he’ll let out a sigh of relief and wipe his arm across his forehead.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Fireball: Almost like he’s snapping his fingers, Luigi will fling out a green Fireball which spirals in a tight circle as it travels through the air unlike Mario’s Fireball which bounces along the ground. This fireball deals a small amount of damage on impact and minimal knockback. Luigi must wait either two seconds after the first fireball was fired before he can fire another or once the original fireball has made contact with something. Either way, Luigi can only have two Fireballs on the screen at a time.
Side Special[]
Green Missile: Luigi will crouch down and launch himself in the air flying sideways almost as if he were a human battering ram. When uncharged Luigi will sputter out and land just a few feet in front of himself and only deal a smaller amount of damage if he happens to hit someone. When charged up however Luigi can fly through the air at a greater speed and fly further away allowing this move to be used for horizontal recovery. Naturally this move also deals a greater amount of damage when charged up. This move also has a 10% chance to misfire where Luigi fires himself immediately with gusto. Despite this being called a “misfire” it’s actually the most powerful form this move takes as the damage, range, and speed of the move all increase even further past its normal fully charged state.
Up Special[]
Super Jump Punch: Luigi will leap up into the air with an uppercut punch with deceptively fast speed. The damage from his move can vary depending on where an opponent is when Luigi hits them. While on the ground if Luigi is able to hit them right away in his sweet spot, a special ping sound will be heard as the screen zooms in just a bit on Luigi as he deals greater damage and rises with further speed. When used well this sweetspot can KO an opponent who would have normally survived the attack. The downside is that when Luigi uses this special move, he’ll go into a state of freefall after reaching the apex of his jump.
Down Special[]
Poltergust G-00: To mirror Mario’s use of F.L.U.D.D., Luigi pulls out his own invention by Professor E. Gadd, the Poltergust G-00! When Luigi pulls out the Poltergust G-00 a windbox will come into effect as it pulls in anything that can move towards Luigi. A single press of the button creates just a small effect that can really only move things that are already in front of Luigi, however if the button is held down then the vacuum effect becomes stronger allowing it to pull in things that are farther away. If Luigi continues to hold down the button for more than 3 seconds then the strength of the vacuum will increase further increasing the range on it slightly while also allowing it to pull in heavier objects. Be careful however as the Poltergust G-00 does no damage on its own and Luigi is a sitting duck while he uses it. That said, it can be used to pull opponents over a trap such as an active Bob-omb or a Pitfall.
Final Smash[]
Luiginary Typhoon: Luigi comes packing yet another new Final Smash! When this Final Smash begins Luigi will suddenly feel drowsy as he falls backwards just in time for a pillow to materialize under his head allowing Luigi to safely drift off to sleep. While he’s taking his nap, Luigi’s dreaming will have an effect on the battle as a massive tornado made up of a multitude of Dreamy Luigis suddenly begins to sprout from the dreaming thought bubbles that are coming out of Luigi’s head! This Luiginary Typhoon quickly grows to a massive size and swirls around itself rapidly staying in place. This attack deals constant damage to any fighters who were caught in it, either initially or those that got knocked into it after the attack started. Thankfully it can be fairly easy to avoid if you manage to not get hit by it initially, just stay away from the typhoon and you’ll be safe. It’s harder to do on smaller stages however and other fighters may certainly wish to try and knock their opponents into the tornado for some easy damage.
Extra Skill[]
Thunderhand: Gifted to Luigi by the Thunder God of the Beanbean Kingdom, when Luigi activates this skill his hands will have an electrifying aura that lasts for a short time. During this time, all melee attacks that Luigi performs will deal additional electric-element damage. Even if the attack is using a melee item that hits with a different element. Luigi’s Special Moves are affected as well, but any attack that’s not Luigi directly hitting someone with his body or an item he’s holding will not count. It works for Luigi’s Super Jump Punch, but not his Fireball. It works when swinging a Fire Bar, but not when throwing a Beastball.
Unique Traits[]
Luigi is able to crawl along the ground, wall jump, and has a grab which is able to tether opponents.
