Character Info[]
Over the course of history there have been many tales of a lad in green taking up a legendary sword and shield to battle a great evil. This is one of those Links. During a chaotic time an army lead by Ganon attacked the kingdom of Hyrule and stole away the Triforce of Power meanwhile the princess broke apart the Triforce of Wisdom into pieces and hid them away. When Link heard of this from Impa he journeyed to rebuild the triforce and save the princess by destroying Ganon. A few years later Link would learn about the Triforce of Courage after a strange mark appeared on his hand. After Zelda fell under a magical sleep, Link would set out on a new journey to claim the Triforce of Courage and awaken Zelda all while evading the remains of Ganon’s minions who sought to use Link’s blood to revive their master.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Link’s 8-bit form from the original Legend of Zelda will be on the stage, before it quickly morphs and changes into Link’s design for Smash.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will wear Link’s traditional green cap atop his head.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Looking absolutely joyful, Link will hold out a Rupee in front of him. When the Rupee is revealed the Rupee’s sound effect will play. The Rupee’s color is randomized each time this taunt is used between yellow and blue.
Down Taunt: Link will raise one leg up, hold his shield forward, and brandish his sword above his head in a pose similar to the attacking pose in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
Side Taunt: With his sword sheathed, Link will run a hand through his hair and give a quick grin to the camera.
Victory Poses[]
- Link will hold a triangular Triforce Shard up above his head with a big grin on his face.
- The screen will look like a really dark cave until a small flame lights up in the middle revealing Link holding a lit candle as he slowly moves it around to get a look at his surroundings.
- Link will take two wide swings with his sword towards the screen before sheathing it on his back.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Bow: Link will fire out a regular arrow from his simple bow. This arrow normally won’t fly very far and will fall down as it flies. If this attack is charged up Link is able to increase the range, speed, and strength of the arrow to make the attack stronger. When fully charged the arrow can fly an incredibly far distance and will fly on a completely straight path. When compared to the bows of other Links, this special move fires arrows much faster than the other Link’s bows. Each time Link uses this attack a little 8-Bit Rupee will appear out from the top of the bow as a fun aesthetic nod to the fact that in the original Legend of Zelda each time Link uses the bow it would consume one Rupee.
Side Special[]
Magical Boomerang: Link will pull out his blue Magical Boomerang and fling it forwards. Link can influence the path the Magical Boomerang will follow by angling the control stick when throwing it. While on its forward path it can launch enemies up into the air with some decent knockback. When the Magical Boomerang turns around and begins making its return path to Link its magical properties will kick in. At this point if the Magical Boomerang hits an opponent there is a chance (which increases the more damaged the opponent is) that they’ll be temporarily stunned in place similar to if they had been hit by a Deku Nut. This can be a great way to catch weaker enemies off guard and follow up with a powerful strike. Do be warned however that the stun doesn’t last very long.
Up Special[]
Spin Attack: When used on the ground Link will rapidly spin around himself with his sword outstretched to hit opponents right next to him up to four times. This comes out insanely fast with each hit dealing less damage than the previous one however the final hit can knock opponents away. When used in the air this move will propel Link up into the air as he rapidly spins around slashing. This version can hit up to nine times each however depending on the opponent Link is hitting they may not be hit by each slash. As a reverse to the ground version each slash will deal slightly more damage than the previous one with the final slash dishing out the knockback.
Down Special[]
Bomb: Link will pull out a simple blue bomb and toss it forwards. This bomb will explode either after four seconds have passed since Link pulled out the bomb or after it makes contact with a fighter, attack, or some sort of surface. If Link is the only fighter caught in the bomb’s explosion then he will be damaged, otherwise if any other fighter gets hurt by the explosion Link will be safe. Link can also choose to hold onto the bomb if he holds down the down special button. Upon releasing the button Link will then throw the bomb. The timer of the bomb is still ticking however so it’s possible for the bomb to blow up in Link’s hands. If this happens then Link and any other fighter in the bomb’s range will be damaged.
Final Smash[]
Silver Arrow: With this Final Smash Link will pull his trusty bow back out and notch a shimmering Silver Arrow on it. Ten Rupees will quickly appear around Link as he lets go of the bowstring and sends the Silver Arrow flying. The Silver Arrow travels at lightning speed and reaches all the way across the stage hitting any and all fighters in its path. The farther away from Link a fighter is the more damage the Silver Arrow will do to them. However the closer to Link a fighter is the more knockback the Silver Arrow will do to them.
Extra Skill[]
Sword Beam: Tapping the Extra Skill button will cause Link to point his Magical Sword forwards and fire off a glowing white sword beam which can travel about as far as half of Final Destination’s length. Sword Beams aren’t actually all that strong dealing a small amount of damage and knockback, however they travel fairly fast and are great at interrupting attacks. Holding down the Extra Skill button will allow Link to fire a sword beam omnidirectionally around Link which makes it rather versatile. If Link has 10% or less damage when he fires a sword beam then the attack is quite a bit stronger dealing an increased amount of damage and knockback. Additionally, in this state when the sword beam hits something it will create four smaller beams that fly off diagonally from each corner of where the initial sword beam hit something. These sword beam fragments barely travel anywhere and pretty much only have a chance to hit something if it’s in melee range of the initial hit. Each of these fragments deals a minor amount of damage and absolutely minimal knockback, but every little bit can help.
Unique Traits[]
Link is capable of Wall Jumping. So long as Link is standing still, walking, or crouching, any projectiles that hit Link's Magical Shield will be negated causing Link to receive 0 damage and only minorly push him back a step. It doesn't matter how big or powerful the projectile is, Link's Magical Shield can stop it in its tracks.
