Stage Info[]
Jabberwock Island is the site of the Killing School Trip and despite its name is actually six islands with one small island surrounded by five larger ones. Bridges connect these islands together and each of them feature their own special locales such as a park, corral, pharmacy, movie theater, amusement park, and military base. During the events of the Killing School Trip, the students of Hope’s Peak Academy were only allowed to travel on Central Island and First Island. That is until the students experienced their first Class Trial and earned the right to access Second Island. This would begin a pattern of murders, Class Trials, and new islands being discovered until the end of the Killing School Trip.
Stage Design[]
Stage Layout[]
Jabberwock Island is divided into six different layouts, one for each of its islands. Each layout is grounded with walk offs to either side, however the platform arrangement for each island is where the differences lie. Central Island features no additional platforms. First Island has one platform in the center. Second Island has two platforms with one on the left and one on the right. Third Island has three platforms with one towards the bottom center and the other two higher in the air off to the left and right. Fourth Island features an off-center platform placement with the bottom two platforms skewed towards the right and the top two platforms skewed towards the left. Fifth Island features five platforms arranged in an X-pattern.
Battles on Jabberwock Island always start on Central Island and after a short time the screen will transition to one of the other five islands. The island that the stage transitions to is randomly determined and islands can be visited in any order. This includes Central Island. You may have matches that start on Central Island, go to Fourth Island, then go back to Central Island. Or you could have a match start on Central Island and never return.
Scrolling background
While this stage is stationary, it does have a roaming aspect to it. In the background one of the students from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair will be seen running in the background. This student can be any of the 16 students from the game, however if one of them is being used in the fight such as Hajime Hinata, that student will not be the one seen running in the background. The background itself will scroll as the student is seen running on the island which allows the fighters to see the various locales that can be found on each island and simulates how the player goes from place to place in the actual game.
This stage also has six dangerous (and one friendly) hazard that can appear. When the battle first begins nothing crazy will happen, however there is a chance that one of these hazards will appear each time the stage transitions from one island to the next. Fear not however as these creatures can not only be destroyed for a KO point, but if one appears you are guaranteed to be safe from their threat the next time the stage transitions giving the players a bit of a break. The one exception to this is Usami who can appear regardless of if you just had to deal with one of the five Monobeasts.
Hazards[]
Usami[]
When Usami makes her appearance on the stage she’ll wave her magic stick and fly around the stage with rainbows following behind her. On her own, Usami doesn’t actually do anything to affect the battle. That being said, Usami can be attacked and defeated. Unlike the Monobeasts, defeating Usami won’t reward the player with a KO Point. Instead, that player will receive the power of Usami’s magic stick as they are surrounded in a rainbow aura. For the next 10 seconds that player will have increased stats across the board making them a dangerous threat and one to be avoided. Usami can only be encountered on Central Island.
Tiger Monobeast[]
The Tiger Monobeast will announce its presence with a roar as it lands on the stage from above. The Tiger Monobeast is capable of firing laser blasts from the cannon on its back as well as charging forwards and whipping its spiked tail around to hit players. While the tail is it’s weakest attack, it does come out the fastest. Meanwhile the laser takes some time to charge up, but can be devastating. The Tiger Monobeast’s weak point is the front of its head where it will take an increased amount of damage. The Tiger Monobeast can only be encountered on First Island.
Snake Monobeast[]
The Snake Monobeast will announce its presence with a sharp hissing sound as it slitters in from the background of the stage. The Snake Monobeast is capable of spitting out orbs of acid, whipping its body around in a wide circle against the ground, and lunging forward with its fangs. Jumping attacks are the best recommendation against the Snake Monobeast’s swiping attack and the acid shot is considered particularly dangerous as it will splash onto the stage and hang around for a few seconds as a puddle of acid which can deal constant damage if a player stays in it. The Snake Monobeast’s weak point is the back of its tail where it will take an increased amount of damage. The Snake Monobeast can only be encountered on Second Island.
Eagle Monobeast[]
The Eagle Monobeast will announce its presence with a sharp cry as it flies in on the stage from above. Unlike the other Monobeasts, the Eagle Monobeast stays airborne and will fly around the stage. The Eagle Monobeast can attack by swooping through the air as it flies about as well by breathing fire out in a cone attack. The Eagle Monobeast is also capable of a screeching attack which stuns fighters who are next to the Monobeast. The Eagle Monobeast’s weak points are its wings where it will take an increased amount of damage. The Eagle Monobeast can only be encountered on Third Island.
Horse Monobeast[]
The Horse Monobeast will announce its presence with a lough neigh as it runs in from offscreen. The Horse Monobeast is capable of charging forwards and running into the others as well as lunging forwards for a headbutt. The Horse Monobeast also has a ranged projectile where it can throw its mane like a sweeping boomerang which travels around the stage in a wide arc. The Horse Monobeast’s weak point are its hind legs where it will take an increased amount of damage. The Horse Monobeast can only be encountered on Fourth Island.
Gorilla Monobeast[]
The Gorilla Monobeast will announce its presence with a wild beating of its chest as it falls down onto the stage from above. The Gorilla Monobeast is capable of performing a smashing attack where it jumps around the stage and stomps on the ground, a hurricane kick similar to Ryu’s Tatsumaki Senpuyaku, as well as picking up large rocks and chucking them across the screen. The Gorilla Monobeast’s weakpoint is its head where it will take an increased amount of damage. The Gorilla Monobeast can only be encountered on Fifth Island.
