Character Info[]
The Inkling, one of the primary creatures seen in Splatoon seems to have evolved from squids to become the creatures they are now after a cataclysmic event killed all humans some time in the distant past. Their two primary goals seem to be to take part in the popular sporting event “Turf Wars” as well as making sure they've got the freshest look in all of Inkopolis. Notable Inklings include the Squid Sisters Callie & Marie as well as the mysterious Hero known only as Agent 3 who helped return the Great Zapfish to Inkopolis and defeat DJ Octavio.
General Information[]
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: The Inkling will pull out the special Rainmaker item and raise it high above their head as a golden sparkly light shines down upon it.
Down Taunt: The Inkling will pull out a fake Zapfish doll and begins stroking it like the most precious object in the world.
Side Taunt: The Inkling will pull out a Splattershot and twirl it around on it's finger before striking a quick pose and putting the weapon away.
Entrance[]
Before the match begins a puddle of ink the same color as your inkling will be splattered on the stage. The Inkling will then jump out of the puddle in squid form and transforming into kid form after exiting the ink.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will wear the Inkling's hair style in the color of that Inkling's costume.
Victory Poses[]
- With the Splattershot, the Inkling will shoot their color of ink all around the victory screen before splatting the camera and completely blocking it out.
- With the Splat Dualies in hand, the Inkling will perform a short breakdance before ending in this pose.
- With the Splat Roller, the Inkling will come running in diagonally from the background as they ink the ground. After disappearing into the foreground, the Inkling will then continue their attack coming in from the side and stopping right in the middle of the screen swinging the paint roller over their shoulder.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Splatterscope: The Inkling will pull out their Splatterscope weapon and start looking down the sight. At this point the player can hold down the button to charge up their attack. The longer you charge the attack, the farther the Splatterscope will fire a line of ink forward (and pierce through objects and players, but not walls) and hurt anyone who is in the ink path. You don't have to charge up this weapon to use it, but rapid consecutive use will decrease the damage and range severely.
Side Special[]
Ninja Squid: Similar to Greninja's Shadow Sneak, a puddle of ink will quickly appear below the Inkling just in time for the Inkling to change into Squid form and dive down into the ink. The Inkling can then stealthily swim forward. You can tell where the Inkling currently is by the small streaks of ink moving across the screen. The farther you hold down the buttons for this attack the farther the Inkling can swim up to a max distance. When you let go of the buttons an ink puddle will appear where the Inkling is before they jump out of the ink puddle and resume their kid form and swing forwards with the last Splatoon weapon that they used in a previous attack. This can result in a slight variance in range and power of the final hit.
Up Special[]
Super Jump: The Inkling will change into squid form and huddle down against the ground before quickly propelling itself high into the air at a similar distance and speed to Pit's Up Special. If used in the air there is minimal delay in initiating the jump after the Inkling changes into a squid. Enemy players can be damaged when coming in contact with the Inkling as they jump up into the air. At the height of the Super Jump, the Inkling will resume kid form and can perform more attacks.
Down Special[]
Bubbler: Activating one of it's Special Weapons, the Inkling will surround itself in a sparkling protective barrier. The Bubbler shield is only up for a quick second but when it is up the Inkling can reflect back projectile attacks that hit the Inkling as well as stun and push back an opponent that hits the Inkling with a melee attack. Be careful of spamming the Bubbler however as rapid repeated use of it can cause it to break under the pressure of enemy attacks making it unable to be used for a short time.
Final Smash[]
Inkstrike: The massive Inkstrike will be loaded up on the Inkling's back. A brief second or two later the missile will fire off into the sky and allowing the Inkling to move about the stage once again attacking foes at their pleasure. Sometime between 5-10 seconds later an audio cue will make itself known before a raining torrent of ink will spiral down on the stage centering itself over the position where the Inkling initially stood when they activated their Final Smash. The Inkstike's blast radius will be a little bit bigger than the overall radius of Ness' PK Starstorm in Smash 4 however unlike PK Starstorm you can't move the blast around. Anyone caught in the attack is taking constant damage inside the Inkstrike and the attack will attempt to keep the enemies trapped inside to deal more and more damage however if players fight through it they can escape the Inkstrike's onslaught of ink.
Extra Skill[]
Tenacity: When activated, depending on the amount of players that have a score higher than the Inkling's score (Whether that's Kill/Death ratio in Time mode, Stocks in Stock mode, or money in Coin mode) the Inkling will receive a boost to it's attack damage for a short time. The more players that have a score higher than the Inkling's the greater this bonus will be. However! There is a careful balance applied here because if it was just a flat bonus applied per character then this skill would be near useless in a 1v1 match and potentially godlike in an 8-player Free For All. The exact strength and balance of this attack bonus is not something I can determine. I leave that up to the developers to figure out.
