Character Info[]
Geralt is a witcher—a warrior who has undergone extensive training, conditioning, and rituals in preparation for their role as a monster-slaying mercenary. He is said to hail from Rivia, but in truth was left by his mother in Visenna before training under Vesemir at the School of the Wolf in Kaer Morhen. The tales of his relationships with the sorceress Yennefer and his child surprise, Ciri, have become something of legend—perhaps in due thanks to the efforts of one particular spoony bard. Geralt's skills as a witcher surmount most in their history, expressing an abnormally high tolerance for mutagens. These rendered his hair white, but gave him an advantage in speed, strength, and stamina above his witcher contemporaries.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Geralt rides into frame on his trusted steed, Roach. Roach is actually the name that Geralt gives all of his horses. Ergo, Roach may appear as either a chestnut brown horse with white markings, or a pure dark brown or light gray color. As he slips off of Roach, he'll pat them on the neck and say "good girl, Roach" or "good boy, Roach."
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby dons Geralt's iconic white hair, as well as miniature versions of his silver and steel blades mounted on his back.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Geralt will lift one of his two swords from out of its mount and observe it. He will gaze upon his steel blade first. When the taunt is used again, it will be his silver blade. While lifting his steel blade, he'll say, "Steel for humans..." When lifting his silver blade, he'll say, "Silver for monsters..."
Down Taunt: Geralt pulls out his Gwent deck, picking some up with one hand and dropping them back into the base with the other. Or, he might grip onto the deck and shuffle the cards more traditionally. He'll either say, "How about some Gwent?" or "Go for a round of cards?"
Side Taunt: Geralt's Witcher medallion will begin to hum, visibly shaking over his chest. He'll grab onto it and say either, "Medallion's humming..." or "Something's nearby..."
Victory Poses[]
- Roach rears up towards the camera, and Geralt pats their neck while saying, "Roach, easy!" The horse stands and brays.
- Roach runs forward with Geralt mounted on top. As the duo approaches the camera, Geralt leaps from off of his mount with a loud grunt as he slashes down with one of his swords.
- Geralt uses the Axii sign while looking towards the camera. The camera tilts downward, looking towards Geralt's feet from a diagonal as he approaches it, saying, "That's right... Sleep."
- Geralt sits at a small wooden table, dimly lit by candlelight, with the second place finisher sitting across from him. Rows of Gwent cards are spread across the table, as if a game is about to begin. With his elbows rested on the table and his hands beneath his chin, he beckons of the other fighter: "Gwent... How about it?"
- Dandelion, Geralt's bard companion, appears beside a visibly annoyed witcher. Geralt walks by, rubbing his forehead in agony as Dandelion sings a verse from his popular tune, "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher".
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Crossbow: Geralt retrieves his crossbow, shooting a bolt outwards. He can slightly angle the tilt of the crossbow upwards or downwards at the start of the move. The bolt will travel a meager distance and dish out meager damage, somewhere between one of Link's arrows that has been fully charged and a standard shot. Charge this move, and not only will the bolt travel a much more impressive distance, but it will become a fire bolt, as well! If the fire bolt hits the ground, its flames will tend to linger for a second or two. If it hits an opponent, well, it'll dish out some decent damage.
Side Special[]
Sign: Geralt begins to make a sign, and there's a slight moment of slowdown as he meditates on his part to allow the player to place their input. Simply allowing the side special to carry out without any additional inputs will see Geralt cast Aard, stamping forward and shooting a gust of compressed air forward. This shoves opponents back and easily knocks back most projectiles, although damage dealt by the move tends to be minimal. It can be charged, allowing for slightly greater damage and knockback.
Moving the directional output upwards following the initial side special command will see Geralt initiate Igni. He will stand in place, holding his hand out as flames billow forward. It is effectively a smaller, more concentrated burst of energy similar to Bowser's Fire Breath, and lasts about as long before its use wears out.
Moving the direction output downwards following the initial side special command will have Geralt perform Yrden. He will press his hand towards the ground, summoning a pillar of pulsing purple light about as tall and as wide as a Healing Field. Any opponents or projectiles that enter this forcefield will see considerable slowdown, and the effects of their attacks will be lessened, dealing about 2/3 of what they normally would so long as they connect while inside of Yrden. Yrden will dissipate after around seven seconds.
Up Special[]
Aard Ascension: Geralt thrusts his arm downward. In one, clean motion, he rises upwards several feet with the assistance of Aard. Much like the Aard that he can cast in his side special, the pulse of air doesn't cause notable damage, but it does billow forward in either direction as Geralt lunges into the air, pushing opponents back by a fair degree. The move might be especially devastating in mid-air, as it packs just enough of a concentrated punch to become a meteor smash in the right atmosphere. Press the special attack button during Geralt's ascension, and he will come twirling straight down in a swift, barbaric spin of both of his blades.
Down Special[]
Witcher Bomb: Geralt ignites one of three bombs and holds it in his hand before deciding to toss it. This operation is functionally very similar to Link's, although the bombs might hit an opponent before going off moments later, as Snake's grenades might. Geralt will use either a Dancing Star, Northern Wind, or Devil's Puffball bomb—both powerful options that witchers have up their disposal, and both with differing properties. Dancing Star is a standard bomb, exploding in a flurry of tinier firework-like bursts that deal about half as much the power and knockback as a Bob-omb. Northern Wind is its snowy cousin, exploding in a burst of ice that will probably freeze opponents as it sends them flying! The Devil's Puffball explodes in a burst of green smog that will remain on-stage for several seconds following impact. Anyone within the smog's range will be dealt consistent poison damage for a set period of time that is dependent upon a few factors, including their damage percentage, length of exposure to the smog, and if they were hit by the initial blast. The bombs will cycle through in this order as Geralt procures them.
Final Smash[]
Axii: Geralt signs Axii and casts it out in a thin, white ray directly in front of him while shouting "Stop!" or "Axii!" Anyone within range of Axii will do exactly as Geralt commands, paralyzed into place by the potent, persuasive sign and wrapped in that same white light as they are, hypnotized and blank-faced. Geralt will take this moment to unleash a flurry of slashes at them with both blades, ending with an Igni sign that bursts into a great flame at the center of the attack, setting them aflame and flying. Geralt will slip back into his standard battle stance, ready to continue the fight.
Extra Skills[]
Steel and Silver: Press the up input alongside the shield button, and Geralt will swap between his steel and silver blades while in the midst of battle. His steel blade is a little more sluggish than the silver sword, but tends to deal more damage. His silver blade offers the inverse—a quicker draw, but less damage on the average. The blades will also deal slightly more or less damage to certain enemy types. Hit Mario, Ike, or Leon S. Kennedy with the steel blade, and they'll be dealt a little more damage than Kirby, Pikachu, or Olimar would with the same blade. Hit the latter party with the silver blade, and they'll be dealt a little more damage than the former would with it. There's also a slight chance that these blades could trigger a critical hit if they're dealt upon the right character type. Play around with it and see what works best against who!
Potions and Decoctions: Press the down input alongside the shield button, and a cyclical menu akin to Shulk's Monado Arts menu will appear above Geralt. In circular icons surrounding the witcher will be multiple potions and decoctions: Black Blood, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Griffin Decoction, and Ancient Leshen Decoction. Select one, and Geralt will obtain the vial and down the drink. For 15 seconds following the use of a potion or decoction, the solution will be grayed out on the menu and cannot be chosen. These potions and decoctions are stackable, but fall into a toxicity mechanic.
A gauge beneath Geralt's character portrait will fill up to three times. Each potion or decoction consumed will fill up one of three bars in the gauge. Consuming one potion or decoction will bear no effect, but stacking two will deal 10% damage to Geralt when taken, and a third will deal 15% additional damage to Geralt once taken. Furthermore, if Geralt's toxicity is at two bars, he will be damaged 1.2x more by any attack than he otherwise would. If Geralt's toxicity is at three bears, he will be damaged 1.5x more by any attack than he otherwise would. Toxicity decreases by one bar every ten seconds, as do the effects of a potion or decoction. The potion/decoction effects will dissolve in the order that they were taken.
Black Blood causes opponents to take a quarter of the damage that they had inflicted upon impact with Geralt. This accounts for any form of attack, from melee, to projectiles, to item-based attacks, and only bears exception to attacks dished out to an Assist Trophy or Pokemon that the fighter in question had summoned.
Blizzard increases Geralt's movement speed by 1.3x, and allows him to fall faster and dish out quicker attacks without sacrificing power. It also tinges his melee attacks with ice effects and could freeze opponents if Geralt lands a critical hit. Geralt's lighter movements do come at the expense of making him a little less heavy, though.
Thunderbolt increases Geralt's attack power by 1.5x and gives him additional frames of super armor during attacks.
The Ancient Leshen decoction causes the power of Geralt's signs to increase. Aard now travels on either side of Geralt in his side special, and propels him further upwards in his up special. Igni will last longer and can travel further, and Yrden will cause stronger slowdown on enemies, their attacks, and their summons. Even Geralt's shield, Quen, will see a slight buff.
The Griffin decoction grants Geralt super armor for the duration of its use at the expense of slowing him down some. It also applauds combos, increasing damage dealt by any third attack in a row and so on.
Unique Traits[]
Geralt is also able to crawl by means similar to Ezio Auditore, crouched down in an assassin's position and slowly walking about. While using his shield, Geralt will actually cast Quen, the shield sign.
