Assist Trophy Info[]
As his name implies, the Gatekeeper keeps watch over the Garreg Mach Monastery's gates. Despite his status as an unnamed NPC, he is given ample affection by the Fire Emblem fanbase for his humorous dialogue with Byleth, Constance, and Balthus. Dutiful, if not the best at his job, the unassuming Gatekeeper does maintain a political stance. If Edelgard takes over the monastery, he will depart and be replaced by his identical brother. Also named Gatekeeper, this soldier is less loyal to the Church of Seiros.
Mode of Assistance[]
A large gate reminiscent of the front entrance to Garreg Mach Monastery stands tall behind Gatekeeper. Even in Smash, he dutifully maintains his post! The gate stands at about twice the height as Ridley when he stands straight. As the fight goes on, Gatekeeper will cheer on the fighter who summoned him, shouting affirmative phrases like, "Let's go!" and "You can do it!" every time that they land a hit. Conversely, he'll shout against other fighters when they land a hit on whoever summoned him. When any other fighter appears within the "wingspan" of his gate, Gatekeeper will tap down on the ground with his lance and shout, "Open the gate!" Suddenly, both doors swing open, and a dozen cats and dogs filter out from it in either direction before disappearing after traveling several feet. The animals deal out minor, persistent damage, although the gate will dish out that much more. It's powerful enough to nearly shieldbreak, so simply putting one up won't do unless an opponent wants to be stunned. Sometimes, Gatekeeper will equip a javelin and throw it towards opponents from afar, dishing out decent piercing damage if it lands. This will only happen once during the 10 seconds that he remains on-stage, if at all.
