Character Info[]
Renowned photojournalist Frank West was determined to land his next big scoop during a zombie outbreak in Willamette, Colorado, launching a solo investigation inside the Willamette Parkview Mall. He managed to rescue many survivors while also dealing with dangerous psychopaths, military forces and a countless number of the undead. Frank’s coverage led to overnight fame and great publicity (for a while), and dragged the government’s involvement in the incident into the public eye. Unfortunately, Frank was bitten during his escape and requires regular use of the drug Zombrex to stave off infection as he seeks out new scoops.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Frank shoves a zombie away, quickly brushing himself off as he turns to face his opponent.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby gains Frank’s short dark-brown hair
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Frank holds up his camera and gestures to it. “I’ve covered wars, y’know!”
Down Taunt: Frank brings out his transceiver and holds it up to his ear before putting it away. Sometimes he’ll say something like “Otis? Kinda busy right now”, or “Uhhh, lemme call you back.”
Side Taunt: Frank pulls out a carton of juice and takes a gulp.
Victory Poses[]
- Frank takes takes a few dramatic shots from different angles, then holds up his index finger. He’ll either say “Perfect!”, “Alright!” or “Faaantastic!”
- Frank sneaks up on a zombie and grabs it in a headlock; the view switches to Frank’s camera as he takes a selfie with his undead friend.
- Frank lays down on a couch to get some rest (based on his animation when saving in Dead Rising’s security room).
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Snapshot: Frank holds up his camera and snaps a picture. A flash of light bursts from the camera, which can cause opponents to flinch if they are close enough. Taking a picture of a nearby opponent will net Frank some EXP in order to level up (see Extra Skill section); bonus EXP is awarded if Frank snaps a picture of an opponent who is suffering from hit-stun, shield break, statuses like frozen/paralysis/tiny, etc., or is taunting.
Side Special[]
Blue Light Special: Frank whips out a shopping cart decked out with chainsaws and other weapons, charging forward to hit opponents and drag them along with him. He can continue this move until the button is pressed again (or until he hits a wall), making Frank come to a stop before his cart vanishes.
Up Special[]
Face Crusher: Frank leaps up and attempts to grab an opponent by the scruff of their neck. This acts as a command grab similar to Captain Falcon’s Falcon Dive. Upon successfully grabbing an opponent, Frank rises a slight distance before plummeting down and slamming the opponent’s face into the ground to send them flying away. If unsuccessful, Frank can still use aerial attacks on the way down.
Down Special[]
Servbot Blinder: A Servbot Helmet appears in Frank’s Hands as he swings it down in front of him. If the helmet connects with an opponent’s head it will get stuck, blinding them and reversing their controls for a few seconds. The opponent can wiggle the control stick side-to-side to shake off the helmet more quickly.
Final Smash[]
The Scoop of a Lifetime: Frank pulls out a sledgehammer and slams it into the ground, causing any opponents in front to be bounced upward and trapping the one with the highest damage in a cinematic finisher. The opponent, with Frank following, lands atop a tank surrounded by zombies. As the opponent stands up, Frank bombards them with several blinding snapshots before kicking them off the tank into the crowd of zombies; the camera tracks their fall in a slow-mo shot from above (reminiscent of Dead Rising’s final battle with Brock Mason) before they disappear into the horde and are dealt massive damage. If the damage exceeds 100% they’ll be instantly eaten— er, KO’d.
Extra Skill[]
Tools of Survival: Frank’s ‘Level’ is displayed above his damage percentage; taking snapshots with Frank’s camera will let him gain EXP. With enough EXP Frank’s Level will increase, each one requiring more EXP to reach the maximum Level of 5. Higher Levels will upgrade the weapons used in Frank’s strong and aerial attacks, dealing increased damage/knockback and covering more range. If Frank gets KO’d his Level will reset back to Level 1.
Power Push: This skill gives Frank a chance of escaping a grab early. If grabbed by an opponent, repeatedly tap the stick in the direction facing away from them; if done quickly enough Frank will shove the opponent away, dealing a small amount of damage and avoiding being thrown. Due to Frank’s experience fending off the clutches of countless zombified shoppers, it’s tough to keep a hold on him for long.
