Character Info[]
When his father James McCloud was betrayed by a teammate and killed, Fox was still just a cadet at the Cornerian Defense Army Academy. Despite his age, he took up the mantle of leadership at the suggestion of his father’s friend Peppy Hare and recruited Falco Lombardi and Slippy Toad to join the Star Fox team. The team would see some changes over the years, but Fox’s leadership and combat capabilities would see the team through the Lylat Wars, Saurian Incident, and the Aparoid Invasion amongst other galactic threats.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Fox's Arwing will fly in from the background and perform a barrel roll as Fox leaps out of it and lands on the stage.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will have Fox’s fox ears on top of his head as well as wear Fox’s helmet around his body.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Flames will quickly surround Fox as if he were using to charge up his energy as Fox utters a short yell and says, “Let’s go!”
Down Taunt: Fox will kneel down on one foot and make a beckoning gesture forwards saying, “Come on!”
Side Taunt: Fox will toss his blaster just barely over his head before catching it as it falls down and twirls the gun in hand before reholstering it.
Victory Poses[]
- Fox will start out pointing his blaster off to the right before pulling it back and spinning the trigger around his finger. The pose ends with Fox placing his blaster back into its holster and looking off towards the left. During this animation Fox will say, “This is Fox. Returning to base.”
- Fox will first aim his blaster right and then left before refocusing and pointing his blaster off-center towards the screen saying “Mission complete!”
- Fox will stand with his back mostly towards the screen as he crosses his arms, flicks his tail behind him, and looks back over his shoulder at the screen.
For any of his victory poses Fox may replace the spoken line with “Better luck next time, Falco” if Falco was present in the match or "Not today Wolf" if Wolf was present in the match.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Blaster: Fox will pull out his blaster and begin to rapid-fire it sending long red lasers flying across the screen. These lasers are very fast, however they do a small amount of damage and no knockback or flinch. Additionally, the lasers get even weaker the further they have to travel to hit an opponent. Best used for hitting an opponent’s shield or just trying to deal as much damage as possible while being farther away.
Side Special[]
Fox Illusion: Fox will dash forward at such a blisteringly fast speed that he leaves afterimages of himself behind him. This move has a decent amount of knockback and sends opponents up into the air, however it stops hard if the opponent is shielding. The damage of this move when used in the air is a little bit weaker than when used on the ground, but it works well for trying to recover back to the stage.
Up Special[]
Fire Fox: With a yell, Fox will surround himself in flames and launch himself forwards as if he were a human Arwing. While the flames are surrounding Fox, the control stick can be tilted in any direction to affect what direction this move sends Fox in. The initial flames can deal minor damage to opponents, but considerably more damage when Fox slams into an opponent with the actual attack. Like Fox Illusion, this move can be used to recover with great effect, however Fox will be sent into a state of freefall at the end of it.
Down Special[]
Reflector: Fox will activate his Reflector as a blue hexagonal energy field projects from his body. This Reflector will reflect all projectiles that hit it sending them back where they came from. The projectile is sent back at a faster speed than it moved initially and deals 1.4x it’s initial damage. The Reflector itself is also capable of doing damage if Fox is right next to an opponent, but this damage is very minimal.
Final Smash[]
Landmaster: With a cry of “Landmaster!”, Fox’s Landmaster will be warped into the battle right next to him as Fox jumps inside of it. At this point the player can angle the Landmaster’s laser cannon up and down as it begins to charge up energy. After a couple seconds of charge up, the cannon will be locked into place as it fires a massive beam of energy which pierces through all obstacles and defenses. This laser traps opponents and deals massive damage and knockback to them. After a few seconds of continuous fire, the laser will be cut off to prevent the Landmaster from overheating as any hit opponents are sent flying away and Fox jumps back out of the Landmaster and sees it get warped away.
Extra Skill[]
Plasma Cannon: Fox will pull out the Plasma Cannon and heft it over his shoulders. At this point the Plasma Cannon effectively replaces Fox’s Blaster as his Standard Special as it takes the Special button to fire. The Plasma Cannon is stronger than Fox’s Blaster in terms of both damage and actually doing knockback. The size of the plasma shot is a little bit bigger than the blaster Wolf uses and players can hold the special button to angle the direction of the Plasma Cannon will fire in up to 45 degrees by tilting the control stick up or down. Players can rapidly fire the Plasma Cannon by tapping the special button immediately after firing it the first time to keep the shots moving at the same angle. The tradeoff is that the plasma fire is considerably slower than Fox’s Blaster and is more on par with Wolf’s blaster. Additionally this Plasma Cannon can only be fired up to five times per stock. After the fifth shot Fox will automatically put the Plasma Cannon away. The Plasma Cannon can also be put away manually by pressing the Extra Skill button again to conserve some of its shots for later.
Unique Traits[]
When fighting on the Corneria stage, Fox can perform a special taunt where he crouches down and speaks into a device before being able to resume fighting. This triggers special dialogue with other members of the Star Fox team, including allies like Katt Monroe and Bill Grey, talking amongst themselves and with Fox about the team, Smash, and some of his opponents.
Fox is also capable of Wall Jumping.
