Character Info[]
Eons ago, there was a hunter, a dog, and a bunch of ducks. The dog would jump into some bushes and disturb a bunch of ducks as the hunter took aim with his NES Zapper to blast the ducks from afar. If the hunter did well the ducks would fall from the sky and into the dog’s hands. But if a duck managed to escape the hunter… the dog would rise up out of the bushes and laugh at the hunter’s failure. In the years since there seems to be some sort of new understanding as the dog (and one of the ducks) have teamed up to fight alongside each other in the realm of Smash as the hunter supports them from beyond the screen.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
An 8-bit patch of grass will be on the stage which the dog will leap into from the side. The Dog will then pop out its head from above the grass and laugh mischievously like it does in Duck Hunt before the grass poofs away.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will have the dog’s floppy ears on the sides of his head as well as the dog’s nose on the front of his face. A little plastic duck figurine will also sit on top of Kirby’s head.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: The dog will perform a frontal handstand while the duck balances on one of its hind legs on top of the dog and quack negatively towards the other fighters.
Down Taunt: The dog will stand up on its black legs and do a little dance as the duck quacks in time with the dance.
Side Taunt: The dog will lay down on its side as it laughs, while the duck flies next to him with a taunting motion towards the other fighters.
Victory Poses[]
- The bottom of the screen will be covered with a large patch of 8-bit grass. After a brief moment the dog will appear to point and laugh at the camera. After another couple moments pass, the duck will appear out of the grass next to the dog and mimic its laughter and pointing.
- The dog and duck will run onto the screen from the left as a can from Hogan’s Alley bounces towards the center. The dog will run a bit past the can before quickly turning back to kick the can away from offscreen. The dog will follow this up by striking a pose as it stands on its left hind leg and raises his right while bringing his front legs towards himself, almost like he’s about to run on his hind legs.
- The dog will summon out a Wild Gunman to its left and then right as both shoot off screen as the Dog holes its summoning pose.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Trick Shot: The dog will kick forward a tin can from Hogan’s Alley. This can is explosive and subsequent standard special inputs will cause a shot from an off-screen NES Zapper to hit the can and knock it forward a short distance, and a little up into the air. After 9 button presses, the car will begin to emit smoke before exploding moments later. The can can also be knocked around by both Duck Hunt’s attacks and the attacks of other fighters. The can will also explode if a set amount of time passes without the 9th shot happening, but unlike other explosive-based items it will not automatically explode if hit by a fire attack or another explosive.
Side Special[]
Clay Shooting: The dog will toss a clay pigeon disc which flies through the air in one of two trajectories. The first is a slow toss with a higher arc that’s performed by moving while activating the special while the second is a faster toss with a straight arc if the special is activated while Duck Hunt is standing still. Pressing the special button again will cause an off-screen NES Zapper to hit the clay pigeon five times in rapid succession which destroys the disc. The clay pigeon itself, as well as each shot from the NES Zapper will all inflict damage with each shot dealing a little more damage than the last.
Up Special[]
Duck Jump: The duck will fly up into the air as he carries the dog up with it by the ass. This flight can be angled as the duck flies to a decent degree which allows the Duck Hunt a good recovery move. Duck Hunt can end this move early by attacking or dodging, but doing so will put them in the helpless state immediately afterwards.
Down Special[]
Wild Gunman: The dog will gesture forwards and summon a 8-bit version of one of the dive gunmen from Wild Gunman. After a set amount of time, the gunman will fire their gun forwards before disappearing in a puff of smoke. Each of the gunmen operate slightly differently and depending on which gunman is summoned the firing time, damage, knockback, and launch angle will all vary. The gunmen can also be used to block attacks for Duck Hunt, but if a gunman takes 5% damage or more they will fall down and not fire their gun. Once a gunman has fallen, Duck Hunt will have to wait a brief amount of time before they can summon out another gunman.
Final Smash[]
NES Zapper Posse: The dog will bark out an order as a flock of 8-bit ducks fly in from the foreground and through the space in front of Duck Hunt, ideally tackling into an opposing fighter and knocking them into a cinematic cutscene. Affected fighters will find themselves in the Wild West, styled like in Wild Gunman. The fighters will then be repeatedly fired out by the five gunmen, who just so happen to also be shooting at cardboard cutouts of gangsters and tin cans from Hogan’s Alley which are just past the fighters. When the gunmen are done firing the fighters will be sent flying through the air past the gangsters and cans and out of the cinematic as they then fly through the air on the stage.
Extra Skill[]
Duck Hunts: The Duck will separate from the Dog and begin to fly just above them. The Duck will keep pace with the Dog as it runs/jumps around the stage as it keeps an eye out to help defend the Dog in battle. If another fighter gets near the Dog, the Duck will fly towards them and tackle into them to disrupt their attack and knock them back away from the dog with a weak attack. The Duck can only stay separated from the Dog for a short time and once that time is up it will return to the Dog’s back and can’t separate itself again for some time. This Extra Skill can be ended prematurely by either pressing the input again or using the Up Special.
Unique Traits[]
Duck Hunt and crawl along the stage and wall jump.
