Character Info[]

First they were carpenters, then they became plumbers, and now Luigi has followed his brother into the role being a Doctor. At first Luigi still wore his trademark cap along with his doctor’s coat, but when the Mushroom Kingdom was in serious need of a Miracle Cure, Dr. Luigi got a bit more serious in the role and traded out his cap for a head mirror of his own. While Dr. Mario treats his patients with singular Megavitamins, Dr. Luigi prefers a more forceful approach by applying a double dosage of Megavitamins using his trademark L-shaped blister packs.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

A small wall of Megavitamins will be seen on screen before they begin to disappear Megavitamin by Megavitamin revealing that Dr. Luigi was behind them the whole time looking worried. Compared to Dr. Mario’s Entrance, the Megavitamins for Dr. Luigi’s entrance are colored cyan, magenta, and yellow as they are in Dr. Luigi

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby will wear Dr. Luigi’s head mirror around his head. To set it apart from the Kirby Hat for Dr. Mario, the headband for this Kirby Hat is green with the mirror being slightly smaller in size.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Dr. Luigi will face towards the screen and stand confidently with his arms placed on his hips as a brilliant shine effect flashes across his head mirror.

Down Taunt: One of Dr. Luigi’s Viruses will jump out of his coat. This Virus will point at Luigi and laugh at him briefly as if mocking Dr. Luigi’s very existence.

Side Taunt: One of Dr. Luigi’s L-shaped Megavitamins will fall out of his coat and roll down his leg which Luigi will kick up into the air and catch with his hand.

Victory Poses[]

  1. Wearing his defibrillator paddles, Dr. Luigi will perform a good ‘ol one-two punch towards the screen.
  2. Dr. Luigi will hold his stethoscope in one hand as he swings it left to right and back again in a threatening manner.
  3. Dr. Luigi will be seen with a concerned look on his face as he makes some notes on a clipboard about the injuries his opponents just suffered.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Megavitamins: Similar to Luigi and his classic Fireballs, Dr. Luigi can toss Megavitamins at his opponents. Dr. Luigi’s Megavitamins cannot be absorbed and unlike Luigi’s fireballs are affected by gravity. Dr. Luigi’s Megavitamins bounce lower compared to Dr. Mario’s, however they travel farther with a single bounce. The trade off though is that they only bounce once along the stage and the next time they hit the stage they’ll disappear. Much like in Operation L, the Megavitamins that Dr. Luigi tosses aren’t just a single Megavitamin, but are in fact a pair of Megavitamins held together in a blister pack in the shape of an L. While the knockback from these Megavitamins are negligible, it does come with an additional modifier to the move’s hit stun. Like with Dr. Mario, the damage from each Megavitamin is variable and dependent on what four colors each Megavitamin is made up of. Like in the Dr. Luigi game, Dr. Luigi’s Megavitamins are different colors than Dr. Mario’s. A Yellow half is worth 1% damage, a Cyan half is worth 1.5% damage, and a Magenta half is worth 2% damage. This means that if a Yellow-Cyan-Cyan-Magenta Megavitamin hits a player they’ll be dealt 6% damage while a Magenta-Yellow-Cyan-Magenta Megavitamin hits a player they’ll be dealt 6.5% damage.

Side Special[]

Defibrillator: From his coat, Dr. Luigi will pull out a set of green defibrillator paddles and hold them in his hands as he lets out a medium-sized electric blast in front of him. Alternatively, Dr. Luigi can charge this move which will show him rubbing the defibrillator paddles against each other with little sparks emitting from them. These sparks will get more intense the longer Dr. Luigi charges this move. Naturally, the longer this move is charged the more damage it does on release and at full charge it is capable of breaking shields and sending opponents flying. At lower levels of charge the move is still capable of draining shields, but only if they are already weakened.

This move takes longer to charge than Dr. Mario’s version of this move, but with the trade-off of dealing more damage. Be careful when charging this move however, if you try charging much further past the maximum then the defibrillator paddles will instead backfire. If this occurs Dr. Luigi will be covered in a puff of smoke as he takes a medium amount of damage. Additionally, if this move backfires then Dr. Luigi will be unable to use it for about 10 seconds.

Up Special[]

Stretcher: Whether he is on the ground or in the air, Dr. Luigi will spawn a green stretcher below him which will bounce him up high into the air. This recovery is similar to Mega Man’s and Banjo & Kazooies’s in that it doesn’t actually damage opponents. Dr. Luigi is able to use this move to chain into another jump or attack after being launched into the air.

If Dr. Luigi uses this move on the ground, the stretcher will stay behind for a brief couple seconds allowing other characters to jump on it and be propelled into the air. If a third character tries to use the stretcher then when they jump on it the stretcher will break and cause that character to trip on the ground. Alternatively if Dr. Luigi had used this move while in the air, then after being propelled up into the air, the stretcher would fall down to the ground. If it hits another fighter at this point that opponent will be damaged and be hit by a spike attack. The stretcher, whether it hits an opponent or the stage, will break on impact.

Down Special[]

Infection: With this special move one of three Viruses will jump out of Dr. Luigi’s coat and startle the doctor. This Virus will mill about a bit as it wanders slightly where it was summoned, but doesn’t really go exploring or running about the stage. However when an enemy player gets close to the Virus they’ll suddenly snap to attention and try to attack the player. The Virus won’t chase them around the whole stage, but if the player stays near they’ll keep trying to hit them. If a Virus makes contact with a Player they’ll end up dealing a small amount of damage to the player and disappearing inside of their body. When this occurs, the Player becomes Infected by the Virus.

While Infected a little portrait of the Virus will appear next to the Player’s damage percent indicating their Infection and which specific Virus called it. Each of the three Viruses has their own Infection they inflict on a player, but beyond that they function virtually the same. Cyan Dizzy Viruses have a 40% chance to spawn and will infect players with a decrease to their jump height for 10 seconds. Yellow Drowsy Viruses have a 40% chance to spawn and will infect players with a decrease to their movement speed for 10 seconds. Magenta Confused Viruses have a 20% chance to spawn and will infect players with reversed left and right controls for 5 seconds.

Perhaps thankfully a player cannot be infected with more than 1 of a single type of Virus at a time. However they can be affected by all three different Viruses at once. Dr. Luigi however can only have 2 Viruses out on the field at a time. If he tries to summon a third then the oldest one will disappear. If a Virus disappears because it has Infected a player however that does not count against Dr. Luigi’s number of Viruses.

Final Smash[]

The Doctors Are In: As the Final Smash is activated Dr. Luigi will take hold of a stretcher and will push it forward with force sending it flying in a straight line. The first opponent that the stretcher hits (if anyone gets hit) will be hit for a small amount of damage before being pulled into a cinematic. The cinematic will open in a hospital room showing the opponent in a hospital bed looking sickly. The camera will then pan to show Dr. Luigi is surrounded by a group of other doctors including Dr. Daisy, Dr. Bowser Jr., Dr. Kamek, Dr. Waluigi, Dr. Diddy Kong, Dr. Toadette, Dr. Nabbit, Dr. King Boo, Dr. Koopa Troopa, and Dr. Blooper. All of these doctors are seen standing in a half-circle surrounding the patient with Dr. Luigi at their center. Suddenly, all the doctors will start hurling a storm of L-shaped Megavitamin blister packs at the patient attempting to cure them of their illness. Finally the Megavitamins will stop raining down only for Dr. Luigi to pull out a supersized Megavitamin which he chucks at the patient. This final Megavitamin will deal the final hit and it’s impact will end the cinematic and send the patient flying across the stage as the fight transitions back to the stage.

Extra Skill[]

Vaccination: Dr. Luigi will pull out a slightly oversized syringe from his coat filled with either cyan, yellow, or magenta liquid. The color is merely an aesthetic however and has no effect on the attack. Once the syringe is out Dr. Luigi will perform a long forward lunge forward hoping to jab the syringe’s needle into a nearby player. If Dr. Luigi is successful; the attack will deal a small amount of damage and knockback to the opponent. By default, this attack isn’t that powerful. However, if Dr. Luigi is able to hit an opponent who is currently being afflicted by some form of status effect (whether that’s being put to sleep by Jigglypuff, a Deku Nut’s stun, or even the effects of one of Dr. Luigi’s three Viruses from the Infection special move) then the amount of damage and knockback will increase. This increase to the attack’s strength will stack for each status effect that the opponent has on them up to three effects. This means that you could theoretically max out an opponent's Status Effects stacks for this move by hitting them with all three of Dr. Luigi’s Viruses.

When this occurs, the opposing player will not only be hurt, but any status effects that they had placed on them at the time of the attack will be removed. This includes both positive effects like Mipha’s Dance of the Zora as well as Negative Effects like being covered in the Inkling’s ink. There are two exceptions to this. A player under the effects of a Super Star cannot be damaged as they are currently invincible. The other exception is a player covered in a Final Smash aura. This aura does not count as a status effect for either part of this attack.

Dr. Luigi is capable of both Wall Jumping and Crawling along the stage.
