Character Info[]

Dr. Derek Stiles is a gifted surgeon who worked at Hope Hospital before being transferred to Caduceus USA. He possesses the Healing Touch, a mystical ability that allows him to operate at a speed beyond what any normal doctor could. With the help of his assistant Angie Thompson and his other Caduceus colleagues, he works to save numerous patients and combat the spread of GUILT strains created by the medical terrorist group Delphi.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

Derek thrusts his hand outwards determinedly. “Let’s begin the operation!”

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby dons a blue doctor cap and Derek’s glasses, somewhat resembling his own Doctor Kirby ability from prior Kirby games.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Derek holds his hands up the way doctors do after sanitizing, and they briefly glow blue.

Down Taunt: Derek adjusts up his glasses, which glint brightly for a moment.

Side Taunt: Derek waves his hand in an irritated manner “Step aside!”

Victory Poses[]

  1. Derek adjusts his gloves in a pose from Second Opinion. “Every disease has a cure!”
  2. Derek and Angie high five and stand back-to-back (a reference to the Japanese box art for Under The Knife). Either Derek will say “operation successful” or Angie will say “nice work, Dr Stiles!”
  3. Derek is shown leaning over an operating table, carefully applying sutures to a beat-up Sandbag.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Surgery: Derek uses the Surgical Tool currently selected (see Extra Skill section).

Side Special[]

Vital Incision: Derek slides forward and slices with his scalpel. Hitting an opponent with this move will add to the Healing Touch meter, decreasing its refill time (see Down Special section).

Up Special[]

Wings of Hermes: Ethereal wings appear on either side of Derek, boosting him up into the air before disappearing. This is a Smash original move, inspired by the wings that appear on the caduceus symbol which represents the god Hermes in Greek mythology.

Down Special[]

Healing Touch: Derek tenses up in concentration as a star is traced in white lines on top of him. This is a counter that lets Derek activate his Healing Touch ability. The window for the counter is shorter than most other counters, but if Derek manages to activate it the star will flash blue and the attacker’s movement will be reduced to about 1/4 speed. This speed reduction acts similar to Bayonetta’s Witch Time, and lasts for roughly 8 seconds. During this time, Derek’s hands glow blue and a meter below Derek’s damage percentage displays how much time the Healing Touch has remaining; when it runs out, it normally takes about 60 seconds to refill before it can be used again. Alternatively, if Derek uses the counter and fails to activate it, or tries to use it while the meter is refilling, he’ll rub his head in confusion and leave himself wide open for a moment. Be very careful when timing the Healing Touch - it’s a high risk, high reward move.

Final Smash[]

Code Blue: Derek thrusts his hand towards the screen dramatically as a large green vital sign pulses from left to right behind him, trapping any opponents it hits in a cinematic. The camera cuts to a computer screen showing vitals flatlining, before pulling out to reveal Angie monitoring it. She whips around to warn Derek (“Doctor, the vitals!”) as the camera quickly pans over to show Derek standing over the dazed opponent lying on an operating table. Derek pulls out the AED pads and rubs them together (“I won’t let you die!”) before shocking the opponent to deal massive damage. The cinematic ends and the opponent is sent flying.

Extra Skill[]

Surrgical Tools: Holding Shield and B together will bring up a circular selection of 8 different emergency tools around Derek (meaning he must be grounded to switch between them). Similar to Shulk’s Monado Arts, holding the control stick towards to the desired tool and releasing B will select it. Conversely, releasing B without moving the stick will cancel the selection. The tools Derek can use are as follows:

  • Antibiotic Gel - Derek applies the gel to himself and recovers 15% damage, but has a 50 second cool-down. There is a brief window where Derek is vulnerable while he applies the gel; getting hit during the animation will cancel the move and set the gel back to cool-down.
  • Syringe - Derek injects Stabilizer into the opponent, healing them for 6% damage but also lowering their attack power for a few seconds.
  • Sutures - Derek uses a command grab to ensnare the opponent in place, applying sutures in a zig-zag pattern. Rapidly pressing B will increase the amount of damage before the opponent can mash out.
  • Drain - Derek throws the drain towards an opponent, which acts independently as a sort of tether that connects them. The drain will continue dealing damage to an opponent until either they or Derek moves away/gets knocked back far enough to break the tether.
  • Laser - Derek angles a laser at the ground in front of him, causing continuous damage and flinching (similar to Bowser’s Fire Breath). Using it for too long will deplete the battery - if it runs out, it takes 5 seconds to recharge before it can be used again.
  • Ultrasound - Creates a short-range pulse around Derek, briefly paralyzing enemies. It can also highlight any invisible enemies in range.
  • Scalpel - Derek deftly jabs with the scalpel to damage opponents. This move can also used to break shields.
  • Forceps - Derek seizes the opponent with the forceps to deal damage. It also has a high chance of tripping them and leading to more setups.

After selecting a Surgery Tool, an icon showing that tool is displayed near Derek’s damage percentage. His default tool when starting a match is the Antibiotic Gel.
