Cowardly Mayas are Shadows belonging to the Magician Arcana and are amongst the weakest Shadows in all of Tartarus. They are Shadows seemingly made up of shadows, with a blue mask serving as their face marked with the number of the Magician Arcana. All Shadows found on the map in both Persona 3 and Persona 4 initially look like Maya-family Shadows until the battle begins even though the Maya-family is not found in Persona 4 at all.
Fight Pattern[]
Cowardly Mayas will patrol the area they spawn in and will move slowly as they crawl along the ground. If they spy a fighter they will stretch upwards briefly in shock before quickly rushing over to them to attack. Cowardly Mayas cannot jump or fall to other platforms which means they also cannot be knocked back by attacks, one of their few strengths. The only way to kill them is the direct way; damaging them.

When the Cowardly Maya gets close to its target it will reach out and slap its palms downwards at them. The attack isn’t particularly strong, but the Cowardly Mayas move fast at this point and will quickly move in to follow up for additional attacks so long as their target is on the same platform as them.
