Stage Info[]
Coliseums and Arenas have been part of the Fire Emblem franchise from the beginning and serve as a way to earn extra experience for units as well as extra gold. Some arenas allow for betting to take place which can affect the difficulty of the fight and the reward for winning it. In Genealogy of the Holy War, Coliseums were accessed through a castle and units wouldn’t die if they were defeated in battle unlike their appearances in the first two Fire Emblem games. As a trade-off however, Coliseums could not be endlessly grinded on and would only offer a maximum number of seven pre-determined enemies. While Three Houses doesn’t have a Coliseum per se, the Training Grounds at Garreg Mach Monastery serve a similar purpose. At the Training Grounds, Byleth can choose one of his students to participate in a tournament using specific weapons where they have to win against five different opponents in order to win a reward.
Stage Layout[]
Coliseum’s layout is a very simple one. The stage is grounded with walk offs to the sides and features completely flat ground. The design of the stage is meant to be generic and not point to any one particular Fire Emblem setting so that this stage could feasibly be from any game. That said, the dragon statues in the stage’s background do seem to bear a resemblance to the Fire Dragons and Earth Dragons from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem.
Stage Hazards[]
Rising Platforms[]
While Coliseum’s base layout may be on the boring side of things, this hazard should raise a player’s interest, literally! On the ground of the Coliseum are some platforms that are set into the ground, but as the battle rages these platforms can rise up at varying heights through some clever machinery. These platforms can rise and lower individually from the others and the lengths and heights that they raise are determined at random. That said, while this adds a random element to the stage, the timing of these layout changes can be fairly predictable. It’s not like they’ll be changing every 10 seconds or so.
