Item Info[]

These Clams are used in the popular ranked mode Clam Blitz, an alternative to the everyday Splat Battles. Clams must be picked up and collected by Inklings and Octolings if they wish for their team to win, but just picking the Clams up isn’t enough. Players have to throw the clams into goals on the opposite side of the map in order to gain points for their teams. But woe, the goals are commonly blocked and in order to break through the players will have to collect 8 clams and form them into a Power Clam. With a Power Clam in hand players can break through the barrier so that their team can score goals.

Item Usage[]

These clams operate as a mix of an item and a mid-fight event as if a match of Clam Blitz had been brought to Smash. 8 small Clams will spawn on the stage at a time in various locations as they lightly bounce in place. Any fighter that runs past a Clam will end up claiming them as if they had picked them up causing the Clam to follow right behind them much like they do in Splatoon’s Clam Blitz mode. Fighters can throw these Clams in a straight line but they will deal minimal damage and break on contact. If a fighter is able to collect 5 Clams at a time those Clams will merge into the much larger Power Clam. Power Clams can also be thrown in a straight line and they will inflict a much higher amount of damage and knockback making them an actual threat.

Fighters can be forced to drop their Clams if they are hit by strong attacks and any Clams that are lost either by falling off the stage or being thrown will eventually respawn. This Smashified version of Clam Blitz will continue for a set time before all of the Clams on the stage despawn together.
