Character Info[]
Chris is a light brown, slightly schizophrenic cat who appears in the Impossible Quiz series of flash games. While originating as the series’ mascot, he eventually grew to become the protagonist of the Impossible Quiz Book trilogy, being kidnapped by aliens and ending up transported through various eras of history. No matter how much punishment he endures (and believe me, it’s quite a lot) he eventually pulls through despite seemingly impossible odds. He is based off of creator Splapp-Me-Do’s pet cat Socks.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Chris falls from the sky, splatting into a heap on the ground, before quickly bouncing back up onto his hind legs.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby acquires two light brown ears and a pair of whiskers on his face.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: ‘From the Mind of Splapp.’ Similar to Pac-Man’s Namco Museum taunt, Chris holds out a paw upon which a random character of Splapp-Me-Do’s appears. Possible cameos include Badly Drawn Dawg, Frank, Spidermonkey, Cylinder, Eye-On-Legs and Dennis the Square Tomato, among several others.
Down Taunt: Chris settles into a sitting position and slowly licks up his extended leg. Urgh!
Side Taunt: Chris flashes the audience a thumbs up with a blank expression on his face.
Victory Poses[]
- Chris gleefully hoists up a gold trophy that reads “U R WINNAR”, based on the victory screen for The Impossible Quiz 2.
- Chris sits on a red stool and emits a strangled “meow” before his eyes bulge and go crosseyed (based on his first appearance in The Impossible Quiz: Question 68).
- Similar to his down taunt, Chris gives his leg a thorough lick before shooting the camera a maniacal grin.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Shotgun: Chris whips out and pumps a shotgun, grinning nefariously before blasting away. The attack deals greater damage and knockback the closer Chris is to his opponent. Additionally, the blast is so strong it propels Chris backward in a slight arc. You can mix up the move by firing away from your opponent to launch Chris toward them as an alternate way of dealing some damage. It also works as a quick evasion move, or as a method for recovering horizontally.
Side Special[]
Fusestopper: Chris pulls out a Fusestopper, a squishy purple alien that fires a large blue laser which fans out in front of him. The laser doesn’t deal that much damage, but acts as an excellent defensive move that neutralizes any explosive or energy-based projectile or item it touches. Bob-ombs, Grenades, PK Fires, Charge Beams, and even Thoron spells get deleted in the face of the almighty Fusestopper. However, using the move too frequently will result in the Fusestopper short-circuiting, leaving Chris wide open (similar to R.O.B.’s neutral special). Be sure to wait a bit between uses to let the Fusestopper recharge.
Up Special[]
Skip: Skips are a power-up that let you bypass most questions in The Impossible Quiz. In Smashtopia, Chris has access to seven of these Skips per stock (indicated as a row of green arrows beneath his damage meter). The move lets him quickly zip some distance away, similar to Fox’s Side-Special but usable in any direction. What’s more, Chris is fully invincible during a Skip, letting him bypass virtually any attack. The player can also chain them together, even being able to use all seven in a row for an expansive recovery range. Just be careful not to get launched without any Skips on hand to recover! KO’ing an opponent replenishes three skips, and being KO’d replenishes all seven.
Down Special[]
Time Bomb: Chris drops a spherical bomb on the stage in front of him. The Time bomb has a timer indicating when it will explode; briefly holding the button spawns a bomb with a 10-second timer. It takes a while to explode but deals massive knockback - it’s similar to Steve’s TNT in that it won’t affect Chris as much as his opponents. You can also tap the button to drop a 1- second bomb which explodes more quickly but with less knockback. If timed right, this can also be used while falling to aid with recovery if Chris is out of Skips, at the cost of damaging himself. Only one Time bomb can be active at a time - they cannot be picked up or destroyed normally, but can be nudged a bit by attacks. Chris can also nullify his or an opposing Chris’ bombs with a Fusestopper.
Final Smash[]
Catastrophe: Chris leaps away as a rift in the space-time continuum opens up to suck in any nearby opponents. Anyone caught in the portal is treated to a scene of them being buffeted by dozens of objects and characters from the Impossible Quiz series, dealing continuous damage. After a moment the portal winks out, briefly displaying ‘ERROR 404: “Smashtopia.swf” could not be found’ onscreen before the screen glitches back and the battle resumes with the opponent(s) being launched away. This scene is based on the ending of the Impossible Quiz Book Chapter 3, where the player must wipe The Impossible Quiz out of history.
Extra Skill[]
Lifebuoy: Pressing Shield+B causes Chris to equip a Lifebuoy around himself, an effect that lasts 10 seconds. During this time, any contact with a blast zone will forcefully repel him back toward the stage, giving him a chance to recover. This makes the Lifebuoy a valuable means of defence while Chris is at high damage. He can only use a Lifebuoy once per stock however, so use it wisely!
Unique Traits[]
If Chris is over 100% damage his appearance will change to include bandages around his head and tail, and a cast on his right arm.
