Character Info[]
Charizard is the fully-evolved form of Charmander (and Charmeleon), one of the three Pokemon available as a starter to new trainers in the Kanto region. Their fire is said to be hot enough to melt boulders and their wings allow them to fly up to 4,600 feet into the air. With a Mega Stone Charizards are able to access two different forms of Mega Evolution and in the Galar region they are capable of Gigantamaxing. Charizard is also available in the Alola Region as a Ride Pokemon and helps to ferry Pokemon Trainers from one island to another.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
The Pokemon Trainer hanging out in the background will toss out a Poke Ball onto the stage and yell, “Let’s go, Charizard!”. When the Poke Ball hits the stage Charizard will pop out of it and ready for battle.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will wear a skin cap on his head made to look like the top of Charizard’s head with little horns. Additionally, two miniature versions of Charizard’s wings will appear on the back of the cap.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Charizard will puff out its chest as it stands upright, not too dissimilar to Ridley’s down taunt while also breathing out a short stream of flames.
Down Taunt: Charizard will face towards the screen and rear back its head as it lets out a mighty roar.
Side Taunt: Charizard will do a quick contained aerial flip in place as it roars.
Victory Poses[]
During Charizard’s victory pose the Pokemon Trainer will utter a voiceline. The Male Pokemon Trainer will say either, “You all did great!” or “You did it, Charizard!”. The Female Pokemon Trainer will say either, “Everyone did great!” or “You’re amazing, Charizard!”
- Charizard will angrily stomp on the ground while roaring up into the sky. The Male Pokemon Trainer will toss Charizard’s Poke Ball up into the air and catch it on the way down before holding it forward. The Female Pokemon Trainer will toss Charizard’s Poke Ball up into the air and catch it mid-twirl before holding it forward.
- Charizard will use Flare Blitz to crash down into the ground from the sky. Charizard will end up bouncing off of the ground and landing back on its feet next to the Pokemon Trainer. The Pokemon Trainer will be cheering on Charizard from the back. Either Pokemon Trainer will be looking into the sky and duck out of Charizard’s way before raising both fists up into the air in support.
- Either Pokemon Trainer will pet Charizard on the neck and scratch his head as Charizard happily enjoys the treatment.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Flamethrower: Charizard will expel a stream of powerful flames from its mouth, not too dissimilar to Bowser’s Fire Breath. Also like Bowser, Charizard can tilt its head to angle where the flames are being fired by tilting the control stick and if you breathe flames for too long then the fire will begin to peter out until Charizard is breathing out nothing but hot air. That said, this attack has a surprisingly long hitbox which helps to make up for its lower damage output.
Side Special[]
Flare Blitz: Charizard will launch itself through the air with a flaming corkscrew tackle that sends it flying a good distance straight forward. If Charizard makes contact with something it will deal damage before exploding out into a burst of fire for additional damage and knockback. Take caution with this attack though as Charizard will take damage from its use as well. Charizard will take damage not only when the attack is initially activated, but during the explosion that occurs on contact as well. However if Charizard doesn’t make contact with anything and the attack ends with him spinning out in the air, Charizard won’t take the second hit of damage.
Up Special[]
Fly: Charizard will fly straight up into the air, corkscrewing as it ascends, for a relatively average distance. This attack gives Charizard a few frames of Super Armor near the beginning and allows Charizard to carry fighters up into the air with it for multiple hits of damage as it spins around. Once Charizard has reached its maximum height, it will hit one final time and knock fighters away.
Down Special[]
Rock Smash: Charizard will pull out a boulder and bash its head into it causing the boulder to break into small chunks of rock. The initial breaking of the boulder itself can deal a good amount of damage and knockback to opponents next to Charizard as the boulder is essentially broken on their bodies. The fragments meanwhile are considerably weaker, but fly out in a bit of a shotgun-like pattern so the damage can rack up if someone is hit by several of them.
Final Smash[]
Triple Finish: The Pokemon Trainer will throw out Squirtle and Ivysaur’s Poke Balls onto the field next to Charizard as all three Pokemon prepare to use powerful attacks all at the same time. Squirtle will unleash a short-ranged Hydro Pump which creates a cone-shaped vortex of water in front of the three Pokemon. Pokemon that are caught in the vortex will be pulled to its center so that they can be hit by Ivysaur and Charizard’s attacks as well. Ivysaur will fire out a long-ranged Solar Beam which can trap opponents in place that are hit by it. Charizard will fire five Fire Blasts which one after the other which will hit any of the trapped Pokemon in their way (as well as others who got too close). Charizard’s Fire Blasts won’t trap any opponents and will deal knockback to any opponent’s who aren’t already trapped. Charizard’s fifth and final Fire Blast deals more damage than the previous once and is the sign that this onslaught is over. Once the last Fire Blast has been fired Squirtle’s Hydro Pump and Ivysaur’s Solar Beam out and all trapped fighters will be sent flying. Following this, Squirtle and Ivysaur will return to their Poke Balls at the Pokemon Trainer’s side.
Extra Skill[]
Pokemon Change: The Pokemon Trainer will recall Charizard back into its Poke Ball, and send out Squirtle in its place. Occasionally this will be accompanied by a voice line saying, “Let’s go Squirtle!”. This switch can be performed whether Charizard is on the ground or in the air. Charizard will have immunity to attacks during the initial switch, but once Squirtle is out on the field then it’s game on. This move has a cooldown of 2 seconds before it can be used to switch to the next Pokemon.
Unique Traits[]
Charizard can jump two additional times in the air. Charizard is also weak to water and as such will take continuous damage while swimming through water. When Charizard gets KO’d during a fight, the Pokemon Trainer will send out Squirtle’s Poke Ball when it's time to respawn instead of Charizard’s.
