Character Info[]

Captain Syrup is the captain of the Black Sugar Gang and a constant thorn in Wario’s side. Though her base of operations is on Kitchen Island, Captain Syrup has no issues sailing across the sea or even to other worlds in her endless search for treasure. Captain Syrup is quite skilled at thievery and has no issues with under-handed tricks such as tricking Wario into going into the Shake Dimension and stealing the Bottomless Coin Sack from the Shake King, only to then steal it from Wario when he wasn’t looking and sail away with it.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

Captain Syrup will fly in on her Teacup Saucer before leaping out onto the stage.

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby will have Captain Syrup’s long hair atop his head which is held in place by her purple bandana.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Captain Syrup will take out a coin and twirl it between her fingers briefly before flipping it up into the air. The coin will spin in the air a couple times before Captain Syrup snatches it out of the air.

Down Taunt: Captain Syrup will hold out her hand as one of the 15 treasures from the original Wario Land appears in her hand giving her a chance to brag about one of her oldest treasures.

Side Taunt: Captain Syrup will pull out an old tattered treasure map and study it for a brief moment before rolling the map back up and tucking away.

Victory Poses[]

  1. Captain Syrup will laugh and say, “Better luck next time sugar!” as she swings her cutlass around in her hand before resting it on her shoulder. Additionally, Captain Syrup will be resting one foot on top of the Bottomless Coin Sack which is laying on the ground with a few coins spilling out from it.
  2. A large red X will be on the ground as Captain Syrup digs into it with a shovel. After a couple scoops a geyser of golden coins will shoot out as Captain Syrup looks on in excitement.
  3. Captain Syrup will run in from the side of the screen with a giant sack of gold held over her shoulders. Wario will chase after her until Captain Syrup tosses a bomb behind her which explodes on Wario and sends him flying away.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Syrup Bomb: Captain Syrup will pull out a bomb emblazoned with the skull logo of the Black Sugar Gang before lobbing it forward in an arc. This bomb will explode once it makes contact with anything, but unlike most explosive attacks this bomb doesn’t create a large explosive aoe. Instead, when this bomb explodes it will unleash a large amount of boiling-hot syrup which splashes out around the explosion. This syrup will stick to opponents (and other damageable things) and cause them to take multiple hits of fire damage over the next few seconds. This syrup leaves a visible mark on whatever it is damaging, making it clear to everyone why they are taking damage. A target cannot take damage from more than one bomb at a time, however if a second bomb were to explode and release more syrup on an already syrupy target, the timer for the burning syrup will be reset.

Side Special[]

Ball o' Syrup: Captain Syrup pulls out a tangled mess of rope and attempts to throw it forwards to catch an opponent, but ends up getting caught in the rope instead! Captain Syrup essentially gets tied up into a ball of rope as she rolls forward along the ground until she either falls off the stage or bounces into something. Captain Syrup is also capable of jumping while in this form which allows her a chance to try and jump into an opponent who may have thought they were safe and out of the way. The farther Captain Syrup travels the harder she will be able to hit an opponent and inflict damage to them.

Up Special[]

Bobo: The guard of the SS Tea Cup, Bobo the Bird will appear directly above Captain Syrup before grabbing ahold of her shoulder in his talons. Bobo will then fly into the air, with a slight forward arc, and let go of Captain Syrup once he reaches the height of his flight. If Bobo is attacked and takes enough damage during this special he will let go of Captain Syrup early causing her to enter a state of freefall.

Down Special[]

Goom Cannon: A cannon will appear in front of Captain Syrup which she is able to angle slightly before letting go of the input and firing out a Pirate Goom from it. This Pirate Goom will deal a small amount of damage on contact and if it manages to land on a platform it will wander back and forth holding its spear. If the Pirate Goom gets closer to a fighter it will chase them for a short distance and attempt to lunge at them with its spear. These Pirate Gooms only inflict a small amount of damage and it doesn’t take a very strong attack to KO them. Captain Syrup can only have two Pirate Gooms on the stage at a time and they will automatically vanish after a few seconds. Captain Syrup will be unable to use this move if there are already two Pirate Gooms on the stage.

Final Smash[]

A Pirate's Wish: Captain Syrup will take out a magic lamp before rubbing on it with her arm. When Captain Syrup rubs the lamp, red smoke will pour out of the lamp before forming into Denpu the Giant. Once Denpu has arrived Captain Syrup will leap up onto his shoulders as the two of them fly into the background of the stage. At Captain Syrup’s direction, Denpu will throw a series of fireballs up over the screen which will start to fall down onto the stage after a few seconds. These fireballs will begin by falling on the far left and right sides of the screen before slowly moving inwards as new fireballs fall closer and closer towards the center of the screen. These fireballs are capable of bouncing off the ground and the walls, but will disappear either after they’ve hit an opponent or have hit a surface for the third time. These fireballs are weak individually, but the damage from them can rack up if a fighter is unfortunate enough to be hit several times. Once the small fireballs have reached the center of the stage Denpu will finish this Final Smash off by throwing one larger fireball over the screen. This larger fireball will fall down the direct middle of the screen and deal heavy damage to anything it hits.

Extra Skill[]

Shake It!: Captain Syrup will reach forwards to grab onto the shoulders of whoever is in front of her. If no other inputs are pressed right away Captain Syrup will let her opponent go without a fuss. However by repeatedly pressing the attack button Captain Syrup will pick up her target and shake them for all they’re worth, literally! As Captain Syrup shakes her opponent they will take very small amounts of damage as golden coins fly out from their body and fill up a gold meter found by Captain Syrup’s Damage%. After a few seconds of shaking her foe, Captain Syrup will automatically let go and toss her opponent a short distance away.

The meter that these coins fill up is used to buff Captain Syrup’s attack strength. Captain Syrup can hold up to 50 coins at a time and her attack strength will be buffed by 1% for every coin up to a maximum of 50%. Captain Syrup will lose coins gradually as she runs around and fights and she will lose even more whenever she takes damage. If Captain Syrup is KO’d, she will lose all the coins she had on her at the time.

Unique Traits[]

Captain Syrup is capable of Wall Jumping.
