In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Bowser and Bowser Jr. throw the Big Man's own shell as their special item! It functions similarly to the Green Shell, but is much larger, potentially toppling multiple racers at once with its massive scope. It later appears in the Mario Kart Arcade titles, first as a special item for Bowser, and later as an item any racer can use. The latter applies to its most recent appearance, too, in Mario Kart Tour.
Item Usage[]
The Bowser Shell appears at about 2x times the size of the Spiny Shell when it is inactive, and when it is being held by a character. Once it is thrown, however, it will grow to about the size of Bowser himself! The shell dishes out considerably more damage and knockback than any other Koopa Shell, and is capable of some unique properties depending on the velocity at which it is thrown and where an opponent is hit by the item. If they are hit by the top of the Bowser Shell, it will dish out piercing damage, whereas damage dealt will be more blunt and knockback-focused when hit head-on. Finally, the shell might ground opponents for a period of time if they're hit with the brunt of it on ground-level. It's also fairly capable of breaking shields when thrown at a quick enough speed, making for a shell of a ride all-around! The Bowser Shell will remain in play, bouncing back and forth, until it either falls off the stage or disappears.
