Despite their name containing the word “Boss”, Boss Galagas are among the common rank and file of the Galaga armies. That said, Boss Galagas are a step above in that they take two hits to destroy and they are capable of stealing enemy ships with their tractor beams.
Item Usage[]
The Boss Galaga is one of the more dangerous items as it is capable of dragging fighters off the screen to their demise and KO. The Boss Galaga must be picked up and thrown and once this has happened it will fly up to the top of the screen (inflicting a minor amount of damage to anyone it flies into) before strafing left and right much like it does in Galaga. After a few seconds have passed the Boss Galaga will home in on an opposing fighter and fly towards them before firing its tractor beam on them. If the tractor beam was successful it will turn red before the Boss Galaga flies up towards the top of the screen and over the blast line. If successful, the fighter will be KO’d. Fighters can attempt to dodge the tractor beam (which will result in the Boss Galaga flying away empty handed) or mash their controls to try and escape once grabbed, however it’s very difficult to escape if they’ve taken 50% damage or more.
The Boss Galaga can be attacked and destroyed however it will take two separate attacks to do so. After the Boss Galaga has been attacked once it will change colors to blue and purple, and then once it’s been attacked a second time it will break apart into pixels.
