The Blightstaff is a magical item that was used by Caduceus Clay during his adventures with the Mighty Nein. With it Caduceus is able to summon swarms of flying beetles, but only once per long rest, which he can control to bite opponents who are within 30 feet of him for up to a minute.
Item Usage[]
With the Blightstaff in hand, a fighter is able to use the attack button to summon a small swarm of beetles which will fly together in a cloud-like formation. If the button is just pressed then the beetles will fly forwards about a third of Final Destination’s length and sit in place where they will remain for 5 seconds. Any other fighter who makes contact with the swarm of beetles at this time will find themselves taking multiple hits of damage from the beetles biting at them before they are pushed back only a small amount and the beetles disappear. Alternatively, a fighter can hold down the attack button which allows them to control the flight path for the beetle swarm omnidirectionally. Doing this will also increase the range of the flight pattern up to half of Final Destination’s length. Once the button is let go of, the beetles reach their maximum range, or the fighter is interrupted by either an attack or some other method, the beetles will stop and hang in place much like they would with a simple button press.
Unlike it’s limitations in D&D, the Blightstaff can be used twice before it breaks in a fighter’s hands and players are able to have both swarms of beetles on the field at the same time.
