Character Info[]
Billy Blazes is a firefighter and leader of the Rescue Heroes, a team deployed to combat extreme emergencies around the world when they arise. As a child Billy was himself saved from inside a burning building by a firefighter, and was inspired to become one himself. He always keeps the team in check and prioritizes safety above all else. Whether a mission involves rescuing people from hurricanes, landslides or avalanches, Billy is the first to lead the charge and make sure no one gets left behind.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Billy is quickly lowered by a rope ladder (presumably from Ariel Flyer’s helicopter) and steps onto the stage. “Let’s move!”
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby gains Billy’s red firefighter hat, plus a gray headset attached to the left side.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Billy taps his headset, nods and and says “copy that.”
Down Taunt: Billy glances down in surprise as the Rescue alert on his belt blares for a moment.
Side Taunt: Billy takes off his firefighter hat and swipes his brow in relief, then re-dons it.
Victory Poses[]
- Billy points to his noggin and then at the camera. “Think like a Rescue Hero; think safe!”
- Billy extinguishes a wall of flame with his Water Cannon, before turning to flash the camera a thumbs-up.
- A wall comprised of wooden boards is shown before an axe breaks it in half. Billy appears as his axe retracts into his backpack. “No one gets left behind!”
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Fire Axe: A mechanical fire axe extends from Billy’s backpack and chops in front of him. The move comes out fairly quick, and does strong damage against shields. It is used by pressing B, but it (along with the other special moves) has a variant that involves holding the button (see Extra Skill Section).
Side Special[]
Water Cannon: Billy fires a concentrated blast of water that travels forward in a slight arc, dealing slight damage. Like other water-based moves it will push opponents back a bit but won’t make them flinch.
Up Special[]
Glider Wings: Billy’s recovery move sees him borrow Cliff Hanger’s hang glider. Red wings sprout from Billy’s pack before he boosts into the air. Billy's wings disappear upon reaching the peak of his height before entering freefall. The move can be angled left or right upon ascend, but has no offensive capability in its current form.
Down Special[]
Excavator: Billy uses Rip Rockefeller’s large digging tool, scraping the arm’s bucket into the stage and flinging a wave of dirt and debris at opponents in front of him. The move deals greater knockback if the arm of the tool hits the opponent.
Final Smash[]
Emergency Response: Billy raises an arm to shield his face as lightning strikes, causing a fire to break out and envelop the area in front of him. A random opponent that gets struck by the fire will be trapped in a cinematic. The scene will show the dazed opponent inside a burning building, rapidly taking damage from the smoke. Billy uses his axe to chop through a door and quickly carries them to safety. The cinematic ends and the opponent rejoins Billy onstage, stunned as if they’d just suffered a shield break. Billy now has the opportunity to KO his opponent if their damage is high enough. It may seem counterproductive to attack someone right after saving them, but thankfully it’s just a training simulation! Billy may be the leader of the Rescue Heroes, but he can only do so much by himself. Other emergency scenarios may play out depending on what mission Billy is equipped for (see Extra Skill section).
Extra Skill[]
Mission Select: By holding Shield and pressing B, Billy will alter his current mission designation and add an extra attribute to its corresponding special move. By default, Billy’s selected mission is ‘Fire Rescue’ as indicated by an icon next to his damage percentage. While a specific Mission is selected, its matching special move will gain an additional property:
- Fire Rescue: By holding the button, Fire Axe changes to swing two axes from Billy’s backpack one after the other. While the move is slower to use consecutively, this one-two chop can decimate almost any shield instantly.
- Water Rescue: Holding the button switches to a constant stream of water that will propel foes away while dealing continuous damage. The flow will become weaker after a few seconds similar to Bowser’s Fire Breath, so the player must wait a moment before the pressure returns to normal. The stream can also be aimed by tilting the control stick.
- Air Rescue: Holding the button slightly extends Billy’s recovery distance. He also takes out a large mechanical clamp to grip any opponent he connects with on the way up. Once he latches onto an opponent in midair he’ll swiftly plunge down and slam them into the ground; the knockback is increased the higher Billy’s opponent is from the ground. Careful when using the move offstage, unless you want to KO your opponent with you!
- Land Rescue: Holding B gives Excavator a bit more windup time, but it grants Billy super armour during the move. In addition, the area that was scooped becomes an invisible trap that opponents can get stuck in similar to the Pitfall item. Using the move again will reset the area where the trap exists; the trap remains active for 10 seconds before disappearing.
Alongside Special Moves, Billy’s currently selected Mission will also influence his Final Smash! While the default Fire Rescue selection will see Billy take matters into his own hands, alternate emergencies will have him call in backup depending on the selected Mission:
- Water Rescue: A wave of water crashes in from the background to hit an opponent in front of Billy. The cinematic changes to show the opponent in a flooded city, taking continuous damage as they struggle to stay afloat. Gil Gripper zooms in on his jet ski, snatching the opponent up and zipping off again. The opponent is dropped back onto the stage, safe but suffering a temporary decrease in movement speed due to mild hypothermia.
- Air Rescue: Volcanic debris strikes the stage to hit an opponent in front of Billy. The cinematic changes to show the opponent trapped near a lava flow as a volcano erupts behind them, taking continuous damage from the heat. Cliff Hanger flies in with his hang glider and scoops the opponent up, maneuvering to avoid falling rocks. The opponent is plunked back onstage, all safe but dizzy from the flight, making their controls reverse for a short while.
- Land Rescue: An earthquake breaks out and causes a rock formation to bulge from a fissure in the ground, throwing an opponent in front of Billy into the air. The cinematic changes to show the opponent in a town become trapped under a fallen tree. Jack Hammer arrives and uses a pneumatic saw to cut through the tree and free the opponent. While safe, the experience has left them fairly injured, dealing a large chunk of extra damage and instantly collapsing in a ‘crumple’ state upon returning to the stage.
