Character Info[]
Big Man is the third member of the band-and-bandit trio known as Deep Cut alongside his best friends Shiver and Frye. Big Man was born into the Manta Clan in the Splatlands and through his family he met Shiver and Frye in his younger years. It wasn’t until their middle school days though when the three officially became friends and bandmates when Shiver and Frye came knocking on his door wanting to make a band with him where he’d play the soundtrack to their singing. Years later the three have become quite famous in the Splatlands and now serve as the hosts of the local Anarchy Splatcast. Big Man is also known to favor using the Slosher weapon type, as well as playing matches of Tableturf Battle.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
Big Man glides onto the stage riding a manta ray-shaped splash of ink before gracefully flipping into position with his signature charm.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby wears Big Man’s red and white headpiece atop his head, as well as Big Man’s mask over his face.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Big Man will face the screen and happily wave towards it with one of his fins. While he waves Big Man will say in the Inkling language, “Big Man Time!”
Down Taunt: Big Man will slowly spin around in a circle waving his fins up and down in an alternating pattern.
Side Taunt: Big Man will dive into his own shadow for a moment, blending in with the stage before popping back up with aplomb.
Victory Poses[]
- A Large Big Man-shaped ink shadow will be seen on the ground for a moment before Big Man leaps out surrounded by a torrent of ink. Big Man will spin through the air causing the ink to spin off of him and rain down below before he lands and gives the camera a deep bow.
- Big Man will spin in a circle a couple times before stopping to face the screen and point one fin high into the air like he was on the disco floor.
- Big Man will be seen sliding across the ground in a figure-eight pattern, leaving behind a trail of ink in his wake while also splashing up a wave of each with each turn. The camera will be dynamically following around Big Man as this occurs to make it look like an action shot in a movie.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Slosher/Manta Wave: This move will change slightly depending on if the input is being held or not. When merely tapped, Big Man will quickly swing a Slosher bucket forwards as it sloshes a bucket’s worth of ink shortly up into the air before it arcs back down a short distance in front of him. When the input is held however, Big Man will swing his Slosher bucket low to create a wide, slow-moving wave of ink across the ground. Opponents who are hit by the wave will take continuous damage as they are hit by it. On top of this, the wave will push fighters back, potentially trapping them in the attack, as it spreads across the stage.
Side Special[]
Manta Slide: Big Man will flatten himself along the ground before propelling himself forward with ink as he slides across the ground looking like a manta fly swimming through the ocean. This move is great for horizontal recovery as Big Man only has a minor amount of dropoff when using it. When Big Man hits an opponent with this move they’ll be knocked up mostly vertically as if they were being flipped up like a pancake.
Up Special[]
Manta Storm: Big Man will use a blast of ink to propel himself high up into the air as he folds his flippers against his body and spirals upwards in a straight line. This spiraling action will damage any fighters who Big Man runs into before they get knocked away. When Big Man reaches the height of this jump he’ll unfurl his fins with gusto and slap any fighters who were next to him and knock them back. At the same time, a small splash of ink will rain down from Big Man and potentially land on and damage anyone who was below him.
Down Special[]
Suction Bomb: Big Man will toss a Suction Bomb a short distance in front of him. The Suction Bomb will take a second or two to charge up before suddenly activating a small yet powerful suction on any items and characters (besides Big Man) that are nearby it. Once the suction has pulled everything in it will explode damage and inking up everything in its range. The Suction Bomb will use up over half of Big Man’s maximum amount of ink making it impossible to spam this move.
Final Smash[]
Anarchy Rainbow: A concert platform will rise up below Big Man and raise him slightly into the air as Shiver and Frye appear behind him, ready to backup their bandmate. The three members of Deep Cut will then play a condensed mix of their hit song “Anarchy Rainbow”, completely taking over the stage’s background music. While they play, musical notes made up of Blue, Yellow, and Red ink will fly out from Deep Cut and head out in all manners of direction towards the edges of the screen. Players who are hit by an ink note will take a small amount of damage and be covered in a small amount of ink which means that successive hits from the ink notes will inflict more damage. The notes themselves are each rather weak, but with the sheer number of them flying around the damage can wrack up.
Extra Skill[]
Torpedo: Tapping the Extra Skill input will cause a Torpedo to spawn in a space above and in front of Big Man and will hang there for a brief second as it analyzes the best course of action. The Torpedo will then point in the direction of the enemy fighter closest to Big Man as it locks in on their position. The Torpedo will then fly in that direction in a straight line until it either impacts with something solid or has traveled its maximum distance. At that point the Torpedo will explode to damage and ink anything that was nearby.
Unique Traits[]
Big Man is capable of crouching low against the stage and crawling forwards. Big Man is also able to swim in the water longer than most other characters.
Big Man shares the Inkling’s Ink mechanic. This mechanic allows Big Man’s ink-based attacks to cover those they hit with ink. When an opponent is covered in any amount of ink, all attacks that hit them will deal 1.5x the normal amount of damage, no matter the source of the attack. This ink does wear off over time and takes about 5-20 seconds to wear off depending on how much ink they were covered in.
Additionally, Big Man’s ink-based moves will use up some of the ink in Big Man’s ink tank. While some attacks can still be used without ink, such as Big Man’s Up and Side Specials, their damage and knockback will be significantly reduced. Moves like Suction Bomb and Slosher/Manta Wave will be completely unusable if Big Man doesn’t have enough ink to power them. Holding down the Extra Skill input will allow Big Man to enter into animation where he starts recharging his ink by slipping into his shadow.
