Item Info[]
When Link launches one of these from his wrists he can control the Beetle’s flight patterns to attack enemies, cut ropes, retrieve items, or drop bombs on enemies. Though at first all it can do is damage things with its blade, once it gets upgraded into its Hook Beetle form the Beetle can perform its other tasks as well.
Item Usage[]
In Smash the Beetle is a very annoying item. Once thrown the Beetle will fly forwards in a straight path where it will attempt to latch onto an opposing fighter. If the Beetle manages to do so it will begin to quickly fly upwards attempting to carry its prey up above the stage’s blast line to instantly KO them. Players can attempt to escape by jiggling the control stick, however the more damage that player has on them the harder it will be to escape. Crafty fighters may try to attack the Beetle before it can reach them as a strong enough attack will send the Beetle flying back in the opposite direction where it just might grab onto the one who initially threw it instead.
A unique quirk to the Beetle is that if it tries to grab onto a player who is under the effects of an item that increases/decreases their size like a Super Mushroom or Lightning Bolt, the Beetle will bounce off of them and become inactive on the stage’s ground where it can then be picked up and thrown once again. This also occurs if the Beetle tries to grab onto a player who is under a Metal effect such as if they had used a Metal Box.
