It’s a Smash original! This item is based on various barriers and shields from different games which cause a translucent spherical barrier to appear around a character. Sometimes called Bubble Shields, these shields help to protect their wielder from harm by stopping (or sometimes reflecting) attacks that are made against them. This Barrier Shield in particular creates a shield with the Smash logo on it which almost makes it looks like they're inside of the logo itself!
Item Usage[]
When it's just lying on the stage the Barrier Shield will look like some kind of futuristic mechanical gizmo. When a fighter picks it up they’ll instantly activate the device as a spherical barrier surrounds their entire body. This barrier will protect the fighter from all active forms of damage such as melee and projectile attacks. This barrier won’t protect the fighter from more passive forms of damage such as running through the poisonous gas that the Ashley Assist Trophy creates. This barrier won’t protect you forever however. The Barrier Shield has its own HP value as well which gets depleted when it's hit by attacks. When the Barrier Shield runs out of health, or a set amount of time has passed, the shield will sputter and deactivate. While there is no indicator for how much time the Barrier Shield has left, the shield will change color as it loses health. The barrier starts out blue, but will become yellow and then red as it loses health.
