Character Info[]

Praise the sun! When Nippon is once again sent under threat by the demonic powers of the eight-headed serpent, Orochi, the Sun Goddess Amaterasu is brought to Earth in her wolf form to send this evil back from whence it came. Sometimes aloof, always courageous, and ever the artist alongside her traveling companion Issun, Ammy fights off demonic forces with a mix of weaponry and the power of her Celestial Brush—a supernatural paintbrush blessed by lesser deities to aid her with their magic.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

A statue of Amaterasu will be standing on the screen before it rattles a bit and bursts apart revealing Amaterasu was inside of the statue the whole time.

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby will have Amaterasu’s furry ears on top of his head as well as Amaterasu’s facial markings on Kirby’s own face. Additionally, a miniature version of Amaterasu’s reflector will be on Kirby’s back.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Amaterasu will stand back in a threatening pose and bark. This bark can be repeated non-stop by either continuing to hold down this taunt input or by pressing it repeatedly.

Down Taunt: Amaterasu will curl up and lay down in order to take a quick nap on stage before Issun angrily jumps on her nose and wakes Amaterasu up.

Side Taunt: The Celestial Brush will appear and draw the symbol for Bloom in front of Amaterasu. This causes a small clover to sprout in front of Amaterasu which Amaterasu will take the time to sniff.

Victory Poses[]

  1. Issun will jump off of Amaterasu and bounce around the screen in excitement as Amaterasu pants a little bit before lying down.
  2. The camera dynamically shifts and stirs as Amaterasu lets out a victorious howl, the sun shining overhead. This is directly from her boss victory pose in Okami.
  3. Amaterasu will furiously dig into the ground until she’s able to uproot a turnip. Amaterasu will proudly hold the turnip between her teeth while Issun bounces around her.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Power Slash: A straight line made out of ink will extend horizontally in front of Amterasu. By default the line is pretty short and serves as the hitbox itself so opponents that make contact with this line will get slashed by it. Powerfully. By charging up this attack you can do two things. The first is that the line gets longer increasing the range of the attack, but the second is that you can angle what direction the line goes in by tilting the control stick slightly. You don’t have free range to aim however, it’s just a conal opportunity. That said, the line doesn’t get drawn during the charge, the drawing will come once you release the input. This attack is also great at destroying an opponent’s defensive structures as it can pierce through them and can destroy shields at maximum charge. This move is also capable of reflecting projectiles, though the basic attack can only reflect weaker projectiles like Mario’s fireball. If you want to reflect a more powerful projectile like say, a fully charged shot from a Super Scope then you’ll need to charge the move up a bit.

Side Special[]

Icestorm: An X made of ink will be drawn out in front of Amaterasu and a moment later a circle of icicles will rain down from above that spot. By charging up this move the X will be drawn out longer to cover more space in front of Amaterasu, but this will also make the X thinner as you trade some height for length with this icicle attack. While the icicles are dropping, Amaterasu will be surrounded by a fast-moving freezing mist, not unlike the blizzard that the Ice Climbers can generate. This mist has the potential to freeze opponents who make contact with Amaterasu. Without charge, the icicles will drop in an area about as wide as Kirby, but at maximum charge they can cover an area as wide as three Kirbys.

Up Special[]

Greensprout: A line of ink will quickly be drawn from Amaterasu and up towards a nearby ledge, assuming one is within range. Once the line reaches the ledge it will transform into a sturdy green vine and rapidly pull Amaterasu up towards the ledge it is attached to. This move can also focus on other fighters and pull Amaterasu towards them, however it will always prioritize grappling onto a ledge over other fighters. The line will by default go at an upwards diagonal angle in front of Amaterasu and can swing 45 degrees to either side. If there is no ledge or fighter for the line to target, then it will quickly fade out once it reaches its maximum distance.

Down Special[]

Cherry Bomb: A circle of ink will be drawn in front of Amaterasu which causes a Cherry Bomb to plop right there in front of Amaterasu. This Cherry Bomb will immediately start to spark signaling that it will explode in a few seconds. When the Cherry Bomb explodes it will do so with an aoe causing explosive damage to anything around it. The Cherry Bomb can be blown up early by hitting it with any fire attack and it can even be attacked and rolled around not unlike the Soccer Ball item. This could allow you to set up a fun combo where Amaterasu kicks the Cherry Bomb to another part of the stage while another fighter hits it with fire causing it to blow up on a nearby opponent before they could react.

Final Smash[]

Susano-Style Crescent Strike: A large inky crescent gets drawn in front of Amaterasu before it comes to life as a large crescent moon. If a fighter is in front of Amaterasu when this occurs then they will be trapped in place by the moon as the background of the stage changes to match the night sky in Okami. After a few moments a shout will be heard as Susano appears in the background of the stage, spinning through the air with his wooden sword. As Susano spins around he’ll get closer and closer to the stage before entering the field of battle and unleashing a massive diagonal swipe with his sword which centers on the fighter trapped by the moon. Susano’s crescent strike will reach from one end of the screen to the other so any other fighter who is hit by his blade will take damage as well. That said, the fighter caught in the middle will take more damage and knockback than any other.

Extra Skill[]

Divine Instruments: Amaterasu starts out the match wearing the Divine Retribution reflector on her back which she uses for her Normal and Aerial attacks. This can be changed by activating Amaterasu’s Extra Skill to swap out the Divine Retribution reflector with the Devout Beads rosary. By pressing the Extra Skill a second time she will swap out the Devout Beads rosary for the Tsumugari glaive. Finally, a third use of the Extra Skill will have Amaterasu swap out the Tsumugari glaive back for the Divine Retribution reflector.

As a general overview, the Divine Retribution has the shortest range, fastest attacks, but is medium in terms of damage output. The Devout Beads have the longer range, medium attack speed, but deal the weakest damage. The Tsumugari has medium range, has slower attacks, but deals the largest amount of damage

Unique Traits:[]

Amaterasu can crawl along the stage, wall jump, and wall cling.
