Character Info[]

Alphinaud Leveilleur is a young Elezen from Sharlayan who attended the Studium alongside his twin sister Alisaie. In time, the two would decide to leave in search of their grandfather, Louisoix, and so they traveled to Eorzea together. Alphinaud would end up joining the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, a group dedicated to protecting Eorzea from Primals and other threats, while Alisaie would end up joining some time later. Though Alphinaud had issues with pride and arrogance, after the attacks on the Scions and betrayal at the hands of the Crystal Braves, he had his world turned upside-down. His adventures in the cold lands of Ishgard proved to open his mind and gain a sense of humility as he traveled with his soon-to-be best friends Estinien Wyrmblood and the Warrior of Light. Alphinaud begins his journey as the beginner class Arcanist, before upgrading into the Academician job (itself a version of Scholar) during his travels in Ishgard. Later when Alphinaud and the Scions visit his family home in Sharlayan he changes his job to Sage when he’s given his father’s old Sage weaponry as a gift from his mother.

General Information[]

Entrance[]

Alphinaud will be seen standing on the stage writing in his grimoire with a fancy quill. With a flourish, Alphinaud will finish his script as his Moonstone Carbuncle is summoned to the battlefield alongside him.

Kirby Hat[]

Kirby will have Alphinaud’s white hair, including the ponytail, atop his head.

Taunts[]

Up Taunt: Alphinaud will gain a look of realization as he raises a finger in the air and a golden exclamation point appears above his head. Eureka!

Down Taunt: Alphinaud will become surrounded in an aetherial aura as he throws his arms back and hovers slightly above the stage to psyche himself up into thinking he’s just gotten a Power Up.

Side Taunt: Alphinaud will strike the Battle Stance of a Scholar, which is to say he’ll open up his grimoire and flip through its pages a few times before finding what he wants, smirking, and closing the book ready to resume fighting.

Victory Poses[]

  1. Moonstone Carbuncle will jump up and give Alphinaud a High Five with its paw as Alphinaud lightly chuckles.
  2. Alphinaud will open up his grimoire and excitedly write in it with the details of his Victory before snapping the book shut and giving a faint grin towards the screen. Meanwhile, Moonstone Carbuncle will be running around Alphinaud’s feet.
  3. Alphinaud will drink a bit of Tea from a small cup as he watches Moonstone Carbuncle play with a ball of yarn.

Moveset[]

Standard Special[]

Ruin: Alphinaud will bring his arm close to his chest before holding it out forwards as a small orb made of swirling black & white energy fires forward at a medium page. This attack is not chargeable by any means and if it hits nothing after traveling half of Final Destination then it will fade away into nothingness. However if Ruin does hit a target it will expand slightly into an aoe to try and damage other targets that were next to the initial target.

If Alphinaud has used his Extra Skill to have Moonstone Carbuncle stay in a specific spot, then this attack will turn into Moonstone Ruin. As Moonstone Ruin this attack will now originate from Moonstone Carbuncle instead of Alphinaud, regardless of wherever the two are. As Moonstone Ruin this attack is slightly stronger and faster. The drawback however is that Moonstone Carbuncle is essentially a stationary turret in this form and Alphinaud is unable to use the move himself as he moves around the stage unless he uses his Extra Skill again to order Moonstone Carbuncle to follow at his side.

Side Special[]

Energy Drain / Fester: This special move starts out as being Energy Drain which acts as a command grab. When used, Alphinaud will place his palm against the chest of a fighter next to him (or wherever in cases like Piranha Plant or Klinklang). A flash of light will occur as the fighter takes a small amount of damage and knockback. Alphinaud will then heal that same amount of damage. Following this, the target of Energy Drain will be afflicted by an invisible status effect and this special move will change to Fester.

When Fester is used that same opponent that Alphinaud previously struck will be attacked once no matter where Alphinaud and his opponent happen to me. Even if one of them is about to fall to their death! The damage is considerably greater than Energy Drain’s, but Fester inflicts no knockback. Fester can be used twice before this attack reverts back to Energy Drain and if 20 seconds pass before both Festers are used then the attack will revert back to Energy Drain automatically. Fester will also revert back to Energy Drain if either Alphinaud or his opponent have been KO’d.

Up Special[]

Fae's Embrace: The two faeries from the Scholar job, Eos and Selene, will appear behind Alphinaud and grab him by the collar. The faeries will use their magical gifts to lift Alphinaud up through the air a fair distance before the strain of carrying him becomes too much and they drop him. All the while Alphinaud has a mortified look on his face as if his parents just caught him doing something unmentionable. While Alphinaud may attack out of this special, it will cause the special to immediately end and after the attack is over Alphinaud will enter a state of free fall. Similarly, Alphinaud will free fall if he gets attacked out of the animation as well.

Down Special[]

Radiant Aegis: Alphinaud will utter a command to his Moonstone Carbuncle and have it create a protective shield around it. If Moonstone Carbuncle is at Alphinaud’s side then the shield will cover Alphinaud as well. Otherwise, the shield will only protect Moonstone Carbuncle. This shield will fully surround Moonstone Carbuncle or Alphinaud to protect them from attacks for a brief second. If the shield is struck, then damage up to 20% will be negated and Alphinaud will heal that same amount, though again the healing is only up to 20%. If an attack strikes the barrier dealing more than 20% damage then the shield will only block 20% of the damage, not heal, and then the remaining damage will be inflicted on its target.

Final Smash[]

Pneuma: When this Final Smash is activated, Alphinaud will throw back his arms as his Sage weaponry, a modified version of the Hagneia nouliths, will fly out from behind him and set out in a square formation around him. The nouliths will spark with energy as Alphinaud floats slightly in the air before he holds his arm out forwards and channels enough aether into the nouliths to use the skill Pneuma. The nouliths will fire out thin lasers which converge on a central point just in front of Alphinaud before combining into a much larger laser that flies all the way across the screen. This laser comes out quick and his highly damaging, but unlike some other laser-based Final Smashes it doesn’t hang around. It fires, it travels, and then its gone. It’ll only do one hit per opponent unless they somehow get immediately juggled back into it from a cave of life situation. Once the laser has fully dissipated Alphinaud’s nouliths will disappear as Alphinaud opens up his grimoire again and summons Moonstone Carbuncle back to his side.

Extra Skill[]

Heel/Stay Carbuncle: With a simple verbal command of “Heel” or “Stay”, Moonstone Carbuncle will follow Alphinaud’s commands! Moonstone Carbuncle starts out each match, and after each KO, in its “Heel” state as it follows Alphinaud in synch moving around the stage. While Moonstone Carbuncle is following Alphinaud it will join him in some of his standard attack with its own animations for normals, smashes, and aerial attacks. Moonstone Carbuncle however doesn’t have its own hitbox for these attacks however, it just ends up giving a small boost to the damage that Alphinaud inflicts.

By pressing this Extra Skill, Alphinaud can command Moonstone Carbuncle to “Stay”. This will cause Moonstone Carbuncle to stop following Alphinaud and stay in place facing the direction it was when the command was executed. While its Staying, Moonstone Carbuncle is capable of making a basic normal attack whenever Alphinaud hits the attack button however the output from the attack is weak. Additionally, when Alphinaud uses his Standard Special, Ruin, the attack will originate from Moonstone Carbuncle instead of from Alphinaud and will be both faster and stronger than when Alphinaud uses it. While Moonstone Carbuncle is staying in place, it can be attacked and destroyed. Moonstone Carbuncle has about 50 hit points and if it gets KO’d it will respawn at Alphinaud’s side after 10 seconds in a 1v1 with that time decreasing based on the amount of opponents that Alphinaud has. Moonstone Carbuncle will also take a reduced amount of knockback from attacks. This does mean that Moonstone Carbuncle can be moved from its initial Stay location and can even be knocked off the stage entirely.

By pressing this Extra Skill again, Alphinaud can command Moonstone Carbuncle to return to his side with “Heel”. This will cause Moonstone Carbuncle to disappear from its current location and after a couple moments, reappear at Alphinaud’s side. Alphinaud is unable to command Moonstone Carbuncle to Heel if it is currently being attacked.
