Character Info[]
While most Ninetales are Fire-type Pokemon, Ninetales from the Alola region are actually Ice/Fairy-type. According to legend, when humans came to the Alola region and brought their Vulpixes and Ninetales with them, the fiery foxes ran off and decided to settle in the mountains to be away from everyone. Over time these Pokemon adapted to living in the cold terrain and their typing and fur changed to match. Many years later Ninetales became regarded as sacred messengers of the gods due to the Alolans belief that Mount Lanakila was holy ground.
General Information[]
Entrance[]
An Ultra Ball is tossed onto the stage from the background which Alolan Ninetales emerges before stretching and preparing for battle.
Kirby Hat[]
Kirby will wear a skintight cap designed to look like the upper half of Alolan Ninetales’ head.
Taunts[]
Up Taunt: Alolan Ninetales will playfully spin in place for a couple moments as it chases its tails.
Down Taunt: Alolan Ninetales will shudder for a moment as snow falls off of its body and falls down to the ground.
Side Taunt: Alolan Ninetales will lean forwards in a battle pose as it flares out its tails to warn off opponents.
Victory Poses[]
- An Alolan Vulpix will pad up to Alolan Ninetales leading to Alolan Ninetales leaning its head down to nuzzle against the Alolan Vulpix. The two Pokemon then look up into the sky to admire the Aurora Borealis together.
- The ground will be covered in a thick layer of snow as more snow continues to fall down from the sky. Suddenly Alolan Ninetales will jump and burst out of the snow with a playful look as it shakes off a bunch of snow from its body.
- Alolan Ninetales will balance a snowball on the tip of its nose, not unlike a seal with a beach ball. After a couple seconds Alolan Ninetales will toss the snowball up in the air before facing the camera, tilting its head slightly, and yipping at the screen.
Moveset[]
Standard Special[]
Ice Beam: Alolan Ninetales will lean its head forwards as icy energy begins to form in front of its mouth. If this move is used uncharged then Alolan Ninetales will fire out a thin beam of ice that travels a short distance. However by holding down the special button this move can be charged up to three different levels. Each level of charge will increase the size, damage, and distance of the ice beam with the final charge resulting in a thick beam of ice that quickly travels across the full screen of all but the largest of stages before petering out. Additionally, at maximum charge this attack has a high chance of freezing an opponent.
Side Special[]
Icy Wind: Alolan Ninetales will breathe out a medium-sized cloud of frozen mist which will slowly travel forwards across the screen. Though this cloud moves slowly, it will hang around on the stage for a comparatively long amount of time when compared to other projectile attacks allowing a fighter to try and combo their foe and knock them into the cloud. This cloud deals a small amount of damage, but has a medium chance to freeze opponents.
Up Special[]
Triple Axel: Alolan Ninetales will leap up into the air above it at a diagonal angle before pivoting and jumping back the other direction in another diagonally direction rising further up, before pivoting once more and making a final jump in a diagonally upwards direction. Despite the seeming horizontal distance, these jumps are really just making Alolan Ninetales quickly rise up into the air. As Alolan Ninetales is leaping up each of its jumps, if it makes contact with an opponent it will drag them up to the point where the next jump would take place where they will be forcefully kicked away from Alolan Ninetales. Each of these jumps will deal more damage than the last as Alolan Ninetales kicks away whoever was near them.
Down Special[]
Icicle Spear: Pressing the special button will cause a singular thin icicle to fall down from high above and crash down on Alolan Ninetales. By charging up this move additional icicles will appear in the air above Alolan Ninetales until up to five have been gathered. Once the final icicle has formed, or whenever the special button is let go, all of the icicles will quickly fall down on top of Alolan Ninetales, one after the other. Like Pikachu’s Thunder, these icicles will not harm Alolan Ninetales and each one will break on contact with either an opposing fighter or some other obstacle. These icicles can be broken and destroyed while they are still being summoned and if this occurs then they can’t be reformed in the same use of this special. If a fighter runs into the icicles as they are hanging up in the air they will take a small amount of damage.
Final Smash[]
Flash Freeze: A sheet of ice will quickly freeze over the entire screen as if everything and everyone on it was immediately frozen in a solid chunk of ice. Following this, Alolan Ninetales will be heard howling as the ice shatters into shards as all of Alolan Ninetales’ opponents immediately take damage from this sheer cold and are sent flying away. The closer an opponent is to Alolan Ninetales when this Final Smash gets activated, the more damage and knockback they will receive.
Extra Skill[]
Snowscape: Alolan Ninetales will shake in place as it disburses snow from its body creating a small circular field around it of lowered temperature and snowfall. Effectively, this creates a medium-sized aoe around Alolan Ninetales’ body of frozen air that damages opponents when they make contact or pass through it. While Alolan Ninetales can indefinitely hold the input down and be constantly using this attack, the aoe will shrink over time until its just barely surrounding Alolan Ninetales’ body. Opponents do not receive any knockback from this attack and will instead just be constantly damaged from the snow as long as they are in the attack’s radius.
