Mode of Assistance[]
Upon summoning Alex, she’ll land on the stage and survey her surroundings with a worried expression. After a moment she’ll clutch at her head with both hands; at this point, one of a dozen effects will randomly occur:
- The camera will continuously tilt at an angle, becoming increasingly slanted and jittery over time.
- Tiny bugs will start crawling across the screen.
- A volume bar will appear overlaid on the bottom of the screen, slowly lowering the volume level and eventually muting the battle completely.
- The screen will go black, as if the TV had shut off.
- Fighters will slowly begin to sink into the stage, losing their ability to jump (only applies when standing on hard platforms).
- The screen will black out and suddenly switch to the options menu, autonomously selecting the Erase Data option. The game will appear to have suddenly erased all game data. - The game will halt and appear to bring up the Switch controller menu, making it appear that all controllers have disconnected.
- The game will appear to freeze and the screen will display a ‘the software was closed because an error occurred’ message.
- Alex’s disembodied head will approach the screen, slowly spinning in place as a voice recites a passage from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
- The game will black out, appearing to reset and boot up at the introduction movie (“colours weave into a spire of flame…”).
- The game will appear to pause and move automatically to select ‘Quit Game’, seemingly bringing players to the ‘No Contest’ screen.
- If playing a 1-on-1 battle, the opponent of whoever summoned Alex will spontaneously explode and the game will end. The victory sequence will play, displaying the results screen as if the player who summoned Alex had won.
After a few seconds, the screen will flash and clear the resulting effect, causing Alex to scream “This… can’t… be… happening!” before finally vanishing. These effects are based on the original game’s Sanity Meter, where the lower a character’s sanity the most likely the player was to experience them.
